Why is the 50mm Lens So Popular on APS-C?

I do not use the my 50mm's a lot but I do have several, a bit of LBA I guess, but when I use them I really love the result.
I use my DA 50 for sports/action shots, maybe not so common but for me it works great. The DA 50 is a good compromise between fast focus and shutter speed and not being able to reach the action far away. The 1.8 makes the autofocus work faster/more accurate than using a 2.8 since it lets more light in between the shots in burst mode. Sample shot below is taken in quite poor light condition during the annual reindeer race in Jokkmokk, Sweden, (look it up, it's just above the Arctic Circle)

Good luck with your new lens...

So what older & forgotten lenses will be revived by FF?

I just found a M 85mm F/2.0 www.pentaxforums.com/lensreviews/SMC-Pentax-M-85mm-F2-Lens.html in a local charity shop. Got it for less than 35USD (I know it was a bargin) in the same deal I also got a Tokina RMC 24mm f/2.8 and a working Pentax ME Super. I tried the lens this weekend and found it to be one of the best so far when it comes to old legacy lenses. Should be even better on a FF in terms of focal length and bokeh. All Pentax A & M legacy lenses up to 135mm that I tried has been just great, the longer lenses like the M-200mm I tried has not been up to the expectations I had.

The photo is taken by the window with the M 85mm f/2.0

My absolutely best tip for all Pentaxians is to visit the local flea market / charity sale / second hand shop and pick up some old Pentax prime lenses. First of all you make a good deed and secondly you will become a happy owner of a splendid piece of glass.

Not only are the Pentax Primes (most of them) superb in quality, feeling, and rendering, they are also great fun to use and will help to learn and understand the basics about photography.

With the help of PF you can find out all about shooting with old prime lenses as well as get a quick overview of what lenses to look for, start out e.g. with a SMC M 50mm f1:7, you will quickly find one for some few dollars, you might even get an old analogue camera in the same deal that can be used when your ready to take the step "back" to film shooting that also got its own charm.

Uploaded photo is shot with Pentax K3 and SMC Pentax-M 28mm F2.8, I have only adjusted the white balance and cropped it a bit to get a better perspective.

Get out there and get some old primes....

Have you explored the second hand option. You will most likely get both at the second hand market for the price of either one of them new. Explore the buy/sell section at the forum, any local second hand dealer or even E-Bay or similar sites. I got my K3 second hand for less than half the price of a new one, it was in perfect condition with only a couple of thousands shots taken. You will love the K3 body. If you don't want second hand stuff then I suggest to go for the glass.

The photo is shot with my newly bought K-3 (first Pentax for me). I got it just before x-mas and did not take a lot of photos before year end. Got down to the local duck pond to compare Canon 7D with the K-3 and ended up with this photo. I liked this best from all I took that day while playing around with the cameras. I should say that this is my favorire from my first week as a Pentax owner! Hope you enjoy the photo as much as liked to take it.....
The photo is basically straight from the camera and shot in jpg, I love the quality I get from the camera.
