Last July-August I went to Malawi and Zambia. It was my first real Africa experience. I have been to Morocco before, but that is something totally different. I always write reports to share my experiences, but most of all to show my photography. Last year I wrote a topic about my trip to Borneo and the gear and techniques I used. Now I just want to show you my photography and I hope I can inspire you in a way. The first part of my reports is about a very interesting location. It is about Mount Mulanje. This massif looks like a lonely mountain. A mountain like this is home to many special animals that live nowhere else on earth. This mountain is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been.
My next episodes will be about Zomba Plateau, Liwonde NP, Cape McClear, Ntchisi, and South Luangwa (Zambia). So there will also be reports about the more usual stuff from Africa. ;) I will add those reports later to this topic. :)
You can read the report about Mulanje here: Malawi 2015 Part I: The Majestic Mount Mulanje | RONALD ZIMMERMAN WILDLIFE & NATURE PHOTOGRAPHY - All images © 2008-2015 Ronald Zimmerman

Your lens goes to 50, his goes to 300. Your camera is a '3', but his is a '70'.
You loose by a 317 point margin.

If the mirror won't come down after you power cycle the camera and try to go in and out of live view, a repair will most likely be needed. It's good that you're still covered under warranty! With the dropping prices of the K-50 perhaps you could pick up a new one then sell your old one once it gets fixed?

I just got the K-50 and the 18-135mm was definitely the right choice. There was a major problem with getting this bundle... It led to getting a K-3 bundle... YMMV. LOL

Hey everyone, I just wanted to share an app that I have found really useful to keep track of the data for each shot I take with my film cameras. This way I can look back at the settings I used, lens, lighting, etc. Its called Memento Database, I use it on Android but I am pretty sure its at least also available for iOS and maybe windows phone. It let's you create custom databases with whatever fields you want. There's a ton of templates out there, but I couldn't find any for photography so I made my own. If anyone else thinks this will be useful, I van send them a copy of my template. Here's some screenshots showing how to input the data, and what it looks like when its collected. I hope someone else finds this useful too :-) |

You could also consider selling the 16-45 for the 18-50 DC WR collapsible lens if you are worried about price. It's around $300 now, but should be $250 on the next sale, or if someone is selling the kit lens version - it should be below $200.
I'm waiting for one to pop up in the marketplace.

The one that comes with the 1.4x converter has an indent where the locking pin goes... although to purchase the 1.4x converter just for the body cap is expensive. But then you get a free 1.4x converter as well!!!

Once he'd said 'well, we shoot with what we can', I suspect I might have replied 'that's very true. But you've still managed to get some good snaps. Well done.'

I've generally found the more 'professional' a person is the less likely they are to disparage anyone's gear. By that I mean someone with a low end Canon is often flashing the EOS neck strap and Canon camera bag and letting everyone know they are a "real photographer" because they have a Canon. But the "real photographer" with the D810 and plain neck strap and camera bag with gaffer's tape over the holes doesn't give a rodent's rear end what you shoot with as long as the results are good.
I sat in a seminar next to two people. One had a low end Canon, with an EOS badged Op/tech strap on the table and made sure to fiddle with it and make sure everyone saw the camera, strap and bag at every opportunity. Made quite a point of letting me know they "shot Canon" but it was easy to tell they had no clue what they were doing. On the other side was a quiet young lady with no camera, no bag and total focus on the lecture. To look at her you would think she was thinking about maybe learning photography someday. When asked to introduce herself turns out she was a photojournalist published in the New York Times and about a dozen other papers and journals. Guess which one did not care what camera I shot with?

For 400 dollars you could get a DA 35 2.4 plus a manual 28 2.8 and a 50 1.4! And still have some money left...

Ive been very blessed on the Pentax Forum since I joined about 18 months ago and would like to give back a bit to someone.
Have learned a huge amount about cameras , lenses , new products , and technical issues and challenges.....Thank YOU Pentaxian's !
I have a Ricoh Rikenon XR 50mm 2.0 "L" lens that I simply don't need. The glass is perfect , works perfect , and produces nice images. Its very very clean and nice looking....Its got a bit of paint flaking off the scale but that is common with this model and affects nothing. Front and rear caps are included.
It Does not have the dreaded Ricoh pin and also has no "A" setting.....strictly manual. Ricoh XR Rikenon 50mm f/2.0 Lens Reviews - Ricoh Lenses - Pentax Lens Review Database
Would like to give this away for free ! Not just as an addition to someone's "Collection" , or as an addition to someone's "Bucket of Primes" that has LBA.....But to someone who actually "needs" it and will appreciate it and use it ! Maybe a student , aspiring amateur , or maybe to someone who simply cant afford to buy one on their own at the moment ?
That's who I want to get it......all you have to do is ask.......Its yours for FREE..... and shipping is on me.....FREE !
I will make the decision who gets it as I want it to go to someone who NEEDS it....so ask away. It will be shipped Friday about noon and I will PM and post here.
Thanks everyone.....
:)
Here are a couple real quick PS pics of the lens.....The last picture (Soda Can and Samyang 14mm) was taken with this lens @ f4
