You will have a lot of atmospheric conditions that will prevent you from getting a sharp image of something 20 miles away. Try shooting something a lot closer to test how sharp the lens is.

Fast super telephotos are definitely relevant today. I'm using the Canon RF 600 F4 now along with the 100-500 and I would say 85-90% of my shots are with the 600.
With being able to shoot at higher ISO these days I can start shooting earlier or stay out later than I could with a slower zoom.
As far as traveling I've been all over the US and to South Africa and Botswana with my 600 and 100-500 and two bodies and it has never been a issue. I have a couple different bags I use as a carry on with all my camera gear and computer. I use my Lenscoat 4Xpandable as one of my checked bags usually with my tripod and coats in it and then when I get to my destination I'll have the 600 with body mounted on it in there.

Didn’t watch that video but it’s funny they have a picture of a old EF 200-400 with RF200-800 written over the image.

Sony menus are know for being bad but I'm sure somewhere in it you can change the ISO from third to half to whole stops per click, I know that's how my Canons are.
You probably need to spend a weekend just watching Youtube videos on how to set up a mirrorless body for how you want it no matter what brand you go with. When I went from Canon DSLR to mirrorless a lot of the menus where the same but the mirrorless also had so much more customization. From setting up what you want to see in the EVF from histogram, settings, level, exposure meter to refresh rate. Then dial and button assignments, do you want double back button focus or do you want to set up triple back button or are you fine with single or just shutter button focus. It took me a good month with the R5 to get it just how I like.
I wouldn't bother trying to adapt lenses unless they are from that brands DSLR mount. If you are going to switch just unload all your Pentax gear and purchase a new brands lenses also, and remember your Pentax gear isn't worth what you think it's worth when you try to trade it in or sell it on your own. I sold off all my Pentax gear except my K50 that I still have and it took awhile. I think after 3 months of trying to sell my DA560 here I ended up selling it to B&H. I unloaded other gear to KEH when they had a buying event near me. I think my K3 and K1 were the only things I sold here.
I know I could never go back to shooting DSLR. Animal eye AF and the ability to shoot completely silent for wildlife is huge and seeing my histogram has been a big benefit.

Mega pixels is really one of the last things I look for in a camera anymore. I used to care but after shooting 50, 45, 36, 24 and 20 megapixel full frame bodies I find other things more important now. The one I grab 90% of the time now is only 24mp but it is probably the best overall camera I've ever used.

Canon, Sony and Nikon all offer many different full frame bodies to choose from, Pentax will offer one and no way they will be able to satisfy every ones needs and wants.

For me getting a in focus shot of an animal in it's nature habitat is how I get satisfaction from photography, and animal eye AF has improved that.
I travel a lot to get wildlife images and if I came back from a trip with more out of focus images I would be really disappointed. I was in Botswana last year and it was an expensive trip and I was so happy to have the best tools possible to try and get shots. I don't have weeks or months at these locations I'm there for a week or two. When I was a kid and would look at those amazing shots in National Geographic I never thought about how much time and effort was put into getting those shots. Now I'm almost positive that none of them were taken on the first day or even first week of a trip. How many out of focus shots because of manual focus did they have to get one perfect shot or wrong exposure because they had the wrong film in or just the wrong setting because something happened so fast. I appriciate all the tools available to us now.

Trying to keep track of what is what on the Sony bodies is difficult. Try using the compare feature on B&H or just go with the A1 you can't go wrong with that one.

The Fuji 50 S II and 100 S are really nice, and you can find used ones at a decent price now also.
Canon has a great 85 F1.2 and I’m sure Nikon does also, not sure about wides.

I started out with Pentax and then switched to Canon DSLR’s then switched to Canon mirrorless now for wildlife but I also repurchase my first Pentax the K50 with 18-55 lens.
I went to Canon for lens selection. Right now I’m shooting with a R5 and R3 with the RF600 F4, RF100-500 and RF70-200 F2.8. If I could find the 100-300 2.8 in stock anywhere I’d look into trading the 100-500 and 70-200 in on it and I’d be set for wildlife.
I’d like to get another 645Z I wish I would’ve kept mine but sold it to get my first R5. Looking back now I would’ve just sold my Canon DSLR’s to switch to mirrorless but I wasn’t sure how I would like the mirrorless. But if I did get another medium format it would be hard not to pick up a used Fuji and use Pentax lenses for it.

100% frame autofocus coverage and eye AF of mirrorless is great. Sony,Nikon and Canon can all deliver that and it would speed up your workflow, no more focus and recompose and having to double check focus after the shot.

I’m sure Pentax could make a good long prime but they know they don’t have the customers that will spend $6,000-$14,000 for a fast long prime.
Right now Nikon is putting out some great PF lenses for the Z mount at good prices if you don’t absolutely need F2.8 or F4.
Canon has a 100-300 2.8 that I’d like to get my hands on and Sony just released a really small 300 2.8 prime that looks great and doesn’t appear to be to much bigger than the old Pentax 300 F4.

Pentax won’t make a 300 2.8 lens. If you want longer faster lenses just get another system and don’t try messing with adapters.
Pentax was my main system years ago but I wanted longer primes for wildlife and the advice I got here back in 2017 was to look at other brands, so I switched to Canon for my wildlife and main system. And from that time until now Pentax hasn’t made a telephoto lens that I was looking for.
Long primes are not Pentax strong point and I’m sure this won’t be a popular here but it is the truth.

If you don't need autofocus you could sell both bodies and buy a Fuji medium format body and then get the adaptors for your lenses and keep your lenses.

They will sell a bunch of those 200-800's probably. People will still complain about it though for being F9 but they are the same people who will also complain that they still have to crop images at 800mm and then will complain their images are soft after cropping.

It’s really not that big of a lens, especially compared to a 600 F4, it’s just long and skinny.
I found it was pretty easy to hand hold but if you’re going to mount onto a gimbal you need to get a really long arca Swiss plate to get it to balance properly.

I used to have that lens years ago and shot with it for a couple years on a K3 and K1. I was impressed with it at first after using the Sigma 150-500 for a year but when I decided to move on and now looking back it was not a very good lens.
I do think you paid a good price for it and that it is probably worth that especially since Pentax has no other long primes. I cant believe how much they were asking for it at launch, I think it was close to $9,000 US. I got mine during a Black Friday Cyber Monday sale for $3400 and thought it was a good price then.

There are cameras made with wildlife as a intended purpose just like cameras made more for landscape or product photography. For me something like the Canon R3 is great, I need frame rate and focus tracking more than I could use something like a Fuji GFX 100S with 102 megapixels. Others need the Sony body that I think has 12 megapixels but has incredible low light performance and people who just want to hit a shutter button for a picture can use a phone camera.

If you can get the perfect shot of a osprey or kingfisher right before the enter the water with manual focus and single shot you need to play the lottery because you're the luckiest person and I will love to see that shot.

When you're trying to get that shot of a osprey or kingfisher right before they are about to enter the water high frame rate is your friend. It doesn't make you a better photographer but will give you a much better chance of getting that perfect shot.
I have a Canon R3 and always shoot 30fps in electronic shutter because wildlife moves fast, even larger slower mammals.

I say it depends. If you sell it to someplace like KEH or MPB sell it all at once. If you are going to list it on the marketplace here or ebay sell it individually.
I had good luck selling some things here but my old DA560 and 645Z I ended up selling to B&H and KEH because they only got looks and comments here.
