Take a look - he sums it up better than I could.
BTW - so far as I'm concerned this video was not about the particular cameras mentioned they were just examples.
I have no experience or opinion about the X-T2 one way or the other.
It's worth a look. You Tube |

OK.
Not all technologies's purpose is the same.
I think the highest order of technology is that which logically follows out of the purpose of the tool. Back in the 19th century the "shutter" was a lens cap over the lens. With the increasing speed of emulsions it became obvious that the shutter had to become automatic and predictable and it did. The same sort of thing can be said when SLRs got the auto diaphragm - it's purpose logically follows from the purpose of a camera. I don't hear photographers wishing they could go back to using a 1932 Exacta SLR for the sheer joy of experiencing the technical process of using that level of tech.
For me "process" can mean the technical or creative process. I highly value gear that technically gets out of my way and allows me to concentrate on the one thing that technology can't do - create a meaningful beautiful image. To the extent that the A9, for instance, allows the rather specialized sports-action shooter to do that it's a good tool for their purposes and if not then not.

Haven't seen many Grosbeaks around the yard this Spring so this one was a treat.
Also added a E-M10 II to the E-M10. The E-M10 will remain on the back end of the 560mm while the Mark II will be my walk around piece (better SR which I don't need on the tripod mounted 560mm).

Maybe PP it to make it a truly low key shot to give it a bit more bling?

Thanks.
Another one from the old days. Out on the water pump in the front yard.
Taken with the K20.

Speaking only for myself I took no offense at what you were getting at - the natural laws that govern who and what ultimately prevails on the planet are not artifacts of human culture and morality, but the basic underlying reality for all of us whether a virus or a Donald Trump.
At the present primitive state of human culture I would guess the virus will prevail.

It's too bad any modern digital camera user isn't equally as capable.
What I'd like is better photography not gear and I'm speaking of myself as well.
I would bet if everyone on this forum magically got an A9 tomorrow we would see little if any difference in the quality of the photography posted here.

The real question, as far as I'm concerned, is it capable of capturing "pro" images?

Speaking only for myself - yes.
As a clarification I don't think I would ever say "I took that" but I would say here's a tiny piece of the beauty of the world and I hope my image conveys at a bit of that beauty to you or, at least, words to that effect.

For me technique is just a means to the end - the final image.
If the A9 is the ultimate tool for the perfect bee shot I want then, ideally, that's what I should be using.
The end justifies the means.

My own opinion is that perhaps in five years we will see the grafting on of a film era technology (OVF) to try and control a digital sensor as being essentially a kludge job.
That the DSLR was a transitory phase, usable but not ideal for fully exploiting the potential of a digital sensor. At the heart of digital photography is RAW numeric data and not photons and the viewfinder that most fully exploits that data will, or at least, should prevail.
Please believe me when I say I'm not trying to start some endless sterile flame war. It's just my honest opinion of how I see thing at this point in camera technology and nothing more. I'm no longer young enough to know everything.

Is there still a future for DSLRs
Being a question about the future no one, with certainty, can say but speaking only for myself and for the immediate future - NO.
My only direct experience between a reflex and mirrorless cameras is my three Pentax DSLRs and Two Olys.
Ignoring any irrelevant differences between the two, such as sensor format and size for instance, the morrorless cameras are better for my purposes.
Why? - because the mirrorless cameras, in my opinion, both aesthetically and technically give me better final images than the reflex cameras and with less hassle.
Maybe in five years things will shape up that will surprise us all but for now, at least, it is clear what works better for me.
At the end of the day as consumers we all make a choice about what we hope is best for our purposes , spend our money and move on.

WYSIWYG
In a technical sense, when using a camera, I really don't care what I, subjectively think I "see" but I do care very much what the sensor does in fact objectively "see".

I find it a bit of a stretch that the mere expression of opinion necessarily denies others the ability to do the same.
