JUST to update.
I have just had the photo enlarged to 12 x 8 and it looks good, but that is just my opinion as I am just starting to understand terminology from the comments and what to look for in a digital shot.
The graininess looks fine, while the tinges of colour on the waves and in the clouds are subtle, while at that size the person and dog are slightly more blurred, but not so you could not decipher what they are.
Dslr picture talking seems easier to manipulate
than film in some respects because of the capability to edit?. Using film I would have taken a few shots of the same subject at different settings, had them processed, crossed my fingers and hoped.
I feel I'm cheating a bit. Even over exposed shots I have tried can be edited...so a not so good shot can be made to look ok.
Anyway thanks everyone again!!!!!

Thank you everyone for your help.
I am only using Picasso's for editing which has its limitations. As I am only really starting out I have a lot to learn and your comments have been very valuable.
Thankyou

Thank you for your comments.

If I was to print this would it be better on glossy or matt finish, or is there something else, or is it just your preference ?
Thanks for the help.

Thanks everyone.
I worked that out after making the changes in the menu.....
I have managed to change back to auto so its just remembering to set the dial on A when I put the lens in.
I think you are correct on the green button noise as no pictures were actually taken when I checked.
I might be back!!!!!
But for now,
Thankyou very much for the help!!!!!!!!!

Oh I think I have it. I changed the a aperture ring setting to 2 and set the lens to A and it works.
However when I press the green button this also activates the shutter? Is that correct?
Do I need to reset the menu if I go back to the newer lenses with auto focus, or shoot them in manual?

I have started using the Kr, and have managed to understand some of the controls, manual etc.
I am now looking at using my old lenses.
I have an old Tamron 85-210, and a Pentax A 28-80 both pentax K fitting I think
Having looked at a few articles I am a bit baffled how to change the settings in the menu.
Can anyone advise please that has a Kr.
Thankyou.

Happy Christmas everyone!!!!

In the film days I used to shoot a roll of film. Send it by post to Trueprint for the cheapest prints, then look at the prints and the ones that were ok for framing would have the negative sent back for blowing up.
Having tried cloud storage and storage sticks and CD's I find that photos never get looked at. I suspect this is the same for many hobby clickers'
I still want to follow a process like this with my Christmas Pentax Kr, but want to know what everyone else does?
Do you just digitally store your shots, never to be looked at again or if you print at home or have them processed on line and hard copy photos sent out to you?

Thanks
Mike

Retail Shopping at Jessops

I hope I'm in the correct section here?
Yesterday I was in Glasgow and went into the Jessops store.
I asked a sales assistant if he could answer a few questions about lenses.
'I'm with Nikon', turned his back and walked away.
Two sales assistants were chatting in one corner, so I approached and asked the first the same question,
'Sorry, can't help you, you will have to speak to him,' pointing.
While I waited a telephone was ringing off the wall. When I looked over a girl sales assistant made a face of total exasperation.
When the sales person came over and asked how he could help, I asked him about the quality difference of the 55-300 Pentax lens and the Sigma 70-300, and their size as I couldn't see any on display. Unfortunately he didn't know about quality, and had never been asked about the Pentax, but showed me the Tamron equivalent. So I asked him where this fitted in quality wise. Was it selling well compared to the others.
I was advised to bring my camera in and try it, but when I explained it was Pentax and if they could supply one with the correct fitting he shrugged, and walked over to the computer, and started looking up to see if they did in fact do the lenses I had mentioned.
The computer was running very slow, so he got no where.
Inside the shop most of the dslr's were being played with on those annoying wire restraints, yet staff members never approached anyone.
I find it appalling that a company saved from extinction by Peter Jones has staff and management that have either not been trained or just don't care.
There were opportunities to actually sell stuff but no one seemed to have the first idea how to go about it.
The tethered dslr's stop you fully handling the cameras and it would be more appropriate if they had some sort of range built into the store where you could demonstrate the advantages of cameras, by focusing and then letting the customer have a go. Explain the simplicity first and then the more complex functions if they wished to go further down that route.
It would also help if they got rid of these kids and employed some older generation people with interest in cameras to show the next generation how to handle them.
Finding a store that actually stocks Pentax is pretty difficult, but the retail outlooks don't take advantage of this.
They don't know their market. Full Stop.
Most Pentax users will be older, and it's a sales plus if you can buy a body and use existing lenses that you may have.
I have to say on this outing I don't give Jessops much chance of survival on the high street. They need to become more user friendly, and professional, and contacting any senior management to express concern is virtually impossible.

Is there anywhere that all the camera jargon and abbreviations have been listed, so that newcomers to dslr can look them up and see what some of the discussions are about? lol
I didn't realise I needed to learn a new language as well.....
Or will I just have to keep googling for explanations?
For instance I know what AF is and VF
but some of the others just baffle me...Cl ????

First DSLR

I just joined up, after buying a second hand Pentax Kr....another gerriatttterick, starting over!!!
Have to say there seems to be a shortage of used Pentax dslrs, or maybe I just wasn't looking in the right places?
It took me several months but eventually found one on the WEX site, that seemed in decent order, a Kr with original box, charger, software, battery, and original manual. It was rated 9- and for the sum of £89 and came with a 12 months warranty and no quibbles return policy.
I know nothing about dslr's so I hope I made the right choice and there are no inherent manufacturing problems with this model.
I have a pentax me super and three lenses so my first thought was Pentax so I could used them in manual mode.
I also picked up the bog standard lens kit, £44, which I read isn't brilliant but I needed an autofocus lens to get me going.
I downloaded a sky photo to the, 'check the shutter actuations' and was pleased to see it only has 2156 actuations, so the camera will be staying. it looks virtually unused with hardly any wear.
The fun stopped there when my wife took the camera from me and sent it to father Christmas!
I was surprised that there are hundreds of used cannon and Nikon cameras but not many Pentax, and the Wex site shunts them away under the heading other cameras.
Anyway I am sure I will have loads of questions to ask, but I think I have come to the right place to ask them?
