Thanks for the comment! First I totally agree with to much sky. I was photographing this in the rain with my tripod on the edge with me leaning over the fence... opps. I do generally try to stay between f8 and f11 but wasn't able to get a longer exposure on this shot.

I do not see a green tint I may however have pushed the color a bit to much(I have been known to do it from time to time). It was rainy... the sky was gray and everything looked flat to me...

So I've been using darktable for a while now and other then the slight brightness difference between computers the pics look good. Well tis the season and I went to the local Kodak instant picture machine to print out some pics for the family and every single pic looks EXTREMELY over saturated. Looked on line and someone was saying something about saving pics with wrong color space. What color space should I be using.. and is there an easy fix for all my pics(50 gigs of jpgs) or am I screwed?? Thanks for any help in advance!

I'll give that a try. The Nikons exposure bracketing was limited to 3 exposures at 1+/-

I generally do everything in Darktable then simply do a auto correct in shotwell on pics that are kinda flat(completely my fault I turn off base curve in Darktable to bring back blown highlight).

lol.... not shotwell.... showfoto... sorry

I use Darktable to process all my raws then use shotwell to finish my pics. Shotwell has a section for black and white that includes tone curve.. film simulation.. and filters...

---------- Post added 12-13-14 at 07:54 AM ----------

When I was processing the pic I brought the exposure down a bit... any more and it started to getting funky gray banding. The pic was actually shot on tripod no flash. Was slightly underexposed... the Kodak HIE filter is what causes the over exposed look. Kinda reminds me of glamour shots from the film days.

Still playing around with old prime. Processed this with film filter Kodak HIE. My wife says its to bright... I like it.. it smooths out the skin and makes the eyes pop.

I like your option #1 the best.. but after some tinkering I think I found a quicker method.. kinda sloppy but Ill have to try it!!

1. Link autofocus and exposure.
2. Go into live view and use movable spot focus to set your focus pushing shutter button halfway.
3. Turn switch on camera from Auto focus to Manual focus.
4. Move focus point to point of desired metering... camera will remeter but not refocus... take shot..
5. Move focus to next point and continue...

You are right. I would put the camera in Selective Spot Metering(I think that was the term), Put camera on tripod, live view focus, lock focus, start taking shots.. metering first outside of cave and start working my way in... generally 5-7 shot.. then create HDR.. very rarely had to mask anything.

Thanks for the reply! I'll check out your directions when I get home and have camera in hand!

Actually I don't have a screw adapter. I was thinking about it till I heard horror story's of them getting stuck on the camera. Speaking of getting stuck.. both my Pentax-A 50 1.4 and my Pentax-A 50 2.0 go on a bit tighter then my 18-135. Both lens's are in great shape.. is it normal for the old lens's to be a "bit" tighter going on???

That would indeed work if it weren't for the camera being on a tripod for multi-exposures. May have to try linking metering and focus and see if my HDR program will compensate for any DOF or focus difference's. Thanks for the reply!

The Nikon was only movable while in live view. Was hoping for the same on the K3.

I do a lot of landscape and cave photography which requires multiple exposures which are shot from tripod. Back in my Nikon days I could set the camera up on a tripod, put it in live view and select my exposure point by moving the dot with my cross pad. With my K3 I'm only able to do this if my metering is locked with focus point(this is not ideal). Or I can put on center spot metering and move the camera to set exposure(also not ideal). Am I missing some hidden setting somewhere?? Thanks in advance for any help!!

Pic to show harsh lighting. Taken with Nikon back in the day.

If you are correct which I'm not saying you are or aren't (I'm just trying to learn a little bit) Then how do you measure "apparent size"??

Now I'm really confused

"
Numerical aperture is not typically used in photography. Instead, the angular aperture of a lens (or an imaging mirror) is expressed by the f-number, written f/# or , which is defined as the ratio of the focal length to the diameter of the entrance pupil :

Thanks for the reply! So to add to the confusion... does that mean that on a zoom lens where the minimum aperture is say 3.5 - 5. does that mean that the diameter of the hole stays the same but the number changes because of focal length??
