The K20D was my first DSLR, and I used it a lot from 2009 until I purchased a K-5 in 2012. Coming from film cameras and a 2 megapixel Canon Powershot the K20D was a revelation, I learned a lot from taking photographs with this great Pentax. I now use the K-5 and K-5iis as my main DSLRs but somehow I miss the colors and image quality of low ISO images (100-400 ISO) from the K20D. In fact I unpacked the K20D from the box where it is stored and charged the battery for the first time in many many years, planning to use it in the near future. Here are some old shots from my K20D:

Thanks. One thing about the TC with the DA* 300. Image quality is really special if you can get close enough to your subject to avoid serious cropping.

Dust on the rear element or front element of your lens.
Try taking pictures of a uniform background at small aperture.

Too many people still believe that depth of field varies according to the focal length. It is false! Period.
Depth of field varies according to enlargement (and according to aperture value, and circle of confusion, the latter being fonction of the sensor dimensions).

At a given enlargement, e.g., 1:1, you will get the same DOF with a 24mm, with a 50mm, with a 100mm, with a 180mm, etc.

24mm

50mm

105mm

200mm

300mm

Same enlargement, same DOF, different bokeh.

However, as the bokeh and the geometric distorsion will vary according to the focal length, a lens between 50mm and 100mm will generally be the best choice if you use an aps-c sensor.

What he's describing could be caused by a number of things that don't indicate a fault... for example, having lens corrections and other JPEG-related settings enabled; using an SD card with poor performance; two-second shutter delay etc. I would advise him to reset the camera and insert a recent, known-good SD card with decent performance; turn off all corrections from the menus; select JPEG as the file type; and see how it goes from there...

Today we got a max temperature of -20° C in southern Québec.
"C'était pas chaud pour la pompe à l'eau" we say around here...
(Free translation, even if that doesn't make sense = "it was cold as hell" ❄️❄️❄️ )

This old barn is barely visible through the overgrowth of trees and vines. But it made a nice filter for the fog and sun.

I worked at a suburban camera store that was selling a lot of Pentax camera's and we were competing with a large discount electrical dealer and a large photographic chain store in the area .We couldn't compete selling Canon and Sony on price , but Pentax were available through traditional camera stores and it was a game changer for us and the Australian distributor as the other dealers were not interested in stocking Pentax .Using a camera and taking pictures can sometimes involve a lot of different factors .The best camera is the one that fits your needs ,budget or some of the things that I chose with the K-3 the SR ,smaller metal lenses etc .I borrowed a K-3 with 18-135 lens for the weekend and didn't want to part with it , sold my Nikon D750 kit and bought some more lenses and a flash for the K-3 .Had a full frame camera sold it for an APSC ? and was using a Canon 5D mk11 as a work camera as well as a Leica S2 and I own a Pentax K-3 - sometimes things aren't always obvious at first .Still love the camera but always invest in the best glass you can afford - my motto .Good luck !

If you do, make sure it's the Elite edition. Try ViewPoint as well for your wide angle lens. And feel free to PM me if you'd like some presets.

Here are some photos taken on a light aircraft flight in the Tasmanian wilderness. (Some distortion and reflections from the perspex windows of the aircraft are visible.) The versatility of the 18-135 and its good resolution, contrast and colours make it a good option for flights and boat trips.

Head shot of caterpillar seen by my porch when starting my afternoon dog walk. All my gear was in a cabinet less than 10 away. I shot a lot of frames sometimes without the Raynox 150 but I’m sure this is a with.

Had Pentax 360 II on the hotshoe with a Magmod MagSphere as a diffuser.
