K20D Sensor Problem?
Posted By debbie
Replies: 5

I had exactly the same problem with my K20d. I got it replaced, they said it was a faulty sensor. I also tried different SD cards.
It was only clearly visible on some photos but I could see them faintly by pixel peeping on almost all photos. If I remember it right it appeared more often if I used D-Range. (is it called that, can't remember)

I would not be too happy if I were you anyway and would definitely try to return it.

But if it doesīt show that much and often maybe it isnīt a big deal...

hope it works out for you!

thanks for replying!

Yes I will do a proper test, but just noticed it today and got curios.
And to images are from the same photo, just weird that the right corner looks like it suffers from motion blur and the left corner does not.

So, what do you think of this? The images are from the far left corner and the far right corner, 100% crops. There is probably some shake blur as well but this does not look good. If you look at the lamps the left one looks OK and the right one looks like crap.
It was taken at 135mm, 1/180s f4.5.
I have seen some softness in the right part of some other images too, but sometimes it looks good. I noticed this only with my new K5 and not with the older house i got.
But i assume it has to do with the lens. Any ideas?? Could it be a misaligned element??

M-mode lightmeter problems on K-5

Well, the K20d works the same way. I was certain it didnīt.
And I just have to say that I am still impressed of the IQ of the K20d. I am gonna miss it. Up to iso 400 its still really nice!! I just have to get used to the different noise pattern of the K5, when its there anyway :).

Now off to drink some wine!

M-mode lightmeter problems on K-5

I just got myself a K-5 and replaced my K20d.
One thing only, when I am using M-mode the light meter does not show anything at all. Not on the LCD or in the viewer. What am I missing? I am using a manual 50mm
pentax lens, and what I can see is the shutter speed and the green button works just fine but I am missing the good old light meter. It works for EV compensation though.

And by the way, its really a super nice camera!!

but here the camera underexposed, because of the low level of light. The light meter in the camera reached its limits. It still strives to get 18% grey, as the case is in the picture with auto exposure in ACR.
If you lower the exposure in PP you will get the same result as in lowering the exposure when shooting the picture.
The thing with getting the right exposure is to have as many possibilities as possible when you "develop" the picture.

eeh, try to take a shot with the cap on the lens with the same settings and see what shutter time the camera will use (at least with a k20 as you have)

(1 sec if you canīt wait for the answer)

:)

Illegal to print images which are not yours?

If you have a photo for sale and intend to keep the original, as in being able to reproduce it in an unlimited number, how much is one copy worth?
Why do you think prints (photos and graphical ones) are made in limited series?

Because it is otherwise worthless. This is how it works, art is also an economy and has the same rules applied to it as other economies.
Rarities are always more expensive for a reason. Its rare!

A low-res reproduction of a photo in an unlimited series, what kind of money did you miss?

well, I paid for PS and Color fx, which I am using mostly for other stuff. I was just curios if anybody has used the effect in Color fx and what the result was.
Well, I guess I will take a look at Alien Skin also if I am not pleased with the prints later on. Thanks for the tip!

I am probably gonna use it for a job I just got. An artpiece which is gonna be put up in a hospital, and I am gonna get quite a budget for it. :) So I am very happy at the moment!!

thanks everybody!

Ryan s: the scanned negative sounds interesting. It would be great if you had the time to dig it up! :)

Silver FX is a separate app, I only got Color FX at the moment. But as I said, it looks ok on screen...

Anyone got experience in this field?? I am using PS and Color Efex pro.
The result I get with Color FX looks ok on screen, but I havenīt tried to print them yet.
The photos will be printed on photopaper (not inkjet).

So, what do you use for adding filmgrain??

yes, its really a great program. But it is demands a lot of your computer. It easily gets sloooow. You need lots of RAM and one of the newer processors.

I would advice you to not let the three words have the main role in the picture.
Just do what you usually do and try to sneak in these words somewhere.

I just upgraded to Snow Leopard and it was a huge improvement for AP3. I run it on a MBP 2.4mhz core 2duo with only 2GB ram and it runs quite smooth.
But then again, I never found Aperture to be very snappy...

A silly answer, but a 50mm lens mounted on a apc-s is still a 50mm lens.

Aperture 2 Storage

yes, if you relocate the masters it will work the same way as having them in the library.
The only difference is that it is stored in another format, and you can choose folder and subfolder formats as you like. And you dont have to import anything.
But you can also use multiple libraries if you think that is a better solution. You just need to choose which one to work with when you start up.
Just make a search on apple.com in the support section under Aperture, search for multiple libraries or something like that and you should find several threads about the topic.

I am not shure I get the question, but...

Use the Relocate masters command to export your photos to the external HDD. That way you will still have the previews available when the external hdd is not connected. Your photos will not be stored in the library but will be referenced and stored in folders the way you choose to.

This is not back up, but you had a vault as well, right??
