pjv; great post! I so enjoyed Rupert on the forums, his big heart shined thru each & every post. I do agree, that waiting for a specific date to give this award, kind of takes the "luster" out of it.

That's an amazing shot, considering it was from a boat with the motor vibrating! Very well done! If it was mine, it would be framed & hung on a wall!

Just took this sunrise this morning with my K10D and the 18-55WR. I'm very pleased with this lens!

There was absolutely no pp, straight out of camera, the colors are the best I've had with camera equipment.

I disagree with your post. I think it's nice to show appreciation to someone that consistently helps others, remains respectful, and shows appreciation for other members.

On another site, where I'm a moderator, they give the Star award once a year to a member that is all of the above. It is "worn" proudly in their sig., if they wish. Giving an award to one person does not mean all others are not "worthy"; rather may encourage them to be more helpful on the threads.

Does this mean the photo contests are also seen in a negative way?

On any site, after one is a member for awhile, you learn whose posts attract you, by their attitude, knowledge, or simply support of other members; and read them first. Every site has members that go that "extra mile".

So, please; let's keep the contest going!

So; Yes!

A moderator that does that, on forums such as this one, would not last very long. If there's a conflict of interest of a moderator participating in a thread, then they leave the moderating to the rest of the team.

I don't know why you are so concerned about moderating. I can tell you, without moderating; this site, and many others would simply disolve into complete chaos.

As Big Mack said, the moderating/administration staffs are volunteer! No pay, whatsoever; simply that we wish to keep the sites as it should be, friendly, and welcoming to all members.

I did not create this situation. I'm referring to Pentax Forums, that all of us help to create a friendly atmosphere.

I'm not a moderator here, but on another site, and yes; same as here; moderators are members also, and participate as such.

I've been a Moderator on another forum since 2005. I can assure you (OP) that a "little emotional agitation" is not good for the forums, rather is a turn off for the majority of the membership; not to mention the additional work on the staff moderating it. Many of the members on my other site have said repeatedly, that if someone wants this type of action on the site; that there are many other sites that offer this.

This forum is a laid back, friendly place for us to engage in our love of photography. We gather many "friendships" thru these forums, that are indeed very gratifying. If this changed, and "emotional agitation" started creeping into the forums, it would no longer be our haven of enjoyment.

Why i use my camera less and less

One other thing that keeps my interest up. Due to medical problems, I've had little chance to use my equipment. This was so depressing, as I finally had the perfect kit (for me), and it sat there, looking as forlorn as I did. Now that I'm able to take a few photos, now; doesn't matter to me if it's a beautiful deer, sunset, birds, or even just a blade of grass; it's so fulfilling to have that camera in my hands once again.

We don't miss what we have, until we don't have it.

Regardless of how many times I've seen a subject, the thrill of getting a photo of it, still remains. Each photo of the very same subject will be different, due to lighting, etc. If I felt no need to take photos, then why hang onto all my equipment that gives me so much joy?

Agreed! Getting "legal" advice or medical advice on the internet is very foolish.

That was your first mistake; if you had time to ride it, you had time to license it.

I'm very sorry for all your troubles with this; but something other than what you've told us, caused the jail time. Just hope you can get it sorted out; please keep us updated.

This is indeed such sad news. Steve was what this forum was all about; sharing knowledge, kindness, and above all respect to all. I always clicked on his posts because I knew I'd acquire more knowledge from him.

Extending comfort to Steve's family.

Rest in Peace Steve, you will always be missed on this forum.

Because of a back injury; I cannot use my heavy lenses at this time. I recently got the 55-300 PLM and the 1.4 TC. I'm more than pleased with this combo!

This shot was thru a window @300 with the TC, handheld.

I think there could be many reasons. I for one, have dropped my activity due to physical health problems, and not taking hardly any photos. I certainly hope this changes for me soon, and my activity here will pickup once again.

I'm very fortunate to live under very dark skies! Because of that, I have an observatory with a slide-off motorized roof, housing a 16" dobson telescope. The sky is so full of stars, in the beginning it was difficult to make out the different constellations, and the Milky Way is astonishing!

Absolutely loving the light weight of my new 55-300 PLM with the Pentax 1.4TC. This was caught with my KP. Absolutely no post processing, the vivid colors were outstanding!
