Or consider the DA 12-24, not as technically perfect as the 11-18, but lower cost and might be more in the sweet spot for a lot of your shooting.

On paper (and perhaps in reality) the K-3 is the better camera. However that 16MP Sony sensor in the K-5iis is something special, the color, the dynamic range, there is just something magical about the output from that camera.
Personally I will never sell mine, but it comes down to your use case. Another consideration is you can't fully use the newer KAF4 lenses on the K-5iis

Nothing to see here........Remember the KF is a 'least investment possible' continuation of the K-70. They only changed what they were forced to due to component supply issues.
I'm pretty sure the pentaprism is the same, and they put zero dollars into improving or changing it.

It's actually a genius piece of marketing, we're all talking about it here, the youtubers and talking heads are going nuts......and all this publicity and buzz for a $ 35.78 marketing campaign investment ....nice work Pentax!

Yeah Clackers, you're right. Let's be honest the Japanese collector types are probably keeping the brand afloat, so this middle aged Brit shouldn't complain :)
I had a crystal blue K-30, and it does look even better in real life than any picture, but I think a silver option could have pushed a couple of thousand extra units.

Initially underwhelmed, but after some reflection it makes sense.
They have very limited R&D budget and that is rightly focused on K1iii right now and maybe other things we don't know about.
The only mistake here is the blue and white options, should have gone with the black or silver like KP & K3iii. This camera would have looked fantastic in that light silver.

Yes, the parts are unavailable. Not economic to repair. I would buy a used replacement lens and sell this one as a parts lens.

I love the Q system for travel.
Some thoughts on your thoughts..
Macro: the 04 Q lens has pretty close focusing (7cms), not razor sharp, but with some PP can be decent. Adapted K mount macros lenses on the Q will mercilessly expose any lens weaknesses, particuIarly things like CA and fringing
Wide: the 02 does a great job but if you need wider the 08 is the only game in town. It's expensive, but it's worth it.
Tele: Again adapted K mount glass will amplify the lenses inherent weaknesses. You would need to find a K mount lens with minimal CA and fringing. For example the DA*200 is fantastic on K-mount, but put it on a Q and it is CA fringe-fest. The DA*300 on the other hand looks good on the Q.

It depends what kind things you want to shoot, wide angle cityscapes, people shots, general street.
The 16-50 is ideal, good focal range and fast aperture. But if you are looking for something a bit smaller the 20-40 limited is great as a general purpose walk around.
If you want smaller still the 21 limited pancake would probably be my preference over the 35 limited for this job, but it's entirely personal.

Nope, an absolute optical jewel. One of the best lenses Pentax ever produced.
Sticky aperture blades are pretty rare on this lens. This is the only case that I recall hearing about.

I had one just like that. I'm 95% sure it's fungus.
Amazingly all that dust and fungus actually doesn't seem to impact the image quality.
I was able to disassemble it and clean it.
This seems very common with the 18-55's for some reason. I bet lot's of people with these lenses would be surprised if they examined them carefully.

K-3 is heavier though and doesn't have a flippy/tilty screen.
I'm not sure how much more a KP is but I would go for that as it check all your boxes.
Second choice would be the K-70, it gives you pixel-shift and better high-ISO and resolution over K-S2
Metering and AF is basically the same between K-5ii, K-S2 and K-70.
KP has improved AF, better AWB and better metering (and better JPGs IMHO) than the K-5ii, K-S2 & K-70.
K-3 improves the metering and AF too but you don't get a moveable screen.

Very easy repair, two screws, pull out, push new one in, screw down, done.

Almost certainly a 2007 build (pre-2012 when the SDM redesign occured).
However it is a beautiful lens, one of my favorites. The SDM thing is a lottery. You just have to accept that as a price of admission.

Given the kit you have, I'd also suggest the DA* 50-135. They can be found used for very reasonable prices and if the SDM fails it can be converted to screwdrive.
The DA* 60-250 is awesome but bigger and heavier than the DA* 50-135. However if you need more reach than 135mm then go for the 60-250 without hesitation, even used.
One wild card budget option is the Pentax/Takumar F series 70-200 / 70-210 lenses. Great bang for the buck, particularly for APS-C.

What do you shoot?
I'd consider leaving the 18-35 at home and get a 16-85 to pair up with 100-300. That would give you a two lens kit rather than three.

Sorry to hear this. This sounds like one of those cases where the stars align and you get a failure.
What I don't get is how it can be uneconomic to repair.
Certainly the main board got fried, but replacing that should be maybe a $500 repair.

Thanks for the updates Mistral.
I'm really hoping for RAW support in a future firmware update. I'll pull the trigger on a purchase if they add that.

A 1 rating for any product is a user who is angry and or frustrated with their purchase and wants to vent.
They had certain expectations and the product didn't meet them. We can see the review for what it is and account for it. No big deal.
As for CA, it is more inherent with the DA*200 then the DA*300. Adapt them both on a Q (which will highlight any deficiency without mercy) and you will see this clearly.
However in my limited real-world use of the DA*200, CA has been a total non-issue. Rendering is stunning as many of you have already pointed out.

Good move by Ricoh. Relatively low cost R+D, new lens formula on an existing high margin platform.
It will be more of a niche product than the regular GR III, but exploiting niches is where the market is heading.
The marketing rollout is completely botched, but hey it's Ricoh. Nevertheless, this will sell to those in the know anyway.
