There's been one sitting on FB MPlace locally for awhile, priced pretty sharply (~175ish). Already have one.

No, we counted 22 aircraft in total, all Dash 8s apart from 6 ATRs. This line were only one's accessible from the perimeter fence. Nobody in the tower but I still didn't fancy climbing the fence.

Tata beach, Golden Bay. Tamron 17-50 first outing, happy. Siggie 17-70 (stabilised version) about to go, don't need both anymore.

That 70-210's a lovely lens. I picked one up awhile ago for next to nothing. They do suffer from delamination, mine's got a very small amount of in the extreme periphery, but it affects nothing.
Tack-sharp with nice contrast and colour, great companion lens to the 35-70 of the same era.

Bugger, I got those :)
Somebody passed up a buy-now of $30??? (wasn't me).
I'm still pretty happy with $68, the glass is unmarked and they posted to Nelson for $7. I gave my son my as-new K-r and wanted a 55-300 for him so the 18-55's a spare now.

Great suggestions, esp the numbered cards. Also good to have a heads up on the focus shift issue, I'll check for it. Lens was as new and a bargain, so I'm happy to spend some time and a little cash on it as some of the results have been great so far.

Newly purchased Tammy 17-50 appears to be front focussing on my K5 IIs. Have made up a focus-checking rig (as per 'Andy's Handy Focussing Checker'). REALLY dumb question -presume I'd set focus select to spot/middle focus point to test rather than evaluative? Or should I just check the camera's picking the center point when testing? TIA!

I had a K-x that did exactly this when the power ran low on the batteries. Fresh batteries it went away. Good quality rechargeables worth a try.

Hmm, I'll think on it. My Sigma came virtually unused attached to an equally new K-r off TradeMe for a song. I'm moving towards primes at the moment and just picked up a K5 SII off EBay so am re-thinking my current set-up. I love the K-S2 but there's something special about that K5 sensor, I loved the shots the K-01 produced but couldn't come to terms with the ergonomics, was constantly putting it up to my eye! The K5 series are extremely affordable now and the build quality is just sublime, it's a joy to hold.

Mine's the OS HSM version, rather than the 'Contemporary', although I've had the original 2.8-4.5 as well. The HSM focus is faster than the traditional screw-drive, but I'd be happy with either frankly. The OS version (mine) superseded the original, and was itself superseded by the current Contemporary version (vers. 3 as far as I an tell). It's a heavy bugger, due in part I suspect to the unnecessary in-lens stabilisation motor. I've tried it with the lens OS on, but it fights with the sensor OS and results are poor. For Astro -there's a post on this forum going back around 12 months or so from a member who took a nice astro shot with the lens at Lake Rotoiti (Nelson), 17mm @2.8, 30 secs on his K50. It's a shame you're not down this way, you could give it a run. These are more common in Aus it seems, search EBay.com.au, most Aussie sellers will happily post here, shipping typically Au$23.

There's a new Pentax 17-70 on TMe for $250 shipped from Oz, but I'm gun-shy re. the SDM motors, probably without good reason.

I currently have the Sigma 17-70 2.8-4. It's a great lens, performs well throughout, acceptably sharp wide-open at both ends. A caveat on the 16-45: it's widest at full extension so you can have issues with barrel shadow using the on-camera flash at wide settings.

These come up once in a blue moon. Developed as part of a top secret espionage program by Asahi Pentax under contract to the Japanese military.
Diguised to look like an ordinary pair of woman's shoes, they concealed dual 35mm film carriers and allowed stereoscopic imaging. A steal at the price.

Poll on the reasons for this.

"Important: as you can see on the photos, I used to have all the labels covered up to keep the camera anonymous while travelling."

And this was because...

They are, but that partic one wasn't in great shape -a dented pentaprism housing like it had is indicative of a hard life. My circa '70s MX still looks like new despite extensive use. The F2 50 I had didn't perform anywhere near as well as my 50 1.7 at comparable F-settings even when stopped right down, but could have been a poor example I guess?

Threw mine in the bag on a recent trip into French Pass & Durville. It's seldom the first lens I reach for but am slowly starting to appreciate it more. Softer than my belly wide-open it sharpens up stopped down a bit. If anybody's up our way the drive into French Pass is a worthy detour (just be prepared to spend the next week cleaning dust out of your vehicle).

Mad money. A sellers wildest dream surely. A beat-up K1K with a 1:2 50mm? I had that lens for as long as it took to sell it. It wasn't a stellar performer, even stopped down. I suspect you're right.
