at the horse races today were a couple of canons, one nikon gal and a pentax dude (me). So if you like screwing around with statistics: pentax users are as common as nikon ones!

Hello,
today I had my first lens drop event. I am notoriously clumsy so I am mostly surprised it took so long.
1m height.
On bare cobble stones
Front element first.
When I saw it there, standing on its front, my first reaction was 'oh sh*t'. Second was 'luckily not the 100mm macro'. I picked it up. Filter ring is broken, but glass looked ok.
Put it on camera, tried autofocus. Motor run like mad, no focusing.
Manual focus worked.
After manual focusing AF worked again. Yay!
Did some test shots - works like before.
Conclusion: it might be plastic, but it is sturdy. And the light weight might have been a factor in its survival.

well, The Verve were screwed over by the Rolling Stones over a sample.
And this guy is free to steal other people's work.
Mad world. No justice.

I'd argue that while software has become more complex, it also has become simpler when it comes to interaction with the hardware and other software. The OS do great jobs abstracting away all the nasty details. In dos/macos8&9 or windows 9x times, you really had to write for the hardware (and in macos case also had to keep in mind that broken scheduling system). But today? Nice clean apis&abis everywhere.
Really, adobe has no excuse for this. They knew before hand that L6 is a lame duck. That is why they used that strange collection of systems like a surface or an old macbook as examples when they talked about performance.

I use darktable. I am an imbecile when it comes to 'graphics' and it works well for me. Lightroom? Maybe. If Adobe ever releases a linux version. ---------- Post added 01-04-15 at 23:23 ----------
AFAIR that is not correct.
Manufacturers are free to ignore certain fields and/or abuse some others. But if I remember correctly the format in the dng is pretty much set in stone.

why not? I kept my K30 as a backup when I bought my K3. Mostly for 'it is too slippery outside, use the camera that will make you cry the least' or 'I will be surrounded by violent, drunk and or motorically impaired people, use the K30 and a cheapo lens' situations.
The difference between the K30 and the K3 in size are very small. Since the K50 is pretty much identical, I am sure you won't see much difference in size. Weight is a different matter altogether.

wrong.
35mm equivalent is nothing special. It is even small compared to the 'pro' films of the glorious days - what do you tell a 6x7 shooter? That his lenses are not meant to be on his camera?
This is just canikon PR garbage. Seriously.
no, no, no and very false. The depth of field for a 50mm on apsc or 'full frame' is completely the same.
no, no and no.

Honestly, I am sick of all these over processed pictures. And that does not stop with landscapes. It is a kind of sickness infecting all kinds of photography. Extreme sharpening, clarity, contrast, saturation. Colours straight from the nightmares of a child overdosed on bonbons... Portrait? Add lots and lots of artifical grain to make it look 'film-y'. I hate those people so much. I admit freely: most of my pictures suck. Especially the 99.5% I did not upload to flickr... I try to capture what I see (or want to see, with macro). Nothing more or less. And the only one who has to be happy is me. Very relaxing.
I just wish that all those lightroom/photoshop artists would stop calling it 'photography'. You painted a picture. You might have used a photography as a sketch/underdrawing. Does not make the end result a photography.

picture transfer protocol. It is in the camera settings. Can either be MSC or PTP. With MSC the camera acts like an usb stick.

and I don't know how to feel about it.
On a plan - 36 month. Tomorrow they will decide... with a bit of luck I'll have it on Friday... or not.
On one hand.. I so wanted this camera since it came out. On the other hand... stupid. Stupid! The K-30 is good enough...

manual focus example: IMGP2651 by VolkerAH, on Flickr
not by choice but by necessity.
Macro: put focus in the closest position and then move camera until the thing you want to shoot is in focus. Impossible (for me) to get right with focus confirmation. Easy with lifeview and peaking.

there are 'cheap' tripods which are cheap.
there are 'cheap' tripods, which aren't cheap at all, but pretty well build tripods identical to much higher priced stuff - but without the badge that makes others so freaking expensive.
You can get a very good solution for 80€ and less.

one, two, three... doesn't matter.
Using external flash on the other hand - no problem.
Using rings without contacts, no problem either.
IMHO it is the p-ttl automatic that gets thoroughly confused.

if that were true, everybody with a FF sensor camera should trash it right now and get a 645z- because of the bigger sensors.... :hmm:
