Ridiculously dark. The pentax AF will focus in damn near anything.

I've only had a problem on mine if you are shooting something very reflective - like a traffic sign. They toss out way more light than your eye seems to realize and causes things to underexpose. All other cases have been user error so far.

I have the 18-135 WR and 55-300 WR as well. Both my copies have a bit of movement like that too, so I think it's fairly common and normal. The 18-135 is probably worse and more noticeable (because it comes out in 2 sections) but haven't had any issues because of it.

Pretty sure vacuuming can cause static electricity which can do all sorts of other damage too, not to mention the amount of pressure vacuuming too close to a mirror box can provide.

Small/light is fine as long as it has a grip that you can hold for a good amount of time. Even the K5 grip is just a bit too small to conformably hold for me, and I usually end up in a weird half lens/half camera holding position. Some of these smaller cameras have good 'thumb stops' and other design features so that's a plus.

You've seriously had pec pads come apart and leave fibres behind? I've honestly never seen that or heard of that before. I always fold them over and don't wipe using the edges of them and never had any troubles.

Agreed. Same goes for people who are afraid to clean their sensors because they think if you look at them the wrong way you will magically scratch them. The glass in front is pretty darn tough.

All the 'pens' I've used have left nasty smear marks, no matter how I use them. I use a rocket blower to blow dust, the brush side of one of the pens to clean any remaining dust, and then pecpacs with eclipse to get the rest (if there is any).
But yeah, you can have a really super dirty lens and you wont notice it. I generally leave 'dust' on them as it will eventually blow off in the wind or whenever I get some sort of liquid/dog licks lens I'll give it a cleaning.

Mine will creep a little if you push on it, of if it's left hanging. If you extend it and leave it pointing up any little bit of pressure will cause it to move.

1900 would place it in 6D/D610 range.. but I'm guessing it will launch higher than that. I would say low-mid 2000s for sure.

Yup. Other systems let you set a minimum shutter speed though as well, so that's where these types of things can come into play.

Chris is referring to Nikon's style of popping up the light meter in any mode if you make an adjustment that doesn't meter correctly. So for his example, 1/125, f4 ISO 100... if it's 1 stop too dark from "0EV" the light meter will pop up and indicate how far off it is.
As digitalis said... the only way to know is it will flash at you (but gives you no indication of how far off you are).

I think the suggestion is the DA 300mm can "just" fill a full frame where a full frame lens + SR support needs to have a bigger image circle (so when SR shifts the sensor around, it doesn't vignette to all heck).

FWIW I disable the zoom when I bounce, as it seems to provide more juice and be more accurate and predictable. Canon also seems to disable zoom soon as you adjust the head at all, locking it in at either 24mm or 35mm (I can't remember which).

That's where I was leaning too but he said they were mainly within then ( ) area which would indicate something else. Nikon's view finder display is really nice (D7100) and hope pentax picks something similar up soon. So much more smooth and brighter to see.

For what it's worth I have a Canon Rebel XTi which has pretty much a permanent spot like that too. I have "scrubbed" it with a cleaning swab and it has remained no matter what I've done, and since I really don't care about the camera much at this point, it got a really hard cleaning not a nice gentle one you'd normally do.
Good luck. Might be best just to leave it and edit it out if it crops up in anything visible.

Is it always the same brightness or maybe just a faint ghost light? Perhaps a loose focusing screen?

This is configurable. If you go into the ISO settings (assuming anything other than Auto mode) you can change how the ISO ramps up. You can either do slow (keep ISO low), high (ramp up ISO quickly) or normal which is somewhere in the middle.

Agree with the above. The DC on the 18-135mm is great. Also I think there is a huge stigma against all the SDM failures.

The dust alert feature seems pretty useless when I have used it.
Do you have spots showing up on actual photos, or just in the dust alert?

How did you test it? Perhaps you used a fast focusing lens which got focus before some timer triggered?

So in single shot AF this definitely works properly. It won't release until focus is confirmed.
In continuous auto focus even when it's set to focus priority (not release priority) it will trigger shots (in continuous drive mode) way before the first AF confirmation hits. Of course the work around is to get focus first before jamming some shots away, but it seems like it should at least wait until the first one gets a focus confirmation before starting the sequence.
Or is it just me?

I've used a D7100 a fair bit recently and they are not too bad to use. You definitely miss some of the pentax features though. Hyper program mode for starters. Easy ISO override is another which seems really convoluted on the nikons (you need to take it out of auto ISO, and then jack the ISO up to whatever you want). Ergonomically they do feel really good though, but I guess any decent sized DSLR would these days.
One thing about lens based VR is it really inspires confidence in slow shutter speed shooting when you can (very easily) see things "go steady" when it gets enabled.

My K5 ii does this with a class 6 card. It will show the picture right away (very little delay there) but will take a second or two (or even maybe three) before it updates the display picture with a higher resolution version. Is this what you refer to?
