This lens doesn't auto focus with my K-01 either (live view only). It finds a focus point that seems perfect and then the camera seems to issue a focus shift command, taking it out of focus. It is very repeatable and makes the lens unusable with my K-01, I suspected that it was a firmware bug on the camera, but now I'm wondering if there is too much play in the lens's focus mechanism for the camera to get a repeatable position reading. I haven't tried it on the K-3 yet.

My guess is K-2, like the second highest mountain, analogous to the 645z being the highest and the FF being the second highest, the K-3 being third.

I was photographic Santa this year for the family: 18-55 & 50-200mm for my niece (the first used; the second the $117 Amazon deal); two plastic fantastics, one each for my sons (one I had, the other an Amazon $103 deal); finally gave my K5 and my Tammy 18-250 to my younger son ( has been using them since I got the k3); helped my son buy a (used) Nikon 18-55 and (used) 50mm f/1.8 for his girlfriend after fruitless pleading to bring her into the pentax light. Turned my sister on to the PWS $299 k50 deal to go with the lenses I bought. All in all, I spent a few hundred $ out of pocket and helped four people get their start in photography. It was fun being Santa.

I am on a mission to eradicate poorly made tripods from this earth. Life is too short to suffer a lousy tripod.
OK, maybe a little over the top, but I have purchased every lousy tripod that there is over the years, typically when I am on company business and need one in a pinch, then they come home with me to be thrown in the pile of near worthless tripods. If the head is metal and there are reinforcing links between the legs and the center, it will likely be acceptable, but most are plastic and break, or worse, flex. If they break, they can be thrown out without guilt, but if they flex and still look tripod-like, I feel the need to keep the damn things and the pile gets bigger. I've even designed and built tripods to meet our particular needs (heavy cameras, close to the ground, ultra stable and compact build). Finally I broke down and started purchasing Manfrotto tripods and heads and they are wonderful. There are other brands, but I prefer Manfrotto. The last one that I picked up was a few weeks ago as a gold box deal on Amazon, model 055xprob, I think that I paid $115. For that price, there is no excuse to start a pile of lousy tripods. Years ago, I had inexpensive Vivitar and Velbon tripods which I have since given away, made in USA and they were fine, but Manfrotto is more modern and so much better and very economical. If you can't swing $150 for a tripod and head, I'd try looking for an old Velbon/Vivitar model on eBay, but stay away from the box stores, they don't have anything that you want to own.

I love the images here and after reading the intro, I had to get a 15mm Limited to call my own. Silver to match the silver K-3. This past Saturday I was camping in the Adirondacks and found a clearing in the woods to capture the Milky Way as best I could. I left my tripod at home so just set it on my chair, used the timer to allow time for the vibrations to dampen and captured a few 25 and 30 second exposures at up to ISO 3200. I think with some work I could have dialed it in a little better (for example, I chickened out and used f6.3 wondering if f/4 would be sharp enough. Anyways, here is the result, the first image pretty well captures what the human eye can see and the second image is the same as the first but the exposure is punched up +5EV in post processing. I'm pretty pleased with the result since it is only a single image exposure.

If you need a viewfinder, there is this great accessory called the K-5, just disconnect your lens from the K-01 and mount it on the accessory K-5 body; reverse as needed.
The K-01 has much more latency than the K-5 as a general matter, not sure if live view latency is better or worse but in general there is more latency than a normal DSLR. I haven't seen the numbers on this but that is what it seems to me. However, if you can spare the $316, it is money well spent. I wish I bought the 40xs lens with mine.
