I bought a used DA 40mm limited and when I was examining it I found that the protruding piece next to the aperture control bar was cracked. It did say in the description that the lens showed signs of usage but it did not say exactly where. So my question is, will this crack critically affect the performance of this lens or can I live with it if I am extra careful? Everything else seems to be ok.

@waterfall It is actually a bit north. The image was taken at Bird Rock of the 17-mile-drive in Carmel, CA.

1.JPG are processed inside the camera while DNG is the raw image so it is normal for the JPG and DNG to look different.
2.For night photography a tripod is useful for longer exposures and to reduce the shake

Thank you all for your warm welcomes. I am a univ. student so I can't go on photo excursions as often as I would like. But winter break is almost here and I am looking forward taking full advantage of the K5's WR

I have always enjoyed taking photos and have until now used my dad's Canon 500D when I had the chance. But after some time I wanted a camera for my own. After months of surfing the web and watching the used markets (and saving money) I finally came across a K5-iis in good condition with under 3000 counts. And thus I acquired my first camera. I am a complete amateur when it comes to photography but I am looking forward to improving it and some day contributing to the already excellent collection of photos on this forum.
Hope to be posting soon
