Impressive stack of firewood! I always associate woodpiles with sunny winter days (don't ask me why, because I don't know), and the extra contrast from bright sunlight, along with a line of snow near the bottom of the frame (or possibly laying on top of the pile) would bring back memories for me. I agree with you that more DOF would be better, there isn't anything gained by isolating the middle of the pile when all the wood looks much the same.
