You are correct on all counts. I haven't changed the batteries, but they have been taken out several times. All the buttons on the camera work normally I have also tried turning it off, changing settings, and turning it back on, but it never recognizes the mode selected. It goes directly into AV mode. I can also say that manual mode allows me to adjust shutter, ISO, white balance, aperture, etc. but on any other setting, it goes into AV mode, and only allows me to set the aperture. The other main features still work correctly while in this mode though. I can still adjust white balance and ISO. Everything about the camera works as intended, but it seems to be "stuck" in AV mode unless I select manual or movie. Only on those two settings does it register any sort of change. I appreciate the questions and am very thankful for you asking them. You are doing me a huge favor by being helpful, so thank you.

I'm sorry, I should have been more detailed in my troubles. I have tried two kit lenses and a prime lens. I don't have many to experiment with as I just take photos for fun, so its hard to spend much on the hobby. I only know it's in AV mode because of the screen, yes. As I rotate the mode wheel the AV mode repeats itself until I arrive at either the movie mode or manual mode. Those two places on the dial switch over to their corresponding modes successfully, but any other mode reverts back to AV. And just to clarify, the camera is in fact in AV mode, those are the only settings i'm allowed to change. Meaning if I set the dial to shutter priority, the screen still shows AV, and I have no control over shutter speed. Thank you again! I am trying to avoid the cost of sending it in for repairs because as I said, I only shoot for fun, so thank you for any help!

Hi all, first off I am new to the forums. I have read several threads, and if I have simply missed the solution to my issue then please just point me in the right direction. I own an older white K-x that has been a work horse for me for years now but recently I have had a problem with my mode selector. Any mode I select puts the camera in AV mode, except movie and manual modes. I have watched videos online, and even successfully taken apart and cleaned the contacts on the wheel. but it has changed nothing. I have cleaned the lens contacts several times with no change, and I'm at wits end! I hope there is a solution to the issue, and any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!
