Pentax K-x Display stopped functioning

After a year of normal use my display stopped working. For a while recharging the batteries would resolve the issue but only for a short while and now even with brand new replacement eneloops the display remains off. I have read all the posts I can find but thought I would check one more time if there is any new advice on the cause of this issue which does seem to have occured to a lot of people. Needless to say I have tried the LV button, repeated pressing of the Info button and all other button press combinations to no effect. I have considered trying a blind firmware update but there appears to be nobody out there who has successfully completed such a thing and so no evidence that it would help. So if anyone has any new advice on repair options I would love to hear from them.

Jersey_m I have the same issue. Did you get your camera repaired? If so did they say what the issue was and how much did it cost?

My camera is 4 years old and I am wondering if it is worth repairing - if I decide against can anyone advise as to the equivalent Pentax I should buy today?

The lcd is blank now all the time so I can not see the menu to perform a reset. Is there a reset I can perform without seeing the display?

My K-x is 4 years old. It worked perfectly until last month when the LCD blanked. Changing the batteries seemed to solve the problem but only for an hour and subsequently the time has reduced so now I only get a flash of the LCD when first switching on after replacing the batteries with brand new Lithiums. The blue light around the switch is on, the camera except for the LCD functions correctly, including the flash and the PC USB connection.

Having looked at as many forum and internet items as I can find on this subject the one difference seems to have been that no one else has mentioned the short period of the LCD working with new batteries. However I fear that none of the other cases I have found has been resolved without the camera going back to Pentax and the main PCB replaced.

I have checked using a JPEG reader that the firmaware is 1.0 but again reading the forums I get the impression that without the lcd it is not possible to upgrade and that in any case upgrading would not help.

I am writing just in case someone out there does have an answer other than sending it to Pentax for repair? Also if anyone knows the likely cost of doing that in the UK - I got the impression it would be more than £100 which worries me.
