IC 1396 the elephant's truck nebula.
My make shift cooler cooled the sensor down almost 20F below ambient so all in all not too bad. Polar alignment of the mount was a little off though.
13 x 900" exposures at ISO 400 through Astrodon 6nm H-a filter
Orion F5 120mm achro scope on NEQ6 Pro mount

Recently I've been re-editing some of my older photos and the photo above was one of my favourites from a trip to Budapest, Hungary, 2 years ago. A bit of editing goes a long way I think.
The above is Gellert Hill, also in Budapest. Perhaps I went too far with the editing this time and it's a bit over the top! But I still like the added drama. :)

Here is a car fire on the side of Highway 24, on the way back from Oakland, CA
My friend's sister actually gets credit for this, but she didn't know how to operate my camera...one of the greatest accidental photos I've seen.

These are from the 18-55 DAL; nice little lens capable of some very nice results. Downsides (at least with my copy) are that it's prone to a lot of flare with the sun just inside or outside the edges of the frame, and colors and detail can be muddied in high contrast light without careful attention to technique.
And a 100% crop of the above image (hand held): |

Woke up this morning to a circular rainbow (the newspapers tell me it's actually called a 'sun halo') around the sun. Here's what it looked like from the street outside my house. K200D; 18-55/f3.5-5.6 II |

Taken last night with my K-7 and DA 18-55 ED
20 second exposure, f7.1, 200 iso. A view to the north.
The lightning strikes then became my target but after 30 minutes, this was in fact the best I could do last night.

lol Yay my first award! It's the discarded shell of a cicada. I guess you wouldn't see many in NY!
Oh I should add, that these things were great when I was a kid. My friends and I would stick them onto our shirts and show people and gross them out. A merry time was had by all lol.

It was clouded here during the eclipse, but I did get a good image of the Moon Monday night.
I used my 8" SCT @ F/6.3 and the K-5 IIs 1/750 second @ ISO 160. Post processed in PS to enhance contrast and detail. I'm generally pleased with it. The 30 year old optic did well. Moon 10-6-14 by Nightfly Photographic, on Flickr

That's one of the reason's why they're called an "ex"... ;) I've never understood the whole "real..." attitude. We grew up without a lot of money, so we wore cheap shoes like Traxxx (with the three nasty velcro strips), and some dude would look at my shoes, laugh, and then say something stupid like, "Real runners where Nike's". Then I would whip his tail in a race, and he would just come up with something else to doubt me about. Results are where it's at. If you get pictures that make you happy, regardless of the "method", sounds to me like you're winning the race.
Do what makes you happy. The best part that we tend to forget during the "ex" conversion is that their opinions aren't supposed to carry the same gravity as they once did. Impact is only what we allow it to be. Easier said than done, but take it from somebody that's been married three times. All the crap that comes along with a split is supposed to be equalized by one bright, shiny thing -- you get to call your own shots again, and not have to worry about how they impact the other person.
If you want to strap a bunch of old manual glass on a new camera body -- have at it. If you want to play with your film era stuff -- get to it. If you want to leave the bathroom door open when you use the can -- make it happen. Looking forward to seeing some posted pictures in the near future :)

I got the 18-55 WR recently to pair up with my K200D on rainy days. I've found it to be a great option for the money. Here are some shots I took on a rainy day last week |

Some photos taken with the kit lenses:
DA-L 18-55
DA 18-55:
Looking at (my) photos taken witht he kit lenses makes me think I should spend more money (and time) on getting good photo opportunities and less on lenses because aside from being slow the kit lenses are really very good, especially combined with the in camera distortion correction.
