Pentax K-1 and AF light

honestly, if you're shooting in low light, unless you want some bokeh in those pictures, use an aperture setting that gives you say 1-1.5 meters hyperfocal distance and just use the flash/iso setting to set the picture.

Does creativity go down as format size goes up?

I dont understand how one might think that changing sensor size ruins creativity. If anything going from APS-C to FF gives you a different sense of depth in images that perhaps increases what you can do creatively.

Use of LCD screen

I personally love top lcds I'm happy pentax are keeping it on the new apsc camera.

It allows me to switch off my LV screen unless reviewing pictures, which imho is the only essential thing it's used for, once your camera is set up.

I hate having the LV screen on as it drains battery and produces unnecessary light to the eye when looking through the viewfinder.

tbh, the AF of pentax isn't on par with the bigger brands, at all. This is not something we can discuss. It's pretty much proven. Speed usually depends on prefocus etc, but the camera's ability to understand subject and lock on, pentaxjust isn't there. Just like the AF grid is TINY and center weighted. Whereas pretty much everyone else has one that extends pretty much the entire frame. yes I shoot the k1II and have shot pentax for years now. I use it because I love the IQ and feel of the cameras.

But were I doing sports or anything like that. I wouldn't use pentax if I had the choice of other brands.

We use the brand because we feel it gives us something unique. However AF has never been that. We've learned to live with it, yes, and adapt.

^ uhm what? first of all, you cannot compare a 77 focal length to a 85 focal length.

Furthermore, if you put a 85FF lens on an APSC, it operates as an 85FF but the APSC can only see the inner circle of the lens so it looks more like 105? however the bokeh produced etc will still be the same, just a narrower field of view. If you were to step back to get the same fov, you are technically farther away from your subject than you are if you were using a FF camera. Therefor your bokeh changes.

People ALWAYS get fov and sensorsize wrong when they crosscompare between different sensor sizes.

honestly if we were ever to compare "innovations" or whatever new releases, great things being released.

I believe canon released a 24-70 f/2 zoom. THAT is an amazing feat. I would absolutely love to shoot that. To me, it beats Sony A7mk4 whatever high megapixel iris focusing camera house any day of the week.

Amateur Photographers (UK) Predicts End for Pentax

The marketing in many european countries are nonexistent unfortunately.

When I'm out shooting jobs I get a lot of people say "Wow, a Pentax! I haven't seen one of those in ages" It's a shame really. Pentax, Ricoh, needs to invest in marketing more. Even just social media. Make their bloody Instagram more active. There are tonnes of pentax shooters worldwide. They share pictures. The problem is, not a lot of professional photographers use Pentax cameras. So getting the nicer looking pictures can be hard to find. But I definitely feel that Pentax/Ricoh aren't doing their bit on Socia Media at the least.

Social Media isn't even expensive to work with as long as you're willing to do the work yourself.

If I can be blunt. I find the image a bit busy. too many details. too sharp. Too many sharp pixels. I would probably prefer it if only some details had that leading sharpness/depth and the other perhaps bit more blurry, if it makes sense.

I'm not sure where to look in the image.

DP Review puts K-1 Mark II as second worst camera of 2018

Honestly, before Chris and whatshisname joined DPR, DPR hated Pentax. it's a shame that they followed that agenda. It's always been clear that there's some kind of hatred going on. And them going "who here loves pentax?" as honest as a politician.

TCSTV always gave honest reviews about pentax. I.R. gives honest reviews like so many others, non biased regardless of brand, just not DPR.

To full or not to full (frame) - that is the question

imho, buying the K1mkii was THE best camera purchase I have ever made. Going from K3 to K1mkii it felt like the images had so much more depth and color to them. hard to say exactly what it was. They just felt magical somehow. Unless it's the size of the camera, I would take the step up. It also means you can invest in FF lenses. That said, surprisingly a lot of APSC lenses are FF capable whether they state it or not.

Full frame vs half frame

I shoot both FF and M34rds which is considered a half frame compared to a FF due to the 2x crop factor, I suppose.

The major comparison between the two, is that the smaller sensor wastes the information/light from the image circle the larger lenses produce. Seeing as the sensor cannot see the outer parts of the image circle, it crops what could have been produced.

Picture quality: my M43rds is 20mpix and K1 crop is 15mpix there isn't any dip in quality at all, when in good light. Once light drops, it becomes a case of which sensor has the best technology.

I take a lot of pictures with the smaller sensor which nobody would be able to tell weren't taken on a FF camera.

I agree that the k1mkii has been one of the most perfect cameras for me. It also sparked my photo joy again.

Currently I'm shooting both K1mkii and Olympus OMD EM1mkii both superb cameras though very very different. Which one do I prefer? it totally depends on the situation

So with all this talk about how the DFA 50mm is amazing optically?

I owned it and sold it, because it was amazing, but at the same time. You can't see that the glass is better. I've compared it to a lot of lenses and even my friend who shoots canon and uses the L f/1.2 they do. I couldn't say that the DFA 50 at any point was worth being such a huge huge lens. I know that the 85mm will be too, but tbh for the narrower focal length and it's purposes, it makes more sense. The DFA 50 is imho way too big for what it brings.

I can't wait for the 85/1.4 it's really THE lens I've been waiting for. That said, as time goes by with Pentax being ultra slow in releasing this. All other competition is both getting cheaper and already have the lenses available. It's a shame. And even then I'm still torn if I should still stick to pentax. I have a dream that they have been hiding a mirrorless unit from us, with state of the art (sony-esque) AF performance.
