Best portraits zooms?

Yes, I can agree with you. I have started for many years with zoom lenses on the Nikon F system. After making a lot of pictures I realized that I shot zooms at nearly the same focal length(s) like you mentioned. So I switch to prime lenses. But finding the right prime for yourself is another story :)

The longest lens I ever had used was a Asahi-Pentax Super-Multi-Coated 135mm f/2.5 with 8 aperture blades. A wonderful character lens. Now my most used focal length(s) for portraiture works are 28mm, 50mm and 85mm. No zooms indeed.

Wow, then you must overseen a lot of pictures. :) Tommy Oshima for example has a lot of portraiture work (also fashion) at his flickr site. Donna Ferrato has make a wonderful and hard hitting series about violence in family life. Rena Effendi has a lot of great portraits at her "Pipe Dreams" series. Judah Passow can make great portraits of peoples who are kissing (I was on the way with him, so I can tell you that)

Yes, you can call it photojournalism or fashion or street photography but a least its portraiture work. A portrait is more then a "headshot" to me. Peoples in or with their surroundings, thats what a portrait meaning to me. Sorry if I have misunderstand your point of view.

Here you are a little bit on the false way. There are a lot of photographers out there who take portraits with classic wide angle or normal lenses. Any examples?

Tommy Oshima (50mm, 35mm, 28mm, 15mm)
Bruce Davidson (28mm, 35mm, 50mm)
Judah Passow (35mm, 24mm)
Daido Moriyama (28mm)
Donna Ferrato (21mm, 28mm, 35mm)
Rena Effendi (80mm on Medium Format)

These list can be continued, but I think you know what I mean.

So please, be a little bit more open minded to other photographers. I don't like peoples who act like the all-wise teacher.

How about the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 lens? I didn't have that lens but many peoples are very happy with. Here is a review by Ken Rockwell. It covers all the classic portrait lengths. If you will going longer I also recommend you the DA* 50-135.

Yes, it does. I was also very surprised.

Look at moscowStore (eBay)

Here are two examples: 8-blade Helios 44M-7 and 6-blade Helios 44M-7

I have noticed that the Helios 44M-7 has two different Aperture Blades version, a 6-blade and a 8-blade. Has anyone test both of them? I would be interested in how the "Bokeh" looks at these different versions.

It's not any easy task to maintain a IRC channel if you are an Operator. It's more like a full-time job. But yes, I can also waste hours on IRC. Bad thing :D...

Are there any news about a Pentax related IRC channel? I found some photography related rooms on Freenode but nothing about Pentaxians.

Hello Pentaxians,

I'm a male living in Germany and enjoy shooting pictures since 2003. Since some years I also develop exhibitions (as a curator) with a gallery at my hometown. My passion is black and white photography. For myself I shoot often on Street and some times Landscapes. My steady companion is the Ricoh GR Digital and the Pentax K-3. Also I have done some exhibitions of my work but this was long ago (2009 was the last one) :)

Other interests are hearing records (Vinyl) on vintage DUAL record player, reading (and writing) books about philosophy, essay, art and politics. I'm also a member of the international writer association PEN and a supporter of a organization for investigate journalism. Pictures and words are very important today so I will use and support these to make the world to a better place for all. That's my credo.

cheers from Germany

Holy trinity of lenses

Hello Pentaxian's,

my favorite "triumvirat" for outdoor is:

DA 15mm F4 Limited
DA 20-40 F2.8-4 Limited
DA 70mm F2.4 Limited

for shooting at Street I use:

DA 35mm F2.4, DA 50 F1.8 or simply my GR Digital (III).

Especially on Street I carry only one lens/camera because size and weight matters. I tend to shoot street the whole day without to chance a lens. Don't ask me why ;-)
