I have been using Ricoh S-SW168 digital utility 5 for editing pics for a year or more. The other day I started getting a screen with no control ribbon across the top. The ribbon would threaten to load then disappear, although the shot 'opened with' , opens no problem. Uninstalled the program and reloaded, same problem. It may not be a software glitch but a computer problem. Is anyone familiar with this? Oh yes, I had added the amended bit of software from the Ricoh site.

I have done a test and it works without a hitch. Computer based devices loop on occasion.

I did a quick test after and it seemed fine. A 'busy' warning may be what is lacking.

Yesterday I was bracketing shots when the camera 'hung', just like a computer does. To correct this I had to open the battery compartment, release and reinsert. Does anyone have a comment? I reasoned that the unit had gone into a loop and simply needed a restart, as with a PC.

When using SEL in reference to focus, what do the letters stand for? Probably a thick moment I am having but I cannot find SEL function on camera. An abbreviation perhaps??

I really wish to remain Pentax faithful, but the software is cumbersome, slow and hesitant, then shines somewhat on occasion. It may be me or my PC that is the problem but I somehow doubt it. Cropping has no instant save and the spot removal simply does not work for me. The little indicator is difficult to pin down (on spot removal) and dances all over the place. Such a pity because at a glance the software has good intentions. Not everyone wishes to go the Photoshop route.

I bought a Pentax K70 to replace my stolen K500. Both units when new showed small specs/smears on the censors. Ultimately I decided that they were in fact manufacturers oil smears, minuscule as they were. I exposed the censors on each occasion and stroked ever so gently with a previously well examined earbud on the surface of the censor that I had to ask myself whether I had touched at all. I was lucky, it worked both times.

I found rechargeable NI AA batteries quite handy. They tend to last for an extended period.

I am more than happy with my Pentax K70, does all I want and possibly a little too much more, but that is technology for you. I may have an issue with the short time in which the battery takes to deplete itself, but that may be me. The Pentax K500 had the ability to use penlight rechargeable batteries by means of an insert that slotted into the battery chamber. The same does not apply with the Pentax K70, unfortunately.

Thanks, I had forgotten about that. I may follow that route.

Yes thanks. I realize now for it to work as I want a remote is needed. Expecting the button to stop half way for me wander off and do the test is probably somewhat optimistic.

Walk in test failed. The shutter release button needs to stop at half depression when preparing for the 'walk in' shot. This does not happen.

Yes, I do. ---------- Post added 09-19-19 at 04:31 ----------
Problem solved. Thank you all. I enabled aperture ring and tested by turning focus ring. Shutter fired. Now to mount on tripod and do the 'walk into focus' test.
(I forgot to mention that mode dial selection was shutter priority.)

My camera seems to be doing all the right things except shutter release at point of focus.
The procedure I use is as follows:
• Menu c4: Select Catch in focus
• Focus method AF
• Focus mode A.F.S.
• Focus centre weighted.
• Lens 1:1.7 M type 50mm
I assume there are no mode dial restrictions.
I am missing something but what it is has got me beat.
Thank you.

Is there any way to reverse a unicolor bold shot once taken? I had the wrong setting at the wrong moment.

This may be a daft question; is there any sense in using a hair dryer as a blower to get rid of loose dust in camera innards? Is there anyone who has used the method successfully? The blow would obviously have to be low power and virtually no warmth. Thank you.
