Did this myself with another Pentax model (a K5ll or maybe a K3 I think) and also a Canon compact. I got away with it with both cameras: probably because the camera, although on, was not actually doing anything at the time.
Although not a wonder cure, removing the existing battery and replacing it with same (if known to be fully charged) or your spare (again if known to be fully charged) can cure a number of different problems (e.g. mirror flopping for one). Brushing the contacts and making sure a battery is clean is however a good idea if a camera fails to activate and the battery is known to be fully charged, I think: belt and braces!

Very disppointed to see that the Camera is not sold with a paper reference manual in the UK. For many it is not a luxury. They are also a lot easier to browse. Smart devices are all very well but you do not always have them to hand. Also what happens when you cannot get a signal?
Looks like I will have add another £10 + to purchase one from Old Timer Cameras when they become available to an already expensive camera. "Perhaps I better think it out again". ("Reviewing the Situation" – Fagin, Oliver the Musical)

An interesting question with interesting replies.
However without knowing whether responder is making his / her comment based on full frame or APS-C (or eqivalent) some of the answers could be misleading. It would be appreciated if responders would state where they are coming from. It is a common omisssion when giving opinions and it is often (too often) a very frustrating one. 35mm, 50mm, 100mm in full frame gives 52.5 mm, 75 mm, 150 mm in APS-C: quite a difference.

The "Why I won't buy the KP" Thread should stick to KP related entries only. It should give the poster's rational reason's or counter arguments only for possible / probable non purchase of a KP. Non KP related entries should be deleted by the Forum's Administrator ASAP. Itis not a "repulsive thread" (see quote from "Why I will buy a KP" thread). It has in fact raised a number of practical issues / points to ponder before purchase which some readers may not have thought of.
One "satire" thread is enough. The "Why I won't buy a K3" thread should be transferred to a forum for non photographic subjects (sorry Otis) with immediate effect.

Now why could Park Cameras not have told me that the first time. I did ask.
Still considering a possible purchase but will now definitely wait for prices to drop, hopefully some time in the next few months.

I am considering the purchase of a KP as part of the down-sizing of my photographic equipment. However as the UK box (see below) seems only to contain the small grip and as at present I am not aware of the expected arrival dates and prices of the larger hand grips, one of which I will definitely need, this idea will have to be put on hold for now. Additionally, if the prices of the alternative grips are line with some other manufacturers that I have seen in the past then then the KP, good as it promises to be, could be a definite NO! NO!

I have done even more covering the K5, K5ll, K3 and K50. Like Just 1MoreDave I have never had any trouble and, especially having worked with computer software (apps) for nearly 40 years, like Dave I hold my breath every time.
However, try not to be the first to upgrade to a brand new firmware version. Leave it for, say, a couple of weeks, unless there is a pressing need to upgrade sooner. If there are any problems they will soon get notified in the forum. Also, if the latest version has been issued some time ago, it is still sensible to ask there are any known issues for that version via the forum for your Pentax model..... just in case. Finally, do follow the instructions for your model. If you do not understand anything, especially terms, then again ask. These are the kind of queries forums are generally good at answering, especially for new members and new owners. Besides you never know how many newbies you are helping, because because they are to shy to ask what seems to be very basic questions in case they appear silly.

If weight is a serious consideration and you have access to it / them why not consider not consider a smaller (APS-C) format camera with lighter weight lenses. Or perhaps even go for broke and get a zoom compact with a circa one inch sensor. (Relative to the cost of your trip it could be a minor extra cost.) Overall it really depends on how you are going to display the myriad of pictures taken; monitor, television / smart phone / print etc.. A camera with Raw would be useful for really challenging light or if serious cropping is required but JPEG quality is getting a lot better and produces smaller files. Do not forget to take plenty of batteries and cards (smaller capacity are better in case of card failure) and, if possible something to back them up on. Remember also to cater for the weather; weatherproof is not waterproof.

Like it!
A good advert for the K70's JPEG quality as well as the camera's sensor. Incidentally, what lens did you use and was any serious cropping used? I would like it to be the 18-135 zoom at 135 (which with a K3 is my current DSLR walk round kit) with a 50% crop.

A back support if carrying certain lenses! Back this up (no pun intended) with seriously comfy footware approriate for the (forecast) weather which will maintain a steady, safe posture for the environment in which you are taking pictures. From experience light weight trainers do not mix with soggy, muddy, rough ground on a day that has correctly been forecast to be (very) rainy at time.)

School Holidays have just started here in Scotland. Naturally the Summer has just changed into Early Spring / Late Autumn / Warm Wet Winter (take your pick). The sun is still warm though but you have to look hard to see it. It gets a lot better in late August when the schools go back. Weather however does not stop the children and daddies from building sandcastles on our magnificent beaches. They are just as hardy as Canadian Campers; the children that is!

At my Photographic Society here in Strathclyde, Scotland technique dominates discussion. Lenses used generally only come up in association with the technique used to take a picture or if someone is looking for advice or if they are being sold to a fellow member. Cameras are very seldom seen other than at the Beginner's Instruction Group or if an official photograph is required or if a problem needs to be solved requring its presence. Price of gear is virtually never discussed except in the conjuction of buying or selling.

If you are enjoying your honeymoon properly you won't have much time to take pictures. I can think of better things you should be doing and thinking about when you wake up than walking away from your new wife to take photos; even amazing ones. Compromise and just take a compact with a reasonable zoom. That is all you will need to record the experience and sights. You will enjoy your honeymoon a lot more by bringing less rather than more photographic equipment.

I would suggest rather that the market for digital is maturing. 2nd hand (pre loved using adveriser speak) digital cameras are practical now. The market no longer desires or needs a new model every year. Digital cameras now have a longer useable lifespan. New models of top end Smart Phones are now beginning to compete with the low end of mirrorless (body price apart). The market slowing down is only to be expected.

We have seen pictures of the fires here in the UK. They were really frightening especially with virtually no warning for many to evacuate. It must be really tough for you and your family and presumably also your neighbours. I hope things are beginnining to stablise for you all and you are able to rebuild your lives sooner rather than later. Please keep in touch and let us know how thing s progress.
It is probably the last thing on your mind, and rightly so, but when you do get a hold of a camera, any camera, why not start a photographic project on the rebuilding progress, when time, if any permits? Do not forget the small details such as document recovery and replacements for family nick nacks, garden tools, pots and pans and so on, as well as the larger ones of the new house and and how your family (and friends) are coping.

Assuming the K1 shows that there is a market for a Pentax branded Full Frame, what do you think is the likelyhood of Ricoh introducing one for the experienced amateur in a lighter re-inforced plastic body similar in build to the K-S2 / K50 all be it with a slightly reduced spec.
Changes could include in built flash for emergency use rather than than the GPS / Astro Tracer, simpler articulating screen (like the K-S2), fewer buttons etc. (more like the K5ll / lls), bringing back the dust alert function. I would however keep the top LCD and anti-aliasing mechnism like the K-S2.
Hopefully this could reduce the body only weight to something like the K5 ll / K3. If it (the body) then was marketed at about 75% of the K1's price and teamed up with primes or the 28mm -105mm zoom you would have a fantastic relatively low cost, relatively light weight package for most photographic subjects. It would also beat similar offerings from Nikon / Canon by a mile. It could be called the K-F1. (Remember the Spotimatic F?)

Try also the K3 Screen it is also 3.2''. ACMAXX may do a suitable Hard Screen Protector. Best compare LCD Screens and surounds first just in case there are subtle design differences. Another forum member who is lucky enough to have both cameras may be able to assist you here.

If you have good record why not self-insure. Put, say, $150 - $200 aside each year in a special account to cover loss or damage. If no claim is made during your ownership of the camera then you will have a nice little sum to pay for its replacement.
