Finally getting around to editing some of the shots I've taken with my newly acquired 08 lens. I really like it and plan to use it more often alongside my 01. Used the Godox Lux Senior flash which I also love. Let me know if you prefer the color or B&W version.

Candles 1 Final (1 of 1) by Christopher Rankin, on Flickr

Morgan wanted to do a fun Halloween shoot. Recently found a mint 05 lens on eBay. It's a great lens and I am happy to have completed my collection. That being said the 01 is still my favorite and will be my go to for most of my portrait work on the Q7but the 05 is great for multiple subjects and more environmental portraits.

While not up to LeRolls model standards my model is my best friend Molly =) QS! and 02 lens

Using exif tool and turning into MX-1 I can then use the DXO noise reduction, Here the shot is 1600 ISO then the deep prime added. Not bad I am thinking and worth more experimenting.

Hello. I usually use a Vello flash sync cord so I can hold the flash away from the camera a bit.

These shots are natural light:

Cheek! I'm senile but not THAT senile! Sif suggest I don't know the price of the camera I bought! Finding $2.3k for my first full frame was a HUGE DEAL for me back then! It wasn't even on sale, it was bought from Ted's around 2018 (not even on special if I recall, perhaps it wasn't selling well), and was priced $2300ish (I have the receipt somewhere!). Point is, that since 2018, a major physical store in Sydney was selling this camera cheaper than what Pentax has it ONLINE for NOW (and likely even back then). Online sellers tend have the means to undercut physical retailers, and now we're here in 2022... do we really think 2016 tech is worth a price increase??!? Or even HOLDING price... It doesn't, period. Pentax Australia's prices are nutso... but hey I heard Pentaxians in Australia are some of the West's biggest Pentax simps (not joking here, literally inside information) so maybe they know exactly what they're doing.

So if the K-1 released for $2900 in 2016, then 2 years later me being able to pick it up from a store for $2300 is ENTIRELY PLAUSIBLE... :|

For once we agree. I even tried to defend this camera on the Pentaxian Fb group. Where Pentax have (once again) gone wrong is with their marketing and approach. This is literally just a production line change, it's really not a 'new new' camera like what we associate when a brand releases a bonafide new body. This should have simply been names K-70ii and no one would be losing their mind. Instead it is 'KF' and now everyone is like 'omg this is garbage for a new 2022 camera!' (when in reality it is a minimal effort from Pentax to keep K-70 going as an option. It's a little like the HD FA Ltds, not really a 'upgrade per se', but rather a means to keep production going, and in order to do that they are getting rounded blades and some coating. Better this than nothing. But if you MARKET this as 'new' and 'updated' then it can get a pretty hard attack as being a pretty pitiful change. Pentax's biggest issue with the West is communication (I mean look at all Youtube Ricoh vids, they don't even give us English subtitles...)

And as I said elsewhere, around this price point you could indeed get mirrorless cameras, but they won't have AW. If you want a rugged landscape camera on a budget then Pentax has your back, weather sealing on other brands can often come at a very high price! And like you said I think the block issue might have been resolved. To have (at this price) AW, pixelshift, that's no joke, IQ wise it will likely rival my XT4 and best it.

Lol i saw this the other day, was great :D

Blessed be rich people who can't take a photo, they subsidize everyone else. :D

Yeah, I've always thought these things are hard to do justice in a picture exactly how blingy they are. I'm sure if I actually held your blue K-30 I'd glaze over like Gollum in Lord of the Rings and you'd have to prise it back off me.

Thank you. Good to be back. Was pleasantly surprised at how nice the colors came out. The raw files look great as long as I keep the ISO down. Hoping to shoot enough decent content to put out a book eventually. Codename Project Q.

I have some colored gels coming and I hope working with the Q7 will spark my creativity.

For a long time I have had a project in my head. I want to do a series of portraits with the Q7 and my godox lights. I have ordered some Tiffen filters as well as a Godox wireless trigger for Pentax. The goal is to go for a more filmic/retro aesthetic. I have the 01, the 06, and have ordered the 07 as well. Maybe someday I will bite the bullet and track down the 08 but since portraits are my mine interest I think I already have the best lenses for the job unless I want to adapt some glass to the Q7. Do you guys have any recommendations for good low cost C-mount lenses for portraits? I like interesting bokeh that is unique with lots of character.

Pentax Q7 with F100/2.8 macro

Did a test shot of the new setup.
New diffuser and new smaller Godox TT350 that can sit lower and nearer the lens/subject.

Woke up too late to do any serious shots in the late morning, but managed to stop a housefly.

Tamron 70-200 f2.8 need lighter weight

My opinion, for what it's worth....

Keep your DA*300, and consider the HD DA 1.4x rear converter. It is the perfect compliment - like they were designed to work together ;)

Your Tamron is probably the lightest f/2.8 full frame telezoom going around. If you are shooting crop I would consider the fantastic DA* 50-135/2.8 instead. It also works very well with the teleconverter. Or the DFA 70-210/4.0 if you want a smaller focal length gap to the 300.

On the other hand, if weight is absolutely crucial, and a slower aperture is not a deal-breaker, the HD DA 55-300 PLM might be your one stop shop.

Hello, thanks to Pentax Ambassador in Korea, I borrowed and used the K-1 markiij limited model.

When this product was released for the first time, I was half-doubtful about whether it would sell well,
but when I touched the actual product, I realized that it was an attractive camera for Pentax fans.

However, as of now that the k-3 markiii is released, I am looking forward to the performance of the next k-1 markiii,
so I think it will be difficult to purchase it immediately.
In that sense, I will upload detailed photos for those who cannot purchase this product but might be curious.

I hope everyone has a good day!

Simple pleasures... Lunch out, a walk, un-planned photography and "coffee"

Regulars here may recall that my parents and I live together in the same home. It's not without its occasional minor frustrations, but overall it works pretty well. We have a rescue cat, Boo Boo, who adores us all but is particularly devoted to my Mum, and she him. Since the start of the pandemic, our family activities away from home - restaurant visits, days out etc. - have been significantly curtailed. My Mum has become increasingly dedicated to Boo Boo (you might say obsessively so), and spends a lot of time with him in the garden, whatever the weather. My Dad has become almost welded to the sofa in our living room, and barely looks up from his Kindle tablet 90% of the time :o

Today, on a spur of the moment, I suggested that I drive us to one of our local coastal towns for a take-out lunch we could eat in the car, and a change of scenery (and because I didn't feel like making lunch again today :p). The weather seemed quite pleasant - around 9°C / 48°F and dry - so potentially a good day for it. To my delight, both Mum and Dad agreed. Getting Mum away from the cat was a minor miracle, but he'd just finished a bowl of his favourite food and had curled up on "his" laptop bag (that used to be mine). He was settling down for a long nap, so the timing was perfect...

... and off we went to Seaburn. Half an hour later we parked up, and I wandered over to Minchella's to order fish & chips (Britain's famed contribution to world cuisine ) from their window service. We sat in the car, sun bleaching through the windows, and gorged on our deep-fried, calorie-laden meals. None of us said much while we ate... the food did all the talking; it was delicious :D

Suitably replete, I felt a short stroll was in order to aid the constitution, and suggested as much. Dad would normally object to such a notion - he's not one for much walking these days (or anything else that requires physical effort, frankly :p) - but again both my folks surprised me by readily agreeing. We took our time and ambled along the promenade for an hour, chatting, talking to dog owners and their dogs, gulping down the salty sea air and enjoying the sun. I hadn't taken any serious photographic equipment with me, as I didn't expect to take any photos... but the light made me wish I had :o The low Winter sun was casting long shadows and a golden glow upon everything... Colours were popping in a way I've not seen for months. So, I didn't have a DSLR with me... but I did take my little Panasonic DMC-TZ70 compact (that's a DMC-ZS50 for you folks in the colonies :D), and I've always agreed with that well-worn phrase, "the best camera is the one you have with you" - so I thought "what the heck" and took a few snapshots. It was fun, and since I tend to walk a lot quicker than my parents (even though I try not to), they were able to catch up or walk ahead while I composed my shots :D

On the way home, we stopped in at Aldi so I could buy some of their inexpensive Alcafe Rich Roast instant freeze-dried coffee. I'll be trying my hand with Caffenol film developer in the next couple of weeks and needed some cheap coffee for the chemistry. At GBP £1.39 (about USD $1.90) for 200g / 7oz, it certainly qualifies as cheap - so I bought a couple of jars.

Finally, we arrived home - three hours after setting out! We all agreed we'd had a wonderful time - great food, an invigorating walk with lots of fresh air, some social interaction in the safest way possible right now, and perfect weather for it all. Boo Boo was delighted to see us... His laptop case was still toasty warm to the touch, so he'd obviously been asleep on it until we returned. Bless him :D

Settling down for the evening ahead, my thoughts turned to the cheap instant coffee I'd bought. Though I'd acquired it for film developing, I wondered if - given the price - it was actually drinkable  I'm a freshly-ground coffee man, but I'm not ashamed to say I can enjoy a cup of strong instant every now and then. My Mum drinks it all the time and doesn't like real coffee. I always buy Nescafe Original Extraforte when I do the grocery shopping, because it's her favourite and I quite like it too. It's an imported variety that only a few supermarkets stock over here, and usually costs around GBP £3 for a 200g jar at our local discount grocery store - but it's not always stocked consistently, and can be difficult to source. Anyhow... curiosity got the better of me. I broke the seal on one jar of the Aldi coffee and made myself a cup, adding Coffee Mate powdered creamer (my guilty secret :o ). I expected it to taste pretty rough, but no... it was remarkably similar to the Nescafe Extraforte :hmm: ... so similar, in fact, that I made a cup of the Nescafe too - same amount of freeze-dried coffee granules, water and creamer - to try alongside the Aldi stuff... and I honestly couldn't taste any difference! So, I made another cup of Aldi coffee and another cup of Nescafe - this time with milk - for my Mum to try. I asked her to taste them and tell me which one she thought was Nescafe - and she couldn't! As a result, we're switching to the Aldi Alcafe Rich Roast from now on. It's just as good and less than half the price. We'll save around £4 per month on average, or close to £50 per year... not a lot of money, admittedly, but in these days of rising costs, every little bit helps :D Of course, I'm now down one jar of developing chemicals... :p

As I implied in the title, it was an afternoon of simple pleasures... Tasty lunch, a lovely walk in a pretty location with lots of fresh, sea air... some unexpected photography in wonderful light... and a surprise discovery on instant coffee that saves us a wee bit of money too. All days should be like this :D

I haven't processed all my shots yet, but I have a few keepers already. Just snapshots - little memories of the afternoon out. Taken, as I said, with the Panasonic DMC-TZ70 compact, shooting raw to squeeze the most from its tiny 1/2.3" sensor and processed in Lightroom 6 + GIMP 2.10...
