I shot this one while i traveled Australia with my girlfriend in a camper van for 3 month (east coast).
If you have the chance to visit natural bridge, you should. Not only is the waterfall in the cave amazing and the light shines trough the hole created by the river above, but the cave also glows at night with glowing worms (this is, if you are there before all the tourist arrive).
I processed the photo in Lightroom, with minimal editing.
For the photo i used a K30 and my lovely 12-24mm from Pentax attached with a ND-Filter to get a 30sec exposure.

One of the most iconic sunrises, for years on my bucket list - finally in my portfolio! :)
It was well worth it, waking up at 3AM and getting stung by everything imaginable ^^
Photo is a HDR made from (i believe) 5 or 7 exposures.

Thanks for the detailed reply Stevebrot (are you german, guessing from your nickname? Cause if thats the case, i could talk to you - private - in german)
As far as i understand (and some more questions ^^)
- i will need an adapter m42 to k if i want swirls
- is there any reason to buy a 44k if there is no swirl beside the cheap 50-prime? I already own the (cheap) pentax 50 1,8 but i am not quite satisfied =/
- the surgery needed is what exactly?
- what exactly is the difference between a 44x and a 44mx?
and; is it worth to go for a adapter if i (for now) only get this one lens for the nice effect (if so, what can you recommend, are there differences, i saw some saying the lens "wobbles" on some adapters?)

Good Evening =)
i recently stumbled upon the magical "swirly bokeh" effects that the helios lenses (can) produce and tried reading a few sites before buying one.
Now i am more confused cause i see so many versions and i got a few questions in my mind, i hope you can answer :)
- for the most part i see 3 versions, 44x, 44k and 44mx (all with different numbers at the end, right? I have red the numbers indicate the production date, the bigger, the newer and therefore less swirly but more sharp, with 7 the highest?)
- i can use the k one to screw it directly onto my camera (pentax k30) but not the 44x or the 44mx?
- for the 44x / 44mx i need an adapter. i have red there are adapters who can give the 44mx automatic aperture control?
So, what is the best option here?
The 44k4 sounds great, cause i just need a lens and i am fine to go and shoot.
But some guys say, its not the big swirly effect i am after and only 6 aperture blades (is this a big deal) instead of 8.
I am really confused by all this information about old lenses, so id like some advice from you guys. (and i have red all the lens guides / reviews here on pentax for those named lenses)

Thanks a lot, especially to you RAART :)
I own parallels and will probably go this way, its just well, wasted times and chances by Metz to just put a mac software up there, thats pretty sad.
and for the problems: i just reseted the flash and now it works: both as manuell (pressing the flash button) and as Slave, receiving the flash commando from my pentax. really weird.
Is this normal, like a software issue or should i think about returning it on amazon after i had the shooting, since don't "feel save" with a flash that doesn't work 100% ^^'

Currently it looks like i can't update the firmware, tried yesterday to look for the firmware, but its only available for windows, not for mac. (ironically there is a PDF that shows how to install the firmware from a mac, but you only find windows .exe for installing . . . weird.) Some guys seem to have the same problem, but didn't found any solution. I will try to use my windows partition today to install it.
Yeah on top of the cam it was set to P TTL and manuell, tried both.
I will try that, thanks a lot :)
I didn't try it on any other camera (since i only own 1, the Pentax K30, that is on the latest software i believe)

Yes, it won't flash at all manually. Neither in Manuell Mode, nor in Slave or Master Mode.
I did try to shoot off camera, (this did work weeks before, but not now)
Yes, i tried wireless flash and i tried triggering it with normal flashes from my K30, nothing worked.
I did not change the channel with the flash attached, but i went trough all 4 channels + i now tried your tip and it doesn't effect the outcome. Flash doesn't fire as slave.
I really start to think, this one is broken . . . that sucks because it worked fine for weeks (didn't do much flash) and i need one working till the next friday for a shooting >.<

Hey Guys :)
Today i discovered a problem with my flash.
(Metz 52AF-1, bought new at 9. January 2015, original via amazon (not used))
It doesn't always fire. Today at a meeting with friends i discovered the following problems:
- it would not fire manuell (there is a little button, that you can press to make it flash, but it didn't work)
- it would not fire as slave (while using my pentax as master, it doesn't fired as slave)
- it would not fire mounted on my camera
back home i checked the batteries (2000mAh, 1,2V Sanyo eneloop rechargeable Mignon) and all 8 where full (4 needed for the flash)
so i mounted the flash onto the camera and it "worked".
While in TTL-Mode, it looked like it would light up my room quite well, so i went into a long room, just to make sure it does work and the lightning was all wrong:
- sometimes all the floor was blown out white
- sometimes the flash would not fire and i had 1 to 2s on my shutter speed
- sometimes it just changed suddenly (without shooting, just in the screen) from 1/50 (normal shutter speed for my flash) and 1 to 2s (normal shutter speed for the dark room, without flash)
So what is wrong here?
The flash is barely useable in any practical sense, since i can't be sure if and when it fires . . .
I really need some help here.

So i think i found the solution.
I went into the menu via "Info" and went to AF.A (top right) and switched it to "Off". I still need to check in the manuell what i really did now, but since it is off, focusing seems to work again (following focus i mean by that) :)

Good evening :)
today i think i detected a little error with my pentax k30. i testet a lens from someone else and as we tried different stuff, he told me about AF-C and how it works on his K5II, so we testet it on my pentax, since i never really needed to use this (mostly doing portrait).
Problem was: it wouldn't work. we changed lenses, so we could eliminate the lens being the reason.
I can switch to AF-C and it does focus once, but not continuos after the first focus. on his camera it worked like a charm, so what am i doing wrong here?
I tried looking in the manuell and here in the forum but didn't find an answer for me. Sorry if i am missing something obvious =/

I bought the "Metz mecablitz 52 AF-1". Decided to go with the higher model so i can use him as "Master/Controller/Slave" and i can use it as strobe for up to 50 flashes in case i want to try this from time to time. =)

So, i finally decided to buy a Metz. Like always i think its saver to spend some more money once and don't have to regret it (red some negative stuff about YN). And since Metz is a german company and i am from germany i am fine with spending some more money. Thanks so much guys for all your help here, i really appreciate it. Have an awesome day :)

From what you read i don't see a big difference in both flashes, since both work "on the run" just different methods, is this correct?

And yeah, i meant the P-TTL (others don't work, i know that).
So, just to clear that up for me, i got 2 choices:
TTL and No TTL (for my Pentax)
What else are the differences for the flash? (i read some books while i post here and try to get structure into this new area for me)
- for example: AF280T or AF360FGZ, what do the letters stay for?
@Milewis: thats why i thought i go for the Yongnuo, since in most situations i can set it up in time (no hurry and in street i don't think i use this flash) and i learn the basics.

Hello fellow Pentaxusers :)
i am quite new to photography (6 month) and i want to learn new things about lightning, try new stuff and get some more light in some quite dark places from time to time so i think about getting a flash for my pentax k30, since i really don't like the build in flash, the lightning is always so "straight in the face", don't know how to describe it. Tried pulling the power down, but it won't help and for my 8mm Walimex it casts dark shadows from the lens onto the photo (lens to big ^^).
So, what do you guys think, i searched and found some flashes on amazon:
Yongnuo YN560-III (+ a little diffuser maybe) for example and i have red some quite positiv reviews about this one but i am not sure if i may need another pentax specific, so TTL works.
Budget would be around 100 Euro (like 130 Dollar)
I am not the best informed about what to look for in a flash, so if you could help me out, that would be amazing =)
Oh and i haven't fount my favorite subject in photography, i shoot outdoor and architecture, but i like to go more into street and portrait to catch some emotions =)
