No Ricoh-Pentax stand at the largest photography exhibition in the UK this time!
Expanded stands for Hasselblad, Fuji, Sony, and even Panasonic, plus the usual mammoth stands for Nikon and Canon.
Is it the same situation in the USA, and other countries?.....Japan?
Ricoh-Pentax reducing marketing budgets?... or spending their money differently?
Cheers, Ian

Very nice result!....I'm curious about the handheld technique....there's no obvious distortion after stitching, and no 'ballooning' in the centre...that's because it's quite a w/a view? Cheers.

Here's the text in full from Steven Lee, founder of NWS, in response to my enquiries....seems constructive, and similar to the primary target market identified by Hartblei/Hcam in Germany, but they do seem to be interested in the needs of the MF market too....watch this space....
Dear Mr. Moore,
Thank you for your interest in our 23APO and Akrobat products.
Before we began defining our product specifications, we researched the market and our intended target customers extensively to make sure we can offer solutions for unmet market needs at prices that customers will pay. Then we designed each with price targets that are commensurate with performance and market expectations. We plan to release these prices once our prototypes have been fully vetted by beta- testers and our factory partners confirmed their offers based on final specifications.
One note about your choice of the Pentax 645z is that it has quite a deep body so even with the flange focal distance of the Hasselblad V-mount at 74,9mm, there is less than 5mm margin for any adapter solution. There are on-axis adapter solutions available but this limitation does not allow a 1-axis shift adapter or the Akrobat to work with it as a back – there is simply insufficient room. Given our choice of the Hasselblad V-mount, the 645z may not be a mount we can readily serve if tilt and shift are absolutely required.
The 23APO and 110APO were designed primarily to serve 24x36 FF cameras, even though their image circles cover some MF formats. We did so because there are many more FF cameras, and they are very much in need of a high resolution ultra-wide-angle with edge-to-edge sharpness. For many working professionals with Art Director clients, they have mostly relied on the more profitable FF 5Ds/5D Mk IV and D850 than any MFDB. In fact, until the GFX and the X1D came along, there were few reasons to believe that MF would ever thrive again beyond the few very well-heeled who buy IQ3 and 4s.
Since our public announcement about a month ago, we received tremendous positive feedback from the MF market and it appears there is an obvious void we can fill. You voiced similar needs – an ultra-wide-angle that fits MF 33x44 cameras. We take these comments to heart and are considering how best to meet these needs, and will announce next steps when we arrive at possible solutions including new offerings.
For major events such as new products or events, we issue press releases. We plan to release progress updates on our website as soon as we are confident and ready so please check back once in a while to get the latest news. To keep you up to date, your name is added to our mailing list.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact any one of us at info@nws-instruments.ch , or write me directly. We will do our best to answer your questions.
Thank you again.
All the best,
Steven Lee

Alternatively the Arsat 30mm fisheye is a budget option for a few hundred $, but resulting angle of view is narrower when corrected for distortion.....or even the Hassleblad 30mm fisheye via an adapter...same comment as the Arsat, but image quality is obviously better, and price is higher, probably around $1000-1500 depending on model.... ---------- Post added 01-25-19 at 10:19 AM ----------

You can occasionally find the discontinued SMC Pentax DA645 25mm AL (IF) SDM AW on Ebay, usually from Japanese dealers , but be prepared to pay an 'arm and a leg' for it! Opinions on image quality vary from 'amazing' to 'ordinary' depending on experience.....mine is excellent, although I find that a strong level of deconvolution in sharpening, results in a very crisp result. The horizontal angle of view is only a little wider than the 645 28-45mm zoom, but vertical format panos using this lens result in a very wide view, and providing you are careful with levelling and distortion correction, straight lines remain straight.
The only tilt/shift available for the 645 is the 45mm Hartblei, but image quality is 'variable' depending on the age and example you find...when you have become accustomed to the image quality available from the dedicated Pentax lenses (or even the 67 lenses with an adapter), the Hartblei is disappointing for sharpness, especially at the edges.
Good luck! Rgds, Ian

Interesting set of test results - thks - I've looked at the 35mm and 45mm, but went for the zoom plus the widest they offer ….I have both the 28-45mm and 25mm...both deliver excellent results in my experience....the 25mm gives useful additional latitude despite the relatively small reduction in f-length over the 28-45mm....the 25mm is used often for interiors, and a vertical floor to ceiling pano of our cathedral interior was possible on only 2 stitched frames.......I assume the Arsat fisheye to go for is the later MC version?
Hassy have a 21mm for the X1D mirrorless (approx. equiv. 16mm on FF 35mm?), but nothing wider yet from Pentax for the 645 tribe among us....for my 'walking around' shooting needing extra-wide coverage I use the Fuji X-T20 with the 10-24mm, which also gives surprisingly decent results, despite being 'only' 24MP and APSC....
