Difficult one for me to answer. Here are my thoughts.
I would like to agree on being able to use it handheld. But then again, I donīt. It depends on the situation. It takes some practice anyway and I have even used it as a walkaround lens.
In good light conditions, when you are able to keep shutterspeed and ISO down it is not much of a problem. Especially if you use it in the lower focal range, say up to 300mm or so.
But to get the best results out of it I like to use a tripod or monopod if I can. You simply gain image quality / sharpness. With the K-1 that makes a bit of a difference.
I see that for birders anything below 300mm is pretty useless. So I can understand the thought of the 150 300mm range being obsolete. But for wildlife I would not want to miss the extra focal range. Moving away from portrait shots and picturing more of the scene around my motive is a gain for me and adds other possibilities.

Thank you - and yes! I certainly did not get this lens for macro photography. But together with the cropping ability of the K-1, it works quite well. I am not going to complain about it! ---------- Post added 06-24-17 at 12:49 PM ----------
I am only noticing now.
The dragonfly on your avatar pic seems to be of the same kind as the one on my pics?

@ Kevriano
Funny, I had excactly the same problem last weekend. Chasing Dragonflies, they would not let me get close enough to take decent shots with the 100mm macro lens. So I decided to give the 150-450 a try.
Cropping ability of the K1 is absolutely fantastic!
Following pics are around 80% crops.

Thought that I post some pictures taken last year on our trip to Namibia & Botswana. I had just gotten the 150 - 450, so the learning curve was steep! I did not regret the purchase. Its a fine lens and performs well together with the K-1.

I can only second that!
There is only one thing limiting the use of my K-1, and that is myself!
It takes a while to master such "problems" as narrow depth of field or the wider view of the fullframe. I am rewarded with reliable quick autofocus, lots of detail and dynamic range, great ISO performance, pixelshif and what not else...
Technically - nothing to complain about so far.

For me this is a good combo.
Still having to get used to the narrow depth of field.
No. 3 shot straight into the sunlight. Amazing recovery potential with the K-1.
All shots cropped to my liking.

Has anybody found a solution to switch on and off the histogram in playback mode? I mean like switching between histogram and no information on the display for the last image taken. The buttons fx1 / fx2 donīt seem to offer a solution.
I can set it so, that the histogram is displayed regularly. Now, I like to switch between histogram and the no information, so that I have a better overview of my image. In order to do so, I have to enter the menu "Standard Information Display" and select the type of information to be displayed during playback mode. Itīs kind of annoying to go through the whole process everytime I want to switch the histogram on or off.
The K-3 had the same issue. I was confident that there had been an improvement in the K-1 regarding this.
Am I missing something? Or is there no function like this?
Any help is much appreciated!

Stunning 3D look! The log in the foreground looks truely three dimensional! Almost surreal.

A friendly lady contacted me on the phone.
She apologised and agreed that this camera was not new and factory sealed. They are still investigating the matter, as this camera was not meant for retail and should never have been sent to me. She promised that they normally only send out brand new products. I donīt have much reason to doubt that. This dealer has quite a good reputation with good feedback for his online shop as well as for a small number of stores.
In exchange I will get a brand new K-1 from the last shipment! Should be on its way right now! :p

And I forgot to mention, apart from the mode dial being in the P position, the autofocus was on AF-C with autofocus points shifted to the left. Now that can only be done manually. So, as you suspect, I think that this camera was either returned to the dealer previously, or it was on display at his store. In any case definitly not brand new and untouched.
So for my part, I am not going to blame Pentax for a bad product. I blame it on a previous handling error!! Makes me feel better while I am awaiting replacement :p

K-1 is on its way back to the dealer. I made contact via e-mail and shortly afterwards received an answer including a retoure ticket for sending it back at his expense. So far so good. As asked, I included a detailed error report, also stating that I believe the camera was not brand new, but had been handled before. I just hope I get a replacement soon, without him making too much fuss about it.
As to what caused this error, I have no idea. I think any explanation is purely speculative. Maybe production error, maybe a faulty component, maybe the package was bumped around too much during transport. ---------- Post added 06-24-16 at 03:11 PM ----------
Agree. A shuttercount of above 30, as in this case, seems a bit too much for a new camera. Still, I would probably not have complained about it, if all would have been good. Anyway, checking the shuttercount is a good idea. Especially if you buy online (which I usually donīt do!!)
