I had an opportunity to work with the preset takumar 135 3.5 this weekend at Deception Pass State Park on Widbey Island, WA. A last minute, end of summer camping trip with friends and my family... The photos below are of the Puget Sound coast and were taken on a tripod within minutes before and after sunset. This is a nice lens and a lot of fun to explore and use. |

Beautiful photos from Deception Pass! I know the area well and it is always a pleasure to be reminded of its natural beauty.

Eric is the "go to" guy for Pentax repairs for those of us here on PF. His pricing is fair and he was worked in Pentax service back-in-the-day. Eric Hendrickson Pentax Repair

There are numerous posts in other sections of Pentax forum and other forums regarding the new accelerator chip Pentax is using in the KP and K-1 and how it "cooks" the raw files. All of it is hogwash, of course, but none the less folks post it and some believe it.
I'm with you on the K-3 shadow produced and being able to lift the in RAW development.

I picked one up back in July for $400USD in mint condition and only 400 clicks on it,it even included the battery grip, love this camera so much I picked up another yesterday at a pawn shop that I have been watching over the last 11 months. It is a silver edition with battery grip with only 4000 clicks on it. The starting price 11 months ago was $860 USD, I got it for $300.
Now I have two K3s, 1 K5, and a K01. Sure loving the K3s tho.

SR has zero effect on Z-axis tracking. IBIS is not ILIS.
You would disable SR if the camera was on a tripod - which I believe was the case in the DPR test. I'm not defending the K-1. It failed the test and it always will - but that test isn't relevant for the K-1 use profile and their inferences (not suitable for shooting small, active children) are not supported. Who puts a dSLR on a tripod to burst-photograph little kids?
The K-1 is not suitable for shooting a weaving bicyclist riding at you while the camera is mounted on a tripod.
Done and done.

These were taken inside a huge cave behind a waterfall. The first is an HDR of three in-camera HDRs and abviously has far greater dynamic range, but I'm not sure I like it more than the single in-camera HDR (second pic).
The dynamic range of the scene was huge - fast moving (therefore frothy and white) water in bright sunlight and near darkness way back in the cave. The HDR shot is a more accurate of how the scene appeared to the eye.
Both taken with the DA 21mm & K3.

I use CGProPrints and have been pretty happy with them. I have had to have them redo a couple of prints that weren't quite right over the past few years and they have always been accommodating.
Their primary business seems to be canvas wraps but they do other products too. Prices are great!

Us: (in every interview for at least the past five years): When are you going to uncripple the K-mount? Pentax (in every interview for at least the past five years): We're not going to uncripple the K-mount. Us: They're going to uncripple the K-mount!
(Pentax doesn't uncripple the K-mount.) Us: Awwww - next time, they'll uncripple the K-mount!

Perhaps for your purposes it is not. But for archival gallery prints, longevity of the investment in art is critical. C-type dye prints will only last around 30 years, Inkjet dye prints perhaps 20 years longer than that, Pigment prints upwards of 90 years, silver gelatin prints 140 years, Selenium toning pushes to that upwards of 200 years. Carbon/Platinum prints 1000+ years.

I suggested on here a few years back that we investigate this idea. I wondered if the Forum could serve as the sponsoring organization. There are, of course, multiple issues to work through: insurance, transportation, trust, terms, etc. But, yes, I hope someone figures out how to do this.

I can't check how it works, as I don't own the K-3 II, but these are from the latest newsletter from silkypix:

It seems that most of these features could be added to the K3 via firmware, let's keep our fingers crossed...
