There are a lot of Live Oaks around here, and I know some are old, but nothing like that. Amazing, really. The cradling branches must assure stability to the entire structure. There is a such beauty in the form that you have captured in your photographs. Thank you for posting these.

Point and Shoot Competition #189 - Figurative Symmetry
Posted By Jacquot

Each person who entered had one photo that I felt was a great response to the theme. Bart's swans in the diagonal symmetry, but each different, too, in orientation and detail; kwb's curve sign and the steam or smoke plume, just wonderful how two things so different could have that symmetrical conversation.

Then I found barondla's image of the books just stunning. The sameness and difference of the books themselves, one with white interior, the other with the clay and red colors, then the sameness of the curves, but with one up the other down and then the surroundings. Each is so similar, but at the same time so different in many ways and details. The tight focus really enhances it all. This is the winning photograph for December.

Many thanks to you all for the submissions, and Blackwing1's wife's photo, too--so funny. On to the New Year and a new competition that I'm sure will be great.

There are a couple of days left to make submissions. We have great entries so far, and hopefully more to come! Thank you all who have submitted!

I've been pretty swamped with dealing with holiday doings, caregiving and health issues for both of us--not critical, but ongoing and time consuming none the less.

Welcome to P&S Competition #189, the theme of this month is "Figurative Symmetry" which is a theme I know from another forum and always has interesting posts. The idea is to have symmetry but also not quite, or not really. It can be subtle or not so, maybe with the differences stronger but with that symmetry relation, or the other way around.

Rules are familiar (the same and different).

Rules:

1. Have fun with your entries, and come back often to view the competition.

2. Cameras:

No cameras with sensors larger than 1" (some exceptions below).
No large format or camera typically requiring a tripod to use.
No interchangeable lens cameras (some exceptions below).
No (D)SLRs or any camera weighing over 1kg.

Cameras permitted:
Mobile phones, tablets, APSC or smaller sensor pocketable digital cameras.
Pentax Q, Nikon 1, Ricoh GR, and any 110 film, 35mm point and shoots from the 1980s/90s (e.g. Pentax PC35AF etc.)

ANY CAMERA BRAND ALLOWED.

3. Entries will close after Thanksgiving on Sunday December 31 midnight PST.

4. Maximum image dimensions are 1300x900 (more-or-less) pixels.

5. List camera brand and model with entry for all to see, and exposure data would be nice.

6. No restrictions on when the entries were taken.

7. Contest winner determines the rules, selects theme, sets closing date and judges the next competition.

8. Enter up to three images, however you may change your entries as many times as you like up to the contest ending.

I posted three to show the idea. Be creative in interpreting this, and remember to have fun with it!

Just seeing this, awesome, thank you! This was a great subject for the competition. Those are lobster holding pens! Georgetown, Maine. Congrats to barondla and Bart as well.

And it is good to know you got a health clearance Blackwing1, and got home OK.

I'll get a new competition up tomorrow sometime.

This thread makes me want to get another copy of this lens for the KP. Mine departed on a K-01 a few years ago, which likely got some good use in its new home.

We have year-rounders here. It's always fun when two family groups start feuding over territory. Thankfully that is mostly during waking hours.

I'm around 25, with most for Pentax, but also a few Contax and Leica-M mount lenses. I need to update my list.

I've sold to KEH, and it is pretty seamless, if not the best price. I love the K1-II, but have a lot of Pentax glass, too. It is definitely capable. When you reference different systems, it becomes very subjective. For me the Pentax system offers a lot of flexibility. I do see a value in having a more compact digital camera to complement it, in my case a KP. I have the Fuji X100 and X100T, and use them some. I have taken them as travel cameras. The XPro3 is a great camera, but quite different in all respects to the Pentax--sensor, viewfinder, interface, etc., and you can adapt a lot of lenses to it. I've shot Pentax so long it is second nature for me, and there's a lot of value in that. I never really got on with the Fujis myself.

Congrats to Blackwing1. Great photograph of garden abundance! And thanks kwb for the call out to my photo. If I tell you, you might gag, lol. That's the ingredients for the family fruit cake, less the whiskey, but the fruit had already soaked for a day.

Good for you to get those captures! We get them regularly in the Bottle Brush tree, but like you said, they flutter the wings quite rapidly and do not stay put long at all. They are beautiful and big!
