Pentax K-S2 autofocus problem

Hi.., I just bought a used K-S2 on eBay and out of the box had this same problem. I went to the setup menu and selected "reset". For some reason, that fixed the problem. But, I don't know what was set that caused the AF to not work. It would not work no matter what, but now it seems fine.

On the spec sheet I know that's true. But, show me an image that could not be done without it. I think all these new specs are overkill. I'm not a professional photographer, maybe I'm just missing the boat...

I'd like to see a real life example of something that can be done with the K-1ii that can't be done with the existing K-1.

Starrucca Viaduct is a stone arch bridge that spans Starrucca Creek near Lanesboro, Pennsylvania, in the United States. At the time of its construction, the bridge was thought to be the most expensive railway bridge in the world, at a cost of $320,000 (equal to $8,752,000 today). It was the largest stone rail viaduct in the mid-19th century and is still in use.

Pentax 645z decision vs D810 - struggling

I'd be interested in knowing what you can accomplish with the 645 that you can't with the D810. It is very easy to get drunk with camera specs nowadays and live in constant envy. Hard on the bank account, too!

My original SLR when in my early 20s was a Honeywell Pentax Spotmatic. So, even tho' I migrated to Nikon when I used to shoot semi-professionally many years ago, I've always had a soft spot for the Pentax line. I drooled over the 6 x 7 and 645 when they came out. So, here's my current arsenal:

Nice. I also bought my first 645 within the past year and love shooting with it. It came with the 45 mm 2.8 wide angle. I also picked up an 80-160 zoom.

I recently added two Pentax 645 cameras to my collection, a 645 and a 645n body with 45mm f/2.8 and 80-160 zoom lens. 15 or 16 exposures on a 120 roll is a nice number that lets you go out and shoot and finish off a roll the same day. I still develop my own black and white using chemicals readily available online from places like Freestyle Sales Co. or ultrafineonline.com. Then, I scan the negatives with my flatbed Canon 9950f CanoScan. I scan them as color negatives which gives then a nice, sepia tone initially. Then, I tweak the scans with my favorite photo editing program to remove dust, sharpen, adjust exposure, etc. I've been shooting some 20+ years outdated 120 black and white film and find it still can give usable images. Attached is an example of a photo taken with the 645n with 45mm lens and O2 filter.

Modern digital cameras are wonderful, but let's join together as Pentax users and keep film alive. I'm looking forward to showing my grandkids how to develop and print black and white film in a couple years when they can appreciate it. Then, I will point out to them that the most significant photos ever taken -- flag raising at Iwo Jima, Abe Lincoln, Beatles, etc., etc., -- were taken in this manner. Attached, a photo of my grandfather (center) with some friends taken in 1920. p.s. - want some fun? Take an old photo like this and try to recreate it with relatives of the people in the photo. I found this exact rock, 90 years later, in the park where this was taken.

My motorcycle buddies and I started a monthly photo contest about 4 years ago to help get us through the long, cold winters. The contest has turned out to be more enjoyable for us (and the restaurant servers who are the judges!) than we ever imagined. Though most of the guys submit photos taken with modern digital cameras and smartphone cameras, I like to dip into my large classic camera collection and shoot black and white. Here's my entry for January, 2016 taken with my Pentax 645n with 45mm f/2.8 lens and orange filter. The contest theme is "winter sky." The monthly theme is selected by whoever wins the contest.

Now that we all own modern, complicated digital cameras with a host of exciting and creative possibilities, take a break and "go retro" once in a while. I enjoy shooting a roll of black and white film in one of my many old film cameras that I've collected over the years. You can purchase a Nikon F, F2, F3, F4 or F5, etc., all of which retailed for thousands of dollars in their day, for a few hundred dollars. I enjoy taking one of these out with one lens, say, a 50mm. The goal is to get one or two images that are worthy of displaying in my home gallery. The attached image was taken with a Pentax 645n with a 45mm f/2.8 lens. Film and black and white chemicals are still readily available. I use Freestyle Sales Co. for my supplies.

I just bought a used Pentax 67 system with 5 lenses 2x converter and extension tubes. I'm just starting to shoot with it and it is awesome. A camera like this just feels "real." I'll shoot mostly black and white since I develop that myself. I just enjoy the process of photography in the old school method.

I shoot film because I enjoy the process. It slows me down in the field and makes me think twice about exposing the shot because each shot has a $ cost to it. Digital is fine, but invites you to shoot too many exposures. I enjoy developing my own black and white. Just discovered DIAFINE developer after all these years (I've been developing b&w for 40 years), and it's wonderful! I have an extensive camera collection ranging from Pentax Spotmatics to K-5 digital. I also have a twin lens Mamiya C-220 with 3 lenses, a Pentax 645 with 2 lenses, a Rapid Omega 100, a Bronica ETR with 5 lenses, bellows, ext tubes, etc., and just bought a Pentax 67 system with 4 lenses, extension tubes and 2x converter. Have not shot with this yet since I just got it. 120 film is still available, especially in black and white, and is affordable. Then, there is the Nikon system. 13 bodies and 24 lenses. A Rollei 35, and miscellaneous other cameras round out my collection. See some of my stuff on flickr at www.flickr.com/photos/heydavemyers. I have enough 35mm film in the freezer to last the rest of my lifetime. I still listen to records and reel-to-reel tapes and cassettes. I see no reason to bury this stuff when it's perfectly good. And, I sort of enjoy the ridicule that comes along with being a dinosaur.
