People Photographs from today's set

Two shots from today's set. I recently purchased two Paul C Buff strobes and am now looking to expand my studio.

The first is self portrait I took to organize my lighting, and the second is one of my favorites from the shoot.

Cheers,
Alex

Why is Ricoh even bothering with a FF?

I think it's a smart move for Ricoh to produce a full-frame. First it fills a hole in their lineup; this in and of itself is smart. It also allows them to compete for a (probably small subsection) niche market of people who want to enter the photography field but start with a full-frame.

Lastly, I for one am excited to have a clear upgrade path now. As it stood, I was considering moving to either the 645Z (in the distant future) or another full-frame as my next upgrade. I wager a great deal of users on this site can echo that sentiment--and if for nothing else, I think we're all happy that it finally exists.

Hey all! I read this thread regularly and this is my first time posting. Here are a few of the photos from my first roll of medium format film ever.

All with a Pentax 67, SMCM 165mm 2.8, on Kodak 400 film.

Any comments welcome.
Thanks!

Finally got to try a 645Z today!

Like the title says, I've wanted to try out a 645Z for a long time now and finally got to handle one in a Munich camera store. It's even larger than I had previously thought--with a longer lens or older lens (I used it with a fancy shmancy autofocus 50mm something or other) I bet it would be absolutely monstrous! That said it wasn't uncomfortable at all to hold and actually felt very well-balanced. I think having such a massive piece of equipment in my hands made me feel more professional in some way.

Anyways, for those of you who actually own one, would you recommend purchasing one? Upgrading to medium format might be a possibility in a few years...

Used lenses from B&H?

I didn't know that B&H even had a used section. Guess I should have been paying better attention.

A quick search just showed that they have 75 used K-mount lenses at the moment! A revelation!

Shooting RAW: Is it for me?

Another thought on the matter. I just came across this video on youtube: [URL="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AtLF-L-IeV0"] about custom print making. At about 5:00 he explains the color depth difference between jpg and RAW. I found it very informative, in case you're still undecided!

Shooting RAW: Is it for me?

I shot only jpg on my K2000 for many years, even though I always had access to PS to use for my other graphics. It was enough for me back then, and the work I was doing (basic outdoor portraits) didn't require a ton of image data. It wasn't until I started using Lightroom that I really appreciated the editing capabilities of RAW, and even though I mostly shoot RAW now, I think a lot of my photos could just be jpg.

Jpg is a way smaller format, and if you don't plan on heavily editing your photos I would say save your disk space. RAW files are ten times larger. I have't used the K30, but I imagine that it produces solid jpg files right out of the camera. If your cards are big enough, Jatrax's suggestion of shooting RAW+ is a solid one. You can choose to just delete the RAW or jpg file in camera, too.

My brother came to visit last weekend and I had a chance to take him to the studio and try our lights out.
What do you think? I like the high contrast, low key look a lot and want to keep experimenting with it.

Nature Christmas candle

My favorite image from a series I shot this Christmas. The tree this year had real candles on it! I like the effect of high ISO speed on this one, and when viewed at a high resolution (am I allowed to post a link to a higher res version here?) the texture looks very atmospheric. I also like how the edges fall away into shadow, and how the needles look like they're cradling the candle.

Comments/critique?

Shot this morning. Trying out my new 50mm f/1.4 on this Christmas decoration my girlfriend made.

Do you find the shallow depth of field pleasing, or wish that more of the subject was in focus? Other comments/suggestions?

Thanks!

My name is Alex, and I'm from Vermont but currently living in Berlin, Germany!
I've been a Pentax user since 2009 and have been using this site to compare and shop for lenses for a few months now.
No need to respond or anything, I'm just getting the mandatory one post out of the way.
