New to DSLR looking at K-50

let me offer one other option. spend some more money and get the k5-iis at b and h for 496 body only and then get the 18-135. see what they will give u as a combo on those two. more money but more camera something u can grow into. look at the reviews on the k5-iis on amazon and b and h. people think very highly of that camera. that will be a keeper until u are ready eventually to buy the top of the line that pentax offers. along with the 18-135 the 50 mm f 1.8 is reasonable and a very nice lens .u get those two lenses and the k5-iis and u have a real machine there. just some thoughts.

hi everyone

wanted to ask your experiences here, i love macro photography. i am looking at the sigma 17 70
and the pentax 35mm macro. has anyone done macro with both. which do u like better
17 70 is obviously more versatile but the quality of the macro is key to me. i would buy the 35mm if
its a better macro and add the 18 135 lens at a later date for versatility . just looking for thoughts
thanks for the help. and btw very happy my dslr choice was a k 50 bought about 7 months ago

its a great camera. i have had mine since july i love it . a few thoughts buy the book understanding exposure by bryan peterson. and when u are taking your shots let your first shots be in auto mode. then u will see what settings the camera is using on your picks. then when u shift to Av Tv TAv and m mode u will have an idea of the general area your shutter speed aperature and iso sb in and can vary them from there . enjoy !!

first thought is what is the shutter speed no. sounds like its too slow for what she is doing. have here shoot in shutter priority mode and see if that correct the problem

a friend of mine recently took a shot at the beach of kids sandals and a toy. with a nikon p and s. it was both technically great
and really grabbed me. so i would say a great photo is both technically good but more importantly pulls u in and makes u feel

in red of course.. i love it. had a slr a long long time ago over 30 years ago but eventually stopped using it. did a lot of research before buying . it was between the d5200 and the k50 . the weather resistance sold me plus the excellent resource of this forum. oh we are going to have some fun with this bad boy. i will be taking pics when its snowing outside for sure nature photography interests me anyway. one thing u see right away is how solid the body is glad i went with pentax

i believe photography is just as much about the shooter , if not more so, as the equipment. i was watching a film about dorothea lange , who was born in 1895 , and she did a lot of shooting in the depression and world war 11. obviously here equipment was all black and white at that time and nowhere near the level of what it is today. yet she was a great photographer. she had 3 things i think we need to be a great photographer, curiousity, courage and compassion. the three ccc's. so i will not get lost in the equipment , of course we all want nice equipment, but photography, for me at least, goes a lot deeper than the camera itself. it goes into the soul of the shooter . and i will never forget that.
