After reading several articles....Im going to make an estimated semi educated quick calculation that 10 mrem (.10mSv) per year would be the absolute maximum exposure in the worst case scenario. I based this on the industry standard maximum of Thorium oxide at 30% of a lens. In reality I have no exact data of thorium oxide content for our Pentax Takumar lenses ? Im making an assumption its at about 12% but this is nothing more than an educated guess. Even my figure would be very high as I calculated a 12 hr a day exposure at less than 12". This would be the maximum possible exposure , not what was actually absorbed internally. Like dcshooter said....many things block it. Clothing , skin , even the camera bag or metal body of the camera its self.
In reality I would estimate my possible personal exposure at less that .5 mrem per year for weekly sporadic use........I could get get more from the granite counter tops in my kitchen than from a Takumar lens !
This was the first time I stopped to look at any data. Im putting it to rest for myself as I always wondered if there was even a miniscule chance of being an issue.....Now I know. Its a Non Issue......and Im very cautious of such things.
On top of it all there are about 30 known isotopes of thorium and its not completely clear to me which one we are even talking about for sure ? I used the worst case scenario for my over the top maximum calculation........hope this helps.

Thanks ! With the realease of the FF announced I grabbed one up on Ebay for $28 bucks buy it now. Im into unusual MF lenses and this performs better than my 21-35mm Sigma which this lens looks like. Very solid.
Not going to complain a bit.

I recently won a bid for some (3) Pentax M42 original adapters on Goodwill for $46 including shipping. I didn't pay any attention to the (what I thought) rubbish lenses in the lot at all. Since it was included in the Lot I pulled it out and started looking closer at it. Its a Chinon M42 lens in Good condition. Its a 28mm f2.8 and marked "Multi Coated Chinon".
Its a classy little tapered barrel design and looks quite sharp mounted on the K-3II.
I decided that I would give it a quick test before I stuck it on the PF Marketplace for sale and get a few $$$ for it......WOW......was I ever surprised !
This lens is sharp from wide open ! Colors are great and I cant seem to take it off and leave it off.....lol. Its not stuck or anything......I just keep going back to it over and over and over.......now it may be a Permanent fixture for quite some time.
I looked up the review here and see its a Tomioka Lens.....no wonder its so good. Now I Don't plan on selling it , but my LBA is Rampant right now so who knows.......I may need an INTERVENTION Soon ! Now I'm Looking for all the other Chinon's out there.....lol....LBA at the Heights of its Disease State has struck again.

I just bought one of these RARE lenses from Ebay for $28. Shoot a lot of weird MF lenses on Pentax DSLR. It may not be perfect , but for the price its wider and completely outshines my 21-35mm Sigma !
Its best sharpness comes on the wide end stopped down to at least 6.3 -11. Happy...Happy ....Happy !

One time while driving back into the USA from a short trip across the (undisclosed) border....I had an Agent at an (undisclosed) border crossing more interested in the contents of my Ice Chest than anything else ! In the end they seized a sealed unopened package of Bacon that was actually bought in the USA and not used.
I had a gentleman come out of the secondary inspection area in a Hazmat suit and gloves to sieze it...!
No....I'm NOT Kidding.
PS.....Someone call 911....Parrallax just had a heart attack upon hearing this Unpardonable Action taken against Bacon !.

******SIGNIFICANT UPDATE*******
At 11:51 tonight I started getting GPS tracking information........Location is El Paso , TX. just off of I-10 at a Motel........Police have been notified.
The Rigid Contractors box has obviously been opened and I'm getting GPS updates every 5 minutes from my Camera bag at the least........stay tuned !

As a Nation ?....Are You Sure of that ? Because I can bring ANY Handgun into Canada per Canadian Law that has a Barrel length of 4.2 inches or more........ Revolver or Pistol.....never had a problem.
One thing that Canada and the US has in common.....We ALL.....Love our Guns !

Actually....IF firearms weren't involved all this would have most likely gone NOWHERE in spite of having a GPS location.
Trust me on this....They have much more pressing things to do than Chase down a Camera theft no matter how expensive it is.
El Paso is an extremely crime ridden city. As it was , it took over 4 hours for them to respond , and this was considered rather Low Priority !
That's exactly what I was told over the phone by an Officer.
It may be a sad state of affairs......just the way it is.

You heard it here First......Americans are notoriously Stupid when taking firearms into/across Canada.
When they aren't Declared properly they are seized and Destroyed. You do NOT get them back !
Now as far as Crossing the Canadian Border.....They are ALL Business and aren't Friendly at all and for the most part they are Jerks. They can make your life really miserable for a few hours if they want to .
Crossing into the USA....is actually a Joke !!! Between Canada , Mexico , and the USA......Its obvious the Canadians actually CARE about who come's into their country , and what they bring. They scrutinize everything , play by all the Laws and Rules , and use extreme Vetting when needed. To me its quite intimidating at times.
Crossing into the USA and Mexico.......they Just Don't Care ! Its a Complete Joke !
I say this from experience.....about 40 trips to Mexico.....10 trips to Canada.

I just couldn't help myself. After shooting medium format back in the day with a Pentax 67II and a Mamiya RZ67 Pro II......I couldn't help myself and make excuses any longer.
Tonight I went ALL IN and ordered a 645Z with the DA 25mm lens and a DFA 35mm lens .......I really, really , really......Broke the Bank !
Will be selling at least 1 of my K-1's and a couple lenses.....but Hey.... a guy only lives once !
BTW.....I bought very lightly used. The body has 1100 clicks and the 25mm lens is mint in box..... I purchased from a private sale in Japan.
I feel like I got a very good deal at $12K

********UPDATE*****
Its been a very long day....Long story short......we know for sure who did it !
My lady friend/companions Grand daughter had my stolen Phone and it was tracked directly to her current boyfriends parents home where she was staying ringing in the New Years festivities.
The police here promptly contacted the police in the city of Ruidoso and they recovered it and placed both of them under arrest and took them in for questioning.
From what I'm told after a very brief interrogation she confessed that her Ex Boyfriend and his friends were the ones who actually did the deed last night.
They are trying to locate both of them now near LasCruces NM. (I'm told that a Warrant will be issued first thing in the morning for his mothers house)
From what the Police here have told me she will be charged as an accomplice even though she was not involved directly with the theft as she provided ALL the information to her Ex boyfriend......GOOD !!
My GPS tracker in the camera bag still has not sent a signal , so don't really know whats up with that ? It did have a charged battery and it stays good for over 2 weeks......will just keep my fingers crossed and hope against all odds that the morons still cant get the box open.
That's all I know for sure right now , but I'm in constant monitoring of my GPS service tracking info on the internet hoping something shows soon.
All the people involved are in their very early 20's.......all are unemployed , Trash , Meth heads...... and scum.
I'm livid that the Police weren't able to get a warrant for his mothers house where he lives due to a lack of direct evidence , so I'm told....I'm Pissed !!!
I will update as soon as anything new develops.

I do look at it that way. But then again Im also still in the "Drooling" Stage as I look at others work. ......I still have a long ways to go.
One thing I have figured out it to never try and emulate someone else's work......I seek my own Path.
I no longer seek acceptance in the photography forums , and simply pursue my own Visions of what I am trying to create and convey.
Once in a while it all comes together in a miraculous way , and I know that I'm close ......when I take my own Breath Away !

No...I'm NOT A PRO by definition. However....I use a camera and a couple tele lenses to document insurance Fraud cases that are going nowhere. Seldom do I get a Payoff , but when I do it can be very handsome.
Example....
A 87 yr old extremely healthy and wealthy woman claimed a theft of all her Jewelry in her home that had an extensive alarm system (appx $280,000 worth of jewelry)
Police were summoned and she accused a local disabled man friend of doing it that had occasionally had dinner at her house and played cards.
I spent 37 nights.....very covertly documenting the accused mans activities coming and going from the home even though he was the accused thief , local day trips together , various outings together , lots of hugs , lots of kisses... even them having sex in an open garage late one night along with some other intimate activities that I wont go into on a quite frequent and routine basis.
Yet the whole time of the investigation by the insurance company and police.....she continued to accuse him and Hated his guts....he would never enter her home again and the friendship was Over !!! Hmmmm.....Really ?
The photographic evidence I provided eventually ended up with a confession from her when confronted. The man knew all along he had been used by her , and ALL the Jewelry was in her wealthy sisters safe on the east coast and was seized by the police there.
No Insurance Claim was paid and ultimately ended up in a conviction (Plea Bargain) for the greedy little old lady.
My Payment for this....? Lets just say it covered the 645Z and lenses I bought last night !

Nope....Galleries , Prints , and Public Events would be the Icing on the Cake for any aspiring Photographer !
What I do is much more sinister in the Dark and Evil side of life !

This is the GPS I used......It was just by accident it was even in the camera Bag or the contractors box at all , as I bought it to track something else for my Freelance Insurance Fraud work I occasionally get lucky at....... Cant say exactly What it was though......lol
STI_GL300 Real-Time GPS Tracker
I had it set for the absolute slowest update rate that was possible to preserve battery fife.
It can do real time if wanted , but that eats up the battery.
I covered it with black spray paint and a piece of Velcro to make it look like a small battery device with a Neodymium Magnet on one side....... Obviously it WORKS !
I consider myself very lucky....The Gods Just Smiled on Me Today !!

********UPDATE*********
*******BUSTED*********
I just received a phone call from a dispatcher in El Paso TX. @ 7:30 this morning ..... and was notified that my Rigid Box and contents were located and recovered at 6AM from a Motel room.
2 People were arrested when they returned from eating at a Local Dennys to the motel room ....... 1 has been held and is pendig multiple charges....The other person was released.....I was not given names.
All she could tell me about the contents recovered was Camera gear and firearms were recovered.....YES !!!!!!
I'm waiting for an officer to contact me at some point today with more specific information regarding serial numbers and pertinent information.
I didn't think they were going to recover anything at the rate things were going...... it took over 4 hours before they sent officers to the location .
Very Happy with my little GPS......Very Tired.

Exactly ! That's why I love my Bower and Sammy 14mm so much on the K-1. It really didn't matter if it was the DA or the DFA....its still a 25mm lens that's very hard to come by.
Honestly....if there was something a bit wider for the 645Z....I would have started there.

I'm sure hoping so. In my trial run of the GPS tracker....it WOULDNT work in the bathroom and WOULDNT work inside my van.
However it did work in the bag sitting inside the house of all things.....Keeping my fingers crossed.

That's what I was thinking. I DO have more than 1 K-1 , and also have a K-3ii here with me so I'm not cameraless by any means.
The two firearms is whats got me upset the most and also my brand new DFA 24-70 that was still in the box.
Little did I know that my innocent and innocuous conversation about an extra key hidden on my frame would do me in....ANGRY.

Yes.....I bought the GPS tracker along with a two year subscription for service as a device I sometimes use in the freelance Insurance fraud investigations that I do occasionally for a couple companies in AZ. It wasn't planned as a camera tracker , but is in my bag of gear to use as needed in my work....Kinda got lucky in a way that it was just charged and in the bag.

My full size Cargo Van is very secure. What they didn't know was there was $3600 in a solid steel Tube Safe welded directly through to my rear Frame as I am all packed up to go on a Photo trip tuesday.....Ignorant Morons.....lol.

Interesting night last night. Several times I heard bumping and popping noises outside......went to look and nothing......figured it was just the neighbors with all their Party company for the new Years celebration.
I just went out to my Van to get some Brass I picked up at the shooting Range yesterday for reloading .......and OMG !!! My back Door on my E-250 Van was slightly ajar and my Medium Rigid Contractors box inside that was BOLTED through the floor was GONE ! It was pried and cut from the floor and completely ...GONE !!
Inside was a K-1 and bag with 2 lenses including my new 24-70 DFA. A couple nice tripods , lighting , and camera accessories. I also had a Ruger 1911 and ammo , and a 454 Casull revolver with ammo.....All is Gone amongst other things such as a spotting scope , and Zeiss Binoculars....... THE WHOLE BOX !
The old Van is my camping and travel Van and has had what I thought was a very secure storage area. If You have ever seen a RIGID Contractors box , then You know these things aren't going to be opened easily. I had the 4 corners bolted with 1/4" bolts all the way through the floor with locknuts and security heads.
Now for the good Part.......!
I have a Real Time GPS STI Tracking device inside my camera bag ! Its disguised as a battery......NO Location hits .........Yet !
I also have an extra android phone that was taken from my Van from my console.......and guess what......I show an exact location on my phone locater App.... and the Police have been notified. (and we are getting ready to drive there now)
My hopes are that they haven't got the Box opened yet. But the phone that was taken is going to be their demise.....Police are currently on their way to the address nearly 200 miles away and are VERY Helpful........I'm Praying They are BUSTED !
I will be updating ....SOON !

Yes....I just found out everything is covered by Homeowners Insurance....EXCEPT..... the 2 firearms. The bad part is my deductible is very high....$1000. That does give me some relief.

I pay a little bit extra for my camera gear on my renters policy , and we also have an umbrella policy. Everything except the 2 handguns IS Covered. I just called them and they want me to wait a little while before initiating a claim due to the circumstances. I have ALL my Reciepts from literally everything Ive purchased in the last 15 years.....Thank God !
The deductible is high though......but it will ease a lot of the Pain if needed.
The really Rotten part is.....because we aren't married.......she pays for homeowners separately , and I had to have a Renters policy separate for my personal possessions.......... I learned this several years ago as unbelievable as it sounds.

CSA....I LIVE in my Van for 3-6+ months a year pursuing my Photography Interests/Work at locations across the USA , Mexico , and Canada.
Short of a Tow truck there is absolutely NO way for someone to steal my entire Van....I made that completely Impossible several years ago but will not go into details here.
I DO appreciate the suggestions , but it must also be realized this ISNT a regular commuter vehicle......its a BIG , Lifted , Monster , of a Camping Van that stays Packed and ready to GO at a moments notice for Work and Play !
Its my Home on Wheels......have spent over 1300+ nights in it since new in 2003.

Exactly ! Practice ....Practice....Practice.
And then when you think that you have it all down pretty good.....Practice some more !
I also recommend that anyone serious about self defense take a few really good courses from a educated and experienced Firearms instructor.
Too many feel that the purchase of a firearm for self defense is the end all solution for their security. In reality the purchase is just the very beginning of a dedicated commitment.

Two Bodies of ANY Camera is a very good idea regardless which you choose. I personally Love the KS2 and at one time had 3 of them that all got a good workout.
Now I have (2) K3ii's and (3) K-1's......one of which I shouldn't have bought as it never left the box.
There is nothing better than having 2 bodies of any model as it becomes very familiar .......like second nature when using .
I personally would go with the KS2 all the way , and ditch the K50 !
