Mom and Dad have had Toyotas for the past 20-years or so, and mechanical issues, are virtually unheard of. As dad was dying, in the few days before his death, he insisted mom replace the RAV-4 last year with a new RAV-4 (the old one was about 7-years old and mom does not probably have that many more years (she is 89), and except when I travel to Tucson to visit and we take a trip to Kitt Peak, she is going to the grocery store, hardware store, Lowes (seldom), and Walgreens. Toyotas are reliable. That said, I have a Chevy Equinox, and it is reliable, too. The Japanese taught GM a lesson, or two.

I have a K-3. The $576 exceeds the value of a K-3, but that makes a used K-1 almost new, doesn't it? While it is not a bargain repair cost, a K-1 purchased circa 2021 for $650 with deferred maintenance, for a total of $1,226 does seems like a bargain, and it will be mechanically, virtually new.

Tamron 90mm f2.8. An oldie but goodie: Sonoran Desert by Mark Roeder, on Flickr ---------- Post added 03-07-24 at 11:16 PM ---------- Another oldie but goodie, but this was taken with the 21mm Limited and K-3, it is the #1 gila monster, heavily cropped, as my adult daughter hollered, "Dad, it's poisonous, get away!" But, I had the wrong lens mounted and had to draw closer. Gila Monster by Mark Roeder, on Flickr

I just examined my lens hood for my 21mm Limited lens. It says it is a 43mm hood. It is a unique hood, so you couldn't put the lens cap over it, if you bought an aftermarket lens hood with a 43mm thread.
The opening is 25mm x 34mm, as best I could measure. I couldn't do that fine handiwork to a lens cap, but if you have the tools, you could. My Pentax OEM lens cap has a filter.

Yes, but I think your message is in the wrong forum on here. I am a bit younger. My 1st Pentax was an ME Supper. I seem to get a lower percentage of keepers in the digital age, but the keepers I get are higher quality than the analog age.

You are fortunate to get to mat level. I first bought a digital Pentax camera, while my daughter was running X-Country at the college D-III level. I used point and shoot in high school.
In college, I had my old manual 28mm K-Mart Focal manual lens, and I would practice at manually focusing just where she would be in range. It wasn't very effective, but the posed photos after the meet were very good. I started acquiring better lenses, which is why I suggested the 70-200mm f/2.8 lens. Even in cross country an f/2.8 lens will help bring clarity to matters.
I also took photos of her at other x-country races, and her boyfriend who was a sprinter at track and field runs with my Tamron 90mm f/2.8, and I got some great images with it. The focal range helped bring out focused detailed photos.
My regret is I wished I had better digital camera equipment earlier when she was younger. I was caught between the film era and the digital era, a failing film camera, switching to point and shoot digital, and then budgeting with DSLRs. I wish now I spent more.

How did that go for you? Being close to the mat helps. I have the 55-300mm (non plm) and use it at college football games, but they are outdoors. If you are next to the mat you can keep it down to f/4.5.Now I am thinking you might want to try a prime lens in his younger years if you can get close to the mat. You should check the EXIF data to see the mm you were shooting at to determine what length you need.
Eventually, if he keeps with sports you will want a 70-200mm f/2.8.

You, and especially your spouse, will later regret, not documenting your son's youth to its fullest extent. We were stuck between the film and digital age when my daughter was growing up. You need a 70-200mm f/2.8. Maybe you can find a used Tamron lens that is less expensive, but still good. A 70-200mm is better for indoor sports than the 150-450mm.

Not many manual transmissions left. Nice post. Good luck with the new/used car.
I am driving a 2017 Equinox which I have had since 2021. It has been very reliable in contrast to the BMW X5 Diesel I had before, and in contrast to the 2009 Dodge Journey I had before the BMW. The BMW was very much fun, when it worked, ... when it worked.

For what little it may be worth, I use a 26" 14-year old television set that is connected via HDMI. Television sets now are a tiny fraction of what I paid for this one. It is bright, and clear. Much better than any of my computer monitors.
