It all depends on your optical and practical priorities.
The DA18-135's trump cards are its frame-wide performance at 18mm (a number of members here praise its use as a wide-angle lens) and weather resistance. Its biggest weakness is poor performance at the longer end, away from the frame centre, which is what led me to return my briefly-owned copy.
Though I'm loathe to recommend super-zoom lenses, if you're prepared to give up some border and corner performance at 18mm and weather resistance then the Sigma 18-300 is actually a pretty good option (I can't speak for the 18-200 version). It's fully useable throughout its focal length range, with the centre always quite sharp, even wide open, though it needs stopping down for acceptable border performance. It's surprisingly good at 300mm (in the centre, at least) which, coupled with near-silent AF, makes it a useful tool for birds and other wildlife. It's a lens of compromises, and has a few rendering quirks as you'd expect - but it's much better than, for example, the Pentax DA18-270 (given my experience of both) and nicer than any lens of its type ought to be...
I've almost sold mine twice, as I have other optically-better combos that cover the same broad focal length range... but I just can't bring myself to let it go. It's a handy lens to own, even if kept in reserve.

I’d contact Amazon as suggested. It is possible the lens was fraudulently sent back, it could be refurbished etc. let Amazon offer their suggestions for resolving this.

Complain to Amazon. They will know who sent the old lens back to them and can deal.with the fraudster as they see fit.

If that's the case, what shocking behaviour :( Surely that's fraud, or perhaps even theft?
I wonder if folks doing such things realise they're gradually making things more expensive for - and retailers less trusting of - the rest of us? :o

Simple. Someone bought it, swapped it with their old lens, returned that and kept the new one.

Reminds me of toothpaste that one finds on the drug store's shelves. Much of it is based on the same active ingredients, give or take a few percentages, but brands package their products in various ways to occupy as much shelf space as possible.

Wait for the 18-300. I have had all the superzooms, and the Sigma 18-300 is the best of the lot. At 300, it is very comparable to the 55-300plm, and better than the old 55-300. It loses a little at the wide end, but still very good.

couldn't agree with you more.
guess it applies to how one wants to use their camera.
I, for one, usually use it for portraits, thus the GPS tracker, and the star trail features are used, maybe once a year, if that?
though, for what its worth, i think the K1 is probably the most versatile camera out there with features that apply to landscapes, architecture, portrait, travel, documentary, fashion etc styles. Maybe not the BEST option in all categories, but certainly can hold its own and is very capable of great things.
oh how i love my k1

The shutter sound is the shutter sound, not a sound effect. I think the hope is that since the camera does have electronic shutter capability for pixel shift, they might be able to give us an electronic shutter in other modes via a later firmware update.

re: IKEA batteries Are the Ikea Ladda batteries just as good as Eneloops?
My recollection is that the 6 AA batteries weigh more than a single lithium ion battery for the k-1. That weight isn’t directly transferable to capacity given the difference in chemistry but it is relevant to what you want to carry.
Also bear in mind that continuous drain isn’t how most of us use these devices excluding video) the more intermittent use may reveal a different pattern.

How long is the recital? I have been to some that go on a long time with many age levels of performers. If you have an external power supply that may be helpful. If not, make sure you have plenty of batteries and a place to charge them. Remember, you can only record 25 or 29 minutes at one time. Good luck.

The two camera setup is good, as is a separate audio recording. Hopefully you have software to edit. If at all possible keep the cameras shaded to reduce heat buildup. Better yet to have a video camera, but then it will cost you. This is really an unreasonable request that they have sprung on you, so they should not be too critical of the results, but we know how that works.

I believe 'setting the illumination of the indicator lamp' (not 'illumination button') should do the trick. |

Good point!
- Demand for improved APS-C bodies signaled potential demand for full-frame
- Demand for APS-C bodies provided the R&D funds to bring K-1 to market

I would argue that if people had not spent their hard earned money on apsc upgrades, Pentax would never have made the K1…

Another idea - adding in support for taking autofocus tune beyond the +,- 10. While these autofocus settings may be enough for well calibrated factory lenses, the older ones that have been repeatedly handled may need more range on the autofocus settings to make it worthwhile.

Virtual CD cloning software will format a removable storage device (like a USB memory stick) to look like a DVD/CD drive to your computer and copy the installation files from a CD into an ISO image file. I use Virtual CloneDrive myself, but there are lots of options. However, you still in order to copy files from the CD to the other removable storage device.

Hi Biz
Consumerism met the plateau for camera sales and now mobile phone tech is trumping them all. Only the semi - serious photographer is playing in the camera market , " mum and dad ' are just using a phone now.

Or it could be their exact setup - lens model and tripod included.
It doesn't feel like they'd be willing to investigate their setup though (they didn't for the D780 either). I expect a lengthy talk about shutter shake in their full review...
