645Z Freeze Up Requiring A Battery Pull

I have had mine freeze up 5-6 times, narrowed it down to the mirror lockup function. First one happened within the first 100 shots and regularly after. Stopped using the mirror lock up and its yet to happen again, up to about 1400 shots all up. I also believe its a firmware issue as I have had the screen just black out on me aswell, camera shutter ect fuction ok just no screen. Also on one occasion the first SD card was not recognized and the images were writen to the second card, even though both were slotted properly. Still waiting for a firware update..hint hint wink wink..

Best (current) heavy duty tripod models for a Pentax 67?

Have been using Really Right Stuff support for years now and am still on my original tripod TVC 33 and head BH55, I am amazed at the abuse this gear can take. Have recently gone to 645Z with 28-45, the BH55 supports it easily. Its not cheap but the way I see it is I wont scrimp on a support system that holds 15K worth of gear, plus at a 50MP res it needs to held very steady for optimal sharpness..

A new game changer?

Nothing will ever make me go back to 35mm. I have shot both canon 5d III and nikon D800 but have recently moved to Pentax MF and will never look back, strickly speaking in terms of image quality. Also as a professional Photoshop user in fashion advertising, editing MF files almost exclusively I can objectively say 35mm cant touch the look and quality of MF, trying to compare the two is totally unfair to each.

Given that the sensors in new Canon bodies have the same pixel size as the old 7D crop sensor I cant really hold much hope in regards to the image quality. At this point we have only heard Canon's pre release reviews, which you can be sure are very carefully handpicked and manicured to suit. Until we can see real world unbiased samples and reviews its all just speculation.

645Z and wireless flash set up for macro

I am wanting to build a flash set up for macro photography for my 645Z, I want to go wireless (or not) but am unsure as I new to pentax. I have tried with a Yongnuo Yn-622N set up meaning both Yongnuo trigger and flash heads but they only seemed to fire very randomly, perhaps 2 out of every 10 shots and sometimes not all. I know pentax have flash heads available ect but I want to make sure what I choose is compatible for the the 645Z.

Any info on successful setups would be great, TIA

645Z mirror problems

Mine has also been experiencing what I can only assume to be power issues, I have shot less than 1000 frames so far but have experienced several "freezes" and black screens which usually force me to remove the battery to remedy. I have noticed it happens more often when i mirror lock up mode. I look forward to an update in the firmware to address these issues..

I feel that my DA 28-45 should be sharper

My opinion of this lens has done a complete 180, I absolutely love it. Initially I was not sure about it but after having shot a few scenes with considering some of the input from you fine folk I feel I am using it correctly and getting better results. I may have been expecting a little too much in the way of sharpness (was expecting macro lens sharpness), its no sharper than my 15mm Ziess on my d800 but were it really shines is in the colour rendition, edge to edge consistency and almost total absence of chromatic adoration and vignetting. Its a beast of thing and a little heavy, I have had to incorporate a bar to balance the weight on my BH-55 but that has a added function of a nodal rail if need be.
Shot this at f/14 grabbing focus right on the windmill.

Oh absolutely, I guess though on the wider vista type scenes there is only so many pixels to go around making the shot sometimes appear lacking in detail. I have since taken a few close up macro type shots of some fabrics and am very happy, was even expecting to see some moire in a few of them but nope, just beautiful edge to edge detail throughout..
Here is a small section of one the shots, cant complain here..

Thanks for the taking the time, that makes perfect sense to me and it was kind of the answer I hoping for. I am new to medium format and I guess I am still working through it. I really love the colour rendition and the edge to edge consistancy of medium format so far and have zero regrets. I used the 645z for a family shoot last week and the skin tones were just beautiful, nothing like I have seen on my d800 or my previous 5D mkii, even with there flagship lenses.

Your comment about small details getting rendered sharply on a super wide angle did come to mind because I have experienced that previously on my d800 with its 36MP sensor but I thought it was a shortcoming of the lens I was using. The 28-45 being designed specifically for the 51MP sensor I guess I figured that limitation would be overcome but I guess not.

So I took delivery of my new DA645 28-45 yesterday but after giving it a run on my 645Z I was a little disappointed at the sharpness of the lens. I mean its sharp but no way is it 6K sharp... I wanted to get some opinions from you guys, am I expecting too much out of it or should I return it post hast..

Here is a link to a raw file, if anyone has the time could you please give it a look over.. I used live view at 100% to focus as well as mirror lock up and remote trigger

Very new medium format user and this would be to date my most successful shot. Took this with the 645Z and kit 55, will have the 28-45 soon so can make use of the entire sensor.

Got a message saying I had not posted in the forum yet and I might want to introduce myself, seemed appropriate so here goes it..

My name is Gary Alan, a serious amateur photographer and a Professional Photoshop user working in mostly in fashion advertising. I like to shoot landscapes exclusively theses days living in Southern Western Australia and just my bought my first Pentax body, the 645Z and 55 kit and am waiting for the 28-45 to be delivered soon (yes sitting on my hands with feet tapping the ground anxiously)

I used to shoot Canon only to switch to Nikon on the release of the D800 which I still own and love but now call myself a Pentax shooter who owns a Nikon aswell.

thanks guys
