You've been great and I hesitate to continue taking this a bit off topic, so feel free to ignore this and I'll head over to the cactus forum... BUT, for the sake of conversation I'm curious why you think I'd need any pre-sync signal at all.
The way I read it is that on many systems the preflash is a byproduct of getting the camera to fire above a certain shutter speed... HSS being a *-TTL mode so it has to have a preflash.
Then since there's a preflash the shutter release is slightly delayed so you can't just RF trigger the RF60 right away (to burst it's HSS light). So you have to use the optical sensor to detect and ignore the preflash and wait around some number of milliseconds, then the RF60 will burst it's HSS light.
But going back to the beginning... if there is a camera that will fire it's hotshoe at any shutter speed (despite the risk of black bar with a non HSS burst), then there won't be any preflash byproduct of putting the camera in HSS mode, therefore there's no need to wait or sync up with a shutter that's waiting for the *-TTL process to finish.
In my imagination it all just behaves exactly like any other 'regular' shutter speed, except the RF60 gets put into HSS mode to produce the extended burst of light needed for the curtains to fully pass, thus avoiding the black bar creeping into frame as shutter speed goes up.
Clear as mud? I think I've probably just convinced myself it will work out of wishful thinking. On the other hand, I can't necessarily find anything wrong with my logic either, so long as a camera will fire the hotshoe at any shutter speed without creating any TTL preflash delays, etc.

Thanks, Class A. I think I understand better now.
But I have a confession to make that may help clear up my question a bit. I am a Pentaxian, but in this case I am asking for use on my Oly E-M5II. On that camera there doesn't seem to be anything stopping the hotshoe or pc port from firing at any shutter speed (though a true digital TTL modern m43 flash does limit the shutter).
So my wish is to use the V6 on camera with no other flash besides the RF60 that I'm triggering at high sync speed (presumably HSS mode on flash, not 1/1 even if it may somehow work). As such I want to use rf only, not optical. It sounds like it will work then, which is great. I'll be ordering soon. Please do correct me if I'm wrong, though.
Thanks again for your help and excellent review.

Could I get some clarification on the HSS mode and RF60? I read somewhere else that the basic reason you need to set a delay on the RF60 in HSS Sympathy Mode is to wait for the preflashes to finish. What about not using any preflash or delay?
Is the camera 'seeing' a flash and refusing higher shutter speeds unless the body is in HSS mode, thus requiring preflashes and a delay? Hypothetically, if a particular camera fired an old, dumb manual flash at any shutter speed either at the hot shoe or pc sync port, couldn't you put the RF60 in HSS mode (where you can still control it's power) with a delay of 0 and have the V6 trigger it just like at any other shutter speed? It seems like the only difference between that and any other situation would be the RF60 knowing it needs to make longer flash pulses. But it can do that. So why all the complicated workarounds? Why does the camera need to preflash?
Thanks

PentaxForums.com Marketplace Listing Item for Sale
FA 43mm Limited - Early black copy with brown leather pouch Asking Price
550 OBO USD Item Location
Dallas, Texas (United States) Item Description
This FA43 has been great for me and given years of enjoyment and beautiful photos, but it's time to pass it on. It's a beauty and will be sorely missed.
One unique feature of this particular copy is it's early production. Currently, the earliest black version listed on this site's serial number database is 0015519. All earlier were silver.
This black copy is 0014450, which makes it earlier than any other one listed in the database. That's kinda cool, I always thought.
It comes with the brown leather pouch, hood and cap. No box.
Lens and hood are still in very excellent condition. Cap has some scratches but no dents or deep scrapes. The leather pouch is also nice (I never used it) but has 43 / 1.9 written on the bottom in silver sharpie. Are you the original owner of the item being sold?

Thanks for the link to the manual! I searched a long time with no luck.
It was helpful. I was mounting in the wrong order all along.

Can somebody verify something for me? The smallest tube (12mm) seems different from the others in the way that the aperture linkage works. On mine, just that one isn't spring loaded and also seems to have trouble mating properly if I connect the lens to it and it to the others. If I put the 12mm tube first (camera side) in the stack, it works fine. It's also fine if I use it by itself.
Since manuals are impossible to find for these things, I thought I'd ask if someone might compare theirs to mine. I just want to know if this is normal. I'm thinking of getting rid of the set, but don't want to advertise it as perfect if it isn't.
Much appreciated!
Edit: It does not work fine by itself.

Micro-Tools, here I come!
Thanks for the recommendation. From memory it looked closer to 1.5mm so I think that's what I'll go with. Hopefully it will work.

Well I thought I was being careful...
But since I'm asking, obviously something went wrong.
I'd like to find a replacement ball bearing that provides the aperture clicks on my M50 1.7
To do that I need two bits of info. 1) is the size in case I were to order my own (likely in a package of 100 or some crazy amount). 2) would preferably be someone who was in my same position and might just happen to have one of their remaining 99 to spare for a reasonable price.
Any help on either front would be greatly appreciated!

With greater than 3 stops difference between 1/1250 and 1/6000 I would definitely expect more difference. That seems obvious. Curious indeed.

Looks like I'll have to try it to find out!
At the moment I have a nice roll of film in there, so I probably won't be taking too many test shots. Still, I'll snap at least a couple frames with the polarizer in place to see what happens.
I'll report back when I know how it turns out in case anyone is interested.
Thanks again,
Chris

Hi,
I'm just getting stated in film photography with an MX and my 43mm. What a combo!
I have a 46mm B+W warming polarizing filter that I'd like to use occasionally. I got an step down ring and looking through the viewfinder I don't notice any obvious vignetting, but it's already darkened by the filter so I can't be totally sure.
I don't mind a little trial and error, but I know there are a lot of experts here who might be able to clue me in.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
Chris

Does anyone know of a collection of images taken with the 43mm on film? I'm debating if I should keep it primarily for that purpose and don't feel like I have an understanding of its character at that angle of view. Thanks

How to stiffen mf focus ring on fa ltd and da ltd primes?
That says it all. Using Pentax limited lenses on another system MF only and wish for more resistance on the smooth focus rings.
Thick grease?

How about removing the 3 character minimum for the marketplace or maybe globally. Some people list 35/2, etc. Or it is helpful to search '35mm 8' to mean f2.8 or 2.8 etc. On ebay I often use the decimal point in the aperture to narrow down results since there is no character minimum. Also it would be nice if '35mm -8' removed any 2.8 if you happened to be looking for an f2 or something. Ideally '35* -8' would be the best in that case.
Just some suggestions. I know the marketplace isn't huge, but I like search flexibility.

It was really no problem to have that discussion in the ad. You input (and defense) was appreciated.
As to the second point, I actually do want to offer international shipping in the Marketplace. The extra exposure is good and can often work out better for both parties. For example, I've had items listed that weren't getting much attention from domestic buyers, yet international interest was high. I'm just trying to strike a balance between cost, benefit, risk and convenience.

Does paypal use credit card only in some countries rather than having a bank account funding option? I'm considering only accepting personal payment funded through bank account (for international) as a way around the draconian requirements paypal has in place regarding shipping methods. There has been some dispute about exactly what those requirements are, but I'd hate to get a chargeback because I didn't ship via a $75 method and paypal decided to be strict with me.
Basically I would do this:
1) State MY final price (the amount I will take home after shipping and fees)
2) Require 1% on top for cross border payment
3) Offer whatever shipping method and cost the buyer wants and is comfortable with depending on their preference and confidence in USPS and their local post. This could be a money big money-saver for the buyer depending on their comfort.
4) For $1.15 add a service called proof of mailing (available even for the cheapest shipping methods) whereby the postal employee fills out a card that certifies the package was accepted and the address it's going to. This would guard against a package never actually being mailed.
5) Inform the buyer that the package will not be marked 'gift', but will put 'used lens' and maybe even round the stated value down a bit.
Personal payment funded through bank helps for a couple reasons. First, it saves three percent. Second, without credit card companies involved the risk of chargeback is reduced (possibly to none). I believe paypal offers less buyer protection through personal payment, but if a seller establishes good feedback and supplies adequate pictures, then that can be considered by buyers. It's true that it transfers some of the risk to the buyer, but if I have the option to sell CONUS and am being asked to send to Latvia, then I don't want the risk to be my problem.
Thoughts?

I spent a long time on the phone with Paypal once over this matter and the rep gave me some different information. Over a certain amount I'm certain a signature is required, even in the US. I don't see it as an option on the USPS site for Priority International. Further, the rep made a big deal about the package needing to traceable the entire way. Maybe he was trying to scare me away from it, but I specifically asked about delivery confirmation and he said it was not sufficient.
Trust me, I'd love to sell abroad so I'm looking to help rather than deny. I just need to be certain of the stipulations.

I honestly wish it were easier to send things international and accept paypal. The problems are a few fold. Maybe you or someone else can make a suggestion.
1) Paypal charges a higher rate for international payments (minor)
2) Paypal HEAVILY sides with buyers for any disputes UNLESS I ship it a method that requires signature confirmation, fully insured and is trackable the entire way. This service is around $75 last I checked. Maybe even more for an expensive item. I wouldn't expect a dispute, but it is a risk. A dishonest buyer could say it was not received or make some other claim, and I'd be totally out of luck. Paypal does this because credit card companies have the ability to reverse their funds to paypal, and they just pass it along to me if I can't provide rock solid proof.
3) I don't like to take the risk of marking a package a gift (not that you asked). I figure once all the other fees for expensive shipping, higher paypal rate, and then import fees are paid, that international buyers won't find it so attractive anymore.
Like I said, I'm open to suggestions or if you're interested for a higher rate. I would accept Western Union, but then the risk is just transfered to the other party.
Best,
Chris
