I tried, they said it was not a warranty issue and would cost me nearly $200. I have lived with it for the past 2 years, but I am reaching the end of my patience and not willing to spend a significant portion of the value of a new body to replace a 50 cent plastic part ---------- Post added 05-08-20 at 09:12 AM ----------
It is out of warranty. They said it was not a warranty covered part when it did break. I was not impressed with that answer, but what can I do? spend more than the camera is worth to try a legal remedy? I have decided now that I am abandoning the Pentax platform as soon as I can save enough money to buy a new setup. By repairing the 70, I can get more value at re-sale than I can for a 50.

Hi, does anyone know if the latch for the popup flash is the same as the one for the K-50?
The latch on my K-70 broke about 6 months after I bought it. My K-50 has the AP block issue and I would very much like to steal the latch from the 50 to replace the one on the 70 when I swap the AP block on the 50.
The 50 would continue as a back up body, so the flash would not be an issue, I would just use a hair elastic to hold it down as I do with the 70 currently.

Yes i do, and yes, they do.
This issue is not constant, but intermittant which gets really tough to isolate what is triggering the errors.

Yes, some of them I have been using for up to 3 years without issue in my K-50. When I use them in my K-70, I get errors.
One of the cards is brand new, used for the first time in my K-70 and formatted in camera before first use.
As an electronics tech, I suspect either the contact pins in camera or the card door switch is not making proper contact to indicate there is a card in the camera.
I dont believe it is the cards themselves as they worked fine in the older camera.

Has anyone else experienced any card errors?
My K-70, which I bought about a month ago, is experiencing card errors. "no card in camera" and another error message about creating folder., even though the card is in the camera.
I have tried formatting the card in-camera, format in computer as well as tried other cards as well.
All of these cards worked without issue in my K-50.
I was thinking of downgrading the firmware from 1.11 to 1.10 to see if that helps?
Maybe a factory reset?

I have a K-50 that has had the aperture block repair done. I replaced it this week with a K-70 as it has a few more features that I wanted. My K-50 is for sale and works perfectly now.

DId it fit your K-70? I bought one for my K-50, which will be up for sale with the original screen. If it fits the K-70, I will keep it.

Does it take the same screen as a K-50? I have a spare screen with the tweezers I can sell you.

I bought a pair of unknown brand replacements off of eBay 2 years ago, for about the US$20 range. I see no difference in capacity or longevity.

I haven't gone through all 50 plus pages of this thread, but I did the repair on my K-50 myself. I did the sandpaper the corners trick.
As an electronics technician, I examined the actuator and plunger and at least on mine, the plunger had a sharp edge wich I believe over time snagged the plastic lining of the channels where the plunger rides, causing a burr in the plastic surface which the plunger would have to have enough force to overcome. I believe my rounding the corners, it would prevent further damage as well as being rounded, would ride over any existing burrs much like the tips of a set of skis.
I may be wrong in my theory, but after several thousand shots since the repair, all is well.

I am considering upgrading my k50 to a k70 because of the aperture motor failure in the k30 and k50. I repaired my 50, but I dont fully trust it now.
I know the aperture motor in the K-30 was a known issue and was also used in the K-50.
Does anyone know if they re-engineered that part in the K-70 or would I be looking at the same issue down the road? If it is the same part, then I will keep my cash and shoot my K-50 until itnis completely worn out and hope for the best that the ap. motor doesnt fail again.

I had the aperture motor issue on mine this summer. I ripped it apart, filed and sanded the corners of the metal piece inside the motor and put it all back together. I have shot a few thousand frames since then without incident.

I like to shoot wildlife/nature mostly, but I am also getting into some astrophotography. I need to get a newer, sturdier tripod.
My question is, What type of head should I get? Pan or ball?
What are the pros and cons of each?
Should I look for a tripod with a removeable head, i can try both styles and see what works best for me?

I shot these this morning. The ducks are coming north, despite the snow.
I just got this camera in late January and it has been too cold to take it out for a walk until recently.
The copies on my Dropbox account have been downgraded, because I also posted them to Facebook.
PM me and I can send original resolution. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/tjz6s6pd4dv9ioc/AADZxAxXgJvCVHFNSfZbITSLa?dl=0 |

Hi all, I am kinda new to post processing. That being said, I use Picasa right now to organize my shots and have played a bit with the settings in the past. I also have a paid copy of Photoshop Elements 11 that I bought for my daughter's high school computer class. Also have Silkypix that came with my K-50.
Pro/con for each? Is one better than the others?

My daughter needed Elements for a high school class. I guess I should just learn to use it, since I paid for it. Is it worth upgrading from 11 to 13? The upgrade is as much as the cost of the original version.
