Have to agree with "texandrews", I doubt we will see anything new for the 645 system. Pentax seems to be putting all of it attention towards the K-1, which kinda of sucks for us.

I got to demo the Profoto B1 and Elinchrom ELB400 before, and have to say the ELB400 just seemed to be easier to work with, especially with how light the head was. You literally could get away with the cheapest of stands without fear of it tipping over. I mounted the Quadra head on a stroboframe for fill flash with some ND filters using a 645Z. (ND was because of the 1/125 sync). Just remember if you plan on using other Elin modifiers you'll need an adapter.
If you want a high speed sync strobe for Pentax, Priolite is the only one. And they just announced their new strobe the Priolite Ultra strobe (500ws battery powered). And its as small as a Paul Buff Einstein.

The 2.0 vs. 2.8 is only a 1 stop difference. Not that big of deal in terms of light especially with the amazing ISO noise control the 645Z has. So the only real benefit would be a shallower depth of field, and right now nailing perfect focus at f/2.8 is hard enough on the Z, cutting your DOF in half would really take some steady hands . Not to mention the cost difference of a lens with 1 stop difference in aperture would be much higher (and larger in size) then a 2.8 lens. The Contax is nice, but not because of the 2.0 aperture, its the overall rendering, and quality of bokeh, Instead of a f/2 Pentax id much rather see an improved 2.8 lens that has more blades and maybe even an apodization filter.

Pentax Japan is really the only place that services the 645Z, so im guessing the Square Trade would send it off. And B&H used to offer the Pentax Extended warrenty, but dont see it on their site, although Adorama still has it. Pentax 645Z Advantage Platinum Program RICOHPENTAXADV |

For samples, why not just go to flickr and do a search for the lens focal length and body. ( 645z 120mm, 645d 120mm, 645z 75mm, 645d 75mm, etc etc).

Only con is the annoying beep on start up, and maybe the size, wish it was larger. Otherwise easy to setup once you figure it out and works well using with my macbook pro and my iphone 6s. Perfect for setting up for shots on a 17 foot stand when theres no way to climb up to the height to line up the shot. Its easy to use, but if your using it to review your shots, choose the 3MP low quailty option in Raw+Jpeg, otherwise the transfer time is a little long. But like the Adam said, if you can, using tethered, it is much much faster and you can transfer RAW or Large Jpegs faster. (and look to ebay if you get one as they go for $30-60 there).

Id love an adjustable RAW file size, theres times where I need to shoot RAW, but dont need the gigantic file size, something like the Canon sRAW, allowing me to choose a 51MP, 36MP or 21MP RAW.
Id also love focus bracketing (like on my EM5II), and as someone stated before the EM5II Live Bulb View.

I doubt theyre coming out with LeafShutter lens anytime soon. Pentax is worrying more about their full frame camera and lenses more then the 645 buyers. Maybe in a few years if they continue with the 645 or just dump it in favor of sales of their full frame camera. :(

For me, it seems its a hot shoe issue. Im using Paul Buff Cybersync triggers, and using the Cybersync transmitter via hot shoe every 60-70 shots I get a blackish bar peaking thru. But when I use the transmitter connected via pc sync to the transmitter I have yet to see the black bar. Seems its a hot shoe issue for my Z. (at 1/90 sec via transmitter on the hotshoe I haven't had any problems).

Thanks, for the reply. I used the 64AF-1 for a month with no problem, then I turned on the fill flash and within 3 days, kaboom. (scared the crap out of me and all the children I was shooting..lol). Looks like ill be tossing it up for sale when they send me the new replacement flash. |

Seems like it must be a Z problem, I just send my 64AF-1 to get fixed, had the same problem with the secondary bulb bursting while shooting, at a children's party no less. So have you had any issues with the Z and 64AF-1 since you stopped using the secondary fill flash. (theyre sending me a replacement flash, but if its a problem id rather toss it up for sale).

You can turn it off, but it will still beep when you first turn the camera on if you have the card inserted. (but it will not run the wifi on the card). To turn it off, its the Wrench/3 in the Menu, you can see the instructions on page R34 of your manual.

Was at WPPI today and talked to the rep about the software, and no plans on iPad/Tablet support, but he said that Pentax is working with Adobe to allow tether support for Lightroom when using the 645Z. :)
(sad week for me though, they gave away 3x 645Z with 55mm lenses, and I didn't win :( Oh well maybe next time). |

Have you tried using Adobe DNG Profile Editor. You can build a color chart based on your Color Checker Passport.
Open the editor and then click on the CHART TAB, then
1. File, OPEN DNG.
2. Place the 4 circle tabs on the matching color patches.
3. Select the Color Tables you want to create.
4. Create Color Table
5. Then File, EXPORT 645Z Profile
(I like this option as it allows you to adjust the hue/sat/lightness, which means when it comes to skin tones I can adjust my profile for a less saturated red/orange for skin).

Well to make it easier for you, here is a DNG shot from that night, with everything zeroed out. (white balance in photoshop/lightroom should be set to Fluorescent - Temperature 3800 - Tint +21). You'll be able to see then exactly what they started out as straight from the camera without any adjustment at all. Amazing how well the sensor handles the shadows and highlights just with ambient lighting.
(this is copyrighted, so play around with it, but no posting or sharing the photo, thanks).
Shot at ISO 3200, f/4.5, at 1/500 sec (using the 55mm 2.8 DA lens) https://www.mediafire.com/?8va2w0jwnwknwae |

All ambient light as they don't allow flashes as it would blind the models...lol. (for runway, on average I was shooting 1/250-1/500, f/4-5.6, ISO 1600-3200). As far as AF, using AF-C, I was getting about a 9 of 10 keeping rate. Amazing worked perfect in the low light once it locked on. (of course on the all black outfits it hunted for a second before locking on).
