I was in Athens in May this year. I broght the K-1 and 28-105. The focal length statistics of the keepers are shown below (rounded). I hope this can be of some help. I also brought the F 17-28mm, but didn't use it.

Shutter speeds between 1/90 sec and 1/180 sec or so results in soft images on the K-1 due to shutter slap. The same probably goes for the "II".
Ricoh's answer at the time was to introduce the electronic shutter option for the K-1.
I always use 1/60 or slower, or 1/350 or faster with my K-1 in order to ensure sharp images.

Make sure the drive mode is not set to remote or self timer (SR will be off in those modes), or that you're not in live view with electronic shutter enabled.

Did the deleted files truly get deleted? Or did they end up in a waste basket on the card so that they still take up space? Could perhaps happen if you deleted the files via the computer and not from the camera menu. Just thinking out loud...

On my way to Photokina I saw this ad for the K-30 in the inflight magazine Scanorama. It's probably created by the distributor for Scandinavia rather than Pentax and I do like the slogan becaue it sets Pentax apart. I find it better than the many false starts we've seen from Pentax USA:

Both have been corrected. Thanks for pointing it out.
The max. magnification depends on the min. focal length. I have calculated the corresponding values since they are not indicated in the Pentax spec sheet, but my calculations may not be entirely correct.

As I saw it back then Pentax was too slow to abandon the screw mount and when the K-series finally came out they didn't offer much besides the bayonet mount compared to the Spotmatics. About the same time Olympus surprised the camera world with their much more compact and attractive OM series. Pentax had to react and did so rather quickly with the even smaller ME and MX and the compact M-series lenses. Contrary to the K-series the M-series offered significant improvements such like huge viewfinders, better light meters, exchangeable focusing screens (MX only) and light weight winders.
The ME body chassis was quite successful and long lived, and formed the basis for a number of successors including the A-series, which (again a bit late) introduced Tv and Program automation.
Pentax regained momentum and was first with autofocus in an SLR camera (the ME-F), and even at that with the AF motor in the lens. While the body was compact the lens was bulky due to the need for four batteries in the lens. One could say that Pentax was too early this time; not until a few years later became compact SDM motors available which could do without the in-lens batteries. But by then Pentax had abandoned the idea (and later went the screw drive route). Canon now took off with the EOS line where the lenses had built-in AF motors (USM in Canon terminology). With this technology (which Pentax had pioneered) Canon managed to carve out a significant share of the pro market.

To add to the my post above:
I got a Spotmatic in the late sixties when I was in high school. A couple of my friends were also into photography and they had Minolta and Konica. Both these brands offered a bayonet mount and as I recall the Konica even had program automation (or perhaps was it just Tv automation). I was fine with manual exposure, though, but I envied them a bit when it came to changing lenses.
When the K-series came out I decided to forego those cameras and stay with my Spotty. The K2 was the only one of the series which I found of interest, but is was too expensive for me.
When the M-series came out, however, I switched to the ME. It was priced right, the smaller and lighter design was attractive, and it was much faster to operate in the field than my old rig.
Later I traded in my Spotty for a K1000 as a backup.

Could it be that the film holder gears have been damaged? Do you by case have a second film holder you could try?

If you get "E" (rather than"Err") then it indicates that the film isn't properly loaded.

It is the max. aperture of the lens that matters (e.g. F1.4), since the light is measured at fully open aperture.
At ISO 200 the meter's lower range (EV 3) would be 1/8 sec with an F1.4 lens.

I think that your cameras are ok.
Depending on the speed of the film and the fastest F-stop of your lens (e.g. F1.4), you may experience that 1/2 sec is outside the meter's range.
The meter's range is 3 to 18 EV.
With an ISO (ASA) 100 film, 1/4 sec and F1.4 represents 3 EV, i.e. the lower limit of the meter.
At ISO 100 the meter range is illustrated with the "A" area, whereas "B" is outside range.
