I really like the fixed screen... these things are all design decisions. Fixed screen == simpler body.
That's cool, I'll keep an eye out for the magazine!

Hey everyone
I hope you are all doing well. Mods, please delete this if this is not allowed here. I recently had the chance to review the Pentax K-3 III after Ricoh sent me a review copy. It certainly makes me miss my Pentax gear. I have a feeling I'll be back soon ;). Also, I will soon have the new 16-50mm f/2.8 in for review. I'm looking forward to testing, reviewing, and sharing my thoughts on it. I hope you all have a great day.
All the best,
Brett

Probably the take home message is not to use AF-C for static scenes -- either with back button AF or shutter release AF. Better to use AF-S and choose your auto focus point.

Maybe, just use a single center point, aim it at what you want, with AFC BBF and press the shutter when you want. It's not rocket surgery .

Pretty sure the issue with Kobie’s test case is what was pointed out above: this is not an AF.C subject. I find that my results using AF.C on static subjects are really bad, and so if I’m set up for shooting action, my smart function dial is 100% giving me a way to toggle between AF.S and one of my two AF.C setups. Then if I catch something static that I want to capture, I will quickly switch over to AF.S since AF.C definitely seems to be looking for anything that it can call motion as part of its way to locate a subject.

What you are saying is that you are letting the camera chose the focus point, is that correct? Why ever use that feature?

Eaxatly this was my question in the parallel topic "AF.C Auto weirdness when using back-button AF?"
Who uses full Auto when he defently know what to focus...

AF-C is made for moving subjects.
I am 100% certain that, if that sign started moving, both the shutter button and back button AF would continuously track the moving subject.
When you select the full auto focus area, you're letting the camera decide what to focus on - and being in AF-C (camera thinks the subject will be moving), it probably looked for motion and may have picked up the leafs rustling in the background...

Hello,
my name is Dusan From Slovenia. I have been using the Pentax DSLR cameras since 2006.
Started with D20, continued with K-3 and now I have new K-3lll. I use only orig. Pentax lenses (6pcs).
As I am a wheelchair user with disability in my hands and fingers due the spinal injuries in the year 1969 I would like to know how to set my camera to see the AF points in viewfinder more clear like I used to see via K-3 viewfinder?
Please help me. Any advise with regards this matter will be more than helpful.
Best regards,
Dusan

I never touch printed manuals , wasted paper and resources.
It is so much easier to search PDF's for a quick answer.
I believe that all cameras sold in Australia do have printed manuals.

I also found the review to be reasonably objective concerning the various aspects of the camera. It touched on the strengths and weaknesses, although I thought it should have emphasized the camera's excellent overall user experience. Notably, the reviewer used three different Pentax lenses, and seems to have shot subjects in varied settings.
Perhaps I didn't understand your point, but I'm not sure that technology advancements are found only in mirrorless cameras. I guess it depends on how we define 'technology'.
I think innovation can be found in various areas. Ricoh Imaging put a lot of effort in several aspects of the K-3 Mark III, including the new pentaprism. Their development team fine-tuned the ergonomics of the new camera, to the point that its ergonomics are exceptional. They also developed key advances in the mirror control system, the shutter system, and the viewfinder optics.
On the other hand, some brands that are touted for their technology are inferior in ergonomics and the user experience. For example, the PCMag review states that "The X-T4's ergonomics are sublime..." I guess that's a possible perspective, but only if one avoids larger lenses. And Sony is not well-known for their great ergonomics, but folks seem to love Sony's 'tech'.
Each brand, ILC type, and model has strengths and weaknesses.

As a K3III owner I have little reason to read any of these reviews. This seams to be a bit of a common feeling based on other comments. It’s not my job to sell camera gear but in my opinion the K3III is a camera that stands on its own as a fantastic photography tool. Comparing it to a mirrorless camera is pointless it is unabashedly something different.
I expect that Ricoh will keep this model in the lineup while multiple iterations of other manufacturers cameras will come and go and I am fine with that.

A few years ago, minor imperfections such as these used to really bug me. I'd obsess over a "ding" in the body of my guitar, a shiny spot on the trackpad of my laptop, a chip of paint off my camera or a mark on the coating of my lens. Now, I accept that they're simply honest evidence of enjoyment; they prove that the item has been used as intended, rather than sitting unloved on a shelf or in a bag. Each ding, rub, chip or mark is part of the object's unique history, identity and character - to be looked upon fondly; perhaps even with pride! This is why antique dealers and collectors typically prefer items with some honest wear and tear :)
Congratulations - that K-3III is now officially yours, and there's none other quite like it :D

If pentax video was good, we could have got a Pentax for my school... but instead we had to sink for a t2i and tamron 17-50 2.8. I don't really enjoy using it, but the video quality is what matters, so... less money for pentax.

Ovidiu, perhaps I wasn't clear, perhaps it's the translation back and forth to/from a foreign language: it's Ken Rockwell who did the insulting (something about people interested in the K-1 having mental issues). He is "that sorry excuse for a clown".
I understand you're actually talking about the AF noise, but please be specific about this because Klown Rockwell said many things; and people would conclude that you're generally (i.e. not about this specific point) in agreement with him.
Oh, one such claims is that 6D is (in his mind) superior to the K-1... and that pigs can fly.

Lots of discussion and much ado about nothing really. No? Are we that insecure??
I think this Rockwell guy knows that we are rather a sensitive bunch. He is getting a good laugh I imagine at our expense. I say we close out the thread.

Hey,
a picture taken with Pentax K-3 II and Pentax 100 mm Macro F2.8 WR. With this combination I am very satisfied, the only issue I have is with Sigma 17-50 F2.8 which has small problems with autofocus at longer distances it seems, problems which I didn't encounter on the K-5 II body.
