It's not the camera, that counts, isn't that what it's said?
12 indeed, but not exactly like a K-x... ;)

I'm on a different position...
Just traded a K-5 II for a Nikon D700 and I just love how it feels; I really missed a hefty body. Love the weight and it improves stabilization a lot.

To the OP:
If you're used to images from primes, DO NOT go for lesser glass like the 55-300; you will be very disappointed. To invest in a zoom, go to the *, or even third party...

I don't believe it's a fair comparison, the 55-300 with the 77 or the 100. I've just traded a 55-300 for a Takumar 70-210 and the later trumps the former in every way.
A better comparison would be the Tamron 70-200 (or maybe the 50-135)...

I would agree your statement about the wide(r) angles, but it's not so linear in regards to the longer focal lengths; as you surely know, compression comes in play, and with it a more controlled/thinner DOF...

Check the exposure compensation, in case you're not shooting manual.

The "Black Foamie Thingy" has completely changed my photography; I hardly use/trust available light anymore, ,unless it's a beautiful and directional window light, or if shooting outdoors...

Maybe a 24-70/2.8, or 28-75/2.8 (Tamron).
I just got myself a 35-70, and although not very fast (and not very wide) it's very sharp and already the one that comes out of the bag first (ok, my other lens is a 70-210), but still...

My 2 cents...
I'm a K-5 II user and I have to say that the focus inaccuracy/inconsistency almost drove to sell it. I didn't because I just love the color rendering of the Pentax. A few months have passed and, like you, I have gotten used to the (very) large focus point, which lead to a better and more consistent focus - I am even able to focus on eyes.
That said, for what I read, I would love, and will as soon as the budget allows, get a K-3, for the improved focus ability, mostly due to the smaller focus points.
Como esta o tempo por Lisboa? Que saudades tenho da minha Costa da Caparica... :)

I would also recommend reading Neil Van Niekerk's blog - http://neilvn.com/tangents/ - I also only recently started usin flash, and I must say that I will never turn back. Although I love the softness and beauty of a window light, the versatility of using a flash, bounced from walls allows the creation of beautiful light, and therefore beautiful and soft shadows, pretty much everywhere.
First time using bounce (from walls) in a serious job.

I've just traded a 55-300 (wasn't very happy with my copy) for a 70-210 and a 35-70. Although my version of the 70-210 is the Takumar, I have to say it's sharper wide open than the 55-300 when stopped down. If you're considering it, don't look back.

It's been my first time voting on the proposed images to the Pentax Photo Gallery, and I'm finding my percentage of 'thumbs down' a lot higher (by a large margin) than my 'thumbs up' votes.
Am I too picky? Am I wrongly understanding what the PPG should be?
I've read some comments about the standards, and how low they seem to have become, so I'm wondering about your - the ones who vote - percentage of 'yeas & nays'... ---------- Post added 05-25-15 at 02:09 PM ---------- Btw, it's not a matter of the images being portraits, or landscapes, or flowers, etc; I've voted yes in pretty much all categories...

So, what's the point on using AF-C? Why not just AF-S?

Just a heads-up, but in AFC, if one uses the focus-recompose technique, the camera will not stay with the previous focus point (say the eyes) like other brands; it will instead, follow the focus point and try to focus again where the focus point will stop (most likely the background)...

Don't forget the fact that Pentax lenses are, at least the cheaper ones - the only ones I've been able to test - are soft wide open...
