I did fix the problem. I replaced the batteries I thought were fine. I guess they weren't. New batteries fixed the problem fine.

I had checked the batteries and they seemed fine. After exhausting every avenue in the manual, I put fresh batteries in, fixed the problem.

The program does read jpg, PSD, dng, and PEF files. The bw conversion is awesome. I do find some good uses for it. I have only used it with my 645z. I have only imported my files into it, I have not used it in a live setting.

I don't have the K1, but on the 645z you go to the Camera3, menu page. The top line reads "Live View", the fourth line reads "Grid Display", Click on "Grid Display" and two options (645z) "Grid Style" and "Grid Color". The "Grid Style" should have an "Off" option. That is the one you are looking for.
Hope this doesn't confuse the issue. Can't imagine the K1 is much different from the 645z.

If you search the forum "645 loose viewfinder" I found a post where you can download the service manual from US Camera. It seems to be fixable.

I think the 645z works great with panos. Watch the weight. I tried early on to use gear meant for smaller cameras and was frustrated. I try very hard not to go wider than the 55mm. I am more consistent that way. The pano head I finally found is from Fanotec.com. I bought the M2 Giga. It is slower to set up than I would like but it seems to be rock solid. But I have seen earth shattering, fantastic panos shot with a 5 gallon pail turned over. Where there is a will, there is a way. Good luck.

It is always interesting to sort photos by camera/lens. I am often surprised. I did a family photoshoot where I used the lens. Here is a sample.
I usually shoot portraits with a prime lens. But I thought to myself that with this family, the zoom was the one to use. Shot with the 645D and the FA645 80-160mm.

With my Pentax 645D I just run a line out to my monitor to see my camera controls and to view the just captured image. It works just fine for me. With my Pentax 645Z I have tethered with Lightroom. But quite frankly, 99 times out of 100 I run my Pentax 645z the exact same way. It is quicker and it works just fine. But then again I started with floppy drives, and pulling the card out of the camera and plugging it in to my computer hasn't been a problem for me. No, it is not tethering, but it is a great way to work in the studio.
