It may be worth trying again then, used copies in Japan are around 150£ so I can try and get a good one or just avoid the hassle and get the 16-85 haha. From what you have suggested I assume my copy had an AF issue and was unbelievably soft at the edges at all focal lengths.

Who knows but at the moment the 24-70 seems to be roughly twice the price! A good investment though if you're prepping for the FF...

Good to know, difficult to decide as the 16-50 used is the same price as the new 16-85. Do you think the 16-85 outclasses it?

Hey I had an 18-135 which came with the camera but i offloaded it due to the exceptionally poor IQ at the wide end I was never sure if it was just an issue of having a bad copy?

Hi Everyone,

I'm off to Japan in a few weeks to take some photos of the autumn leaves mainly with some nature and landscapes thrown in. I will be backpacking so compactness is a bit of an issue however I do not want to compromise on image quality and as such am steering clear of zooms. Currently I shoot a K5IIs with a 50mm F1.8 & the 100mm WR F2.8 which have been great however I am now seriously in need of some wide angle and telephoto and am a bit stumped what to get.

Nominees at the moment include:

15mm Ltd
21mm Ltd
20-40 Ltd
16-85 WR

I would greatly appreciate any input.

Thanks

Chris

Hi Everyone,

I just bought a used 16-50 off amazon and have noticed some strange things about the lens which I wanted to check were "normal" as I know this lens has its quirks.

1) Uneven sharpness across the frame at 16mm when set to Inf. Noticeable lack in the top left of the frame which is considerably worse than the opposite side.

2) Strange optics shift when the lens is manually moved to inf. It seems the frame actually shits as in some optical element is moving and it distorts the image and changes the frame fov by 1-2 degrees.

3) Noticeable wobble in the extending barrel worse than my 18-135.

I can still return it and probably will I just wanted to make sure I wasn't being too critical.

Thanks for your time.

Regards,

Chris

Miguel thanks for your in depth critique. I will try and implement these in the next shot, it is my back garden so I'm sure I can get another! \

Ah thanks for the demo images, mine are very similar. I agree I have absolutely fallen in love with the lens, it is always on my camera.

It's good to know you have the same issues.

Hi

I have just bought the 100mm WR Macro Pentax and decided it would be cool to take some night sky photographs. I have done this before with my old K mount 50mm and thought it would just be as simple as setting the focus on the lens to infinite. However it seems that the lens isn't actually at infinite as the stars are still slightly out of focus. I was wondering if anyone has any advice as the lens performs spectacularly except in this function.

Kind Regards,

Chris

Hi everyone,

Just thought I would say high and introduce myself. I have just dumped all my Nikon gear and switched to Pentax! So far so good I'm really appreciating how great these cameras really are. I am mainly interested in Macro and as such have just bought the brilliant 100mm WR macro. I also have the incredibly sharp 70-200 F2.8 Tamron and the 18 - 135 kit lens. I am really impressed with how solidly built these things are.

Also I have had a problem recently with the focusing plate getting dust stuck behind it.... I have taken it off and cleaned it just with a manual air blower however I still have a smudge. Has anyone had these issues?

Regards,

Chris
