Anyone have 2 or more Q's?

I have my original black Q and then a Q7 I bought later followed by a Q10 I picked up cheap. I actually use that one the most as I utilize it as a spot meter for my 4x5 film camera.

K3 III gave me a scare

I’ve had a series of Pentax cameras all water resistant. K10D,K7,K3 and now K3III and never had any issues despite the fact that I let them get rained on. This weekend though the K3III gave me a bit of a scare (It’s all good in the end). I was taking a picture that included a nice rainbow and then the rain really picked up. No problem camera and I were wet and I was still shooting but then I couldn’t see anything on the rear screen. I couldn’t get play to work or even get the info to come up. I walked back to my vehicle and when I got inside I tried again with no luck. I started to wipe the camera off a little and that’s when I realized it wasn't the screen at all it was that there was water on the eye sensor. The screen wouldn't come on because it detected something at the eyecup.

I switched from Lightroom to ACDSee a couple years ago. I rarely need to go outside of it for any of my imagining needs. The latest version has some powerful image editing tools.

I completely agree with your initial assessment. Once I received mine I just started using it with the main thing I needed to reprogram myself with was the playback button otherwise you can go straight into using it from a K3. It’s an amazing camera what else can I say.

K3-3 Review by PC Mag Australia

As a K3III owner I have little reason to read any of these reviews. This seams to be a bit of a common feeling based on other comments. It’s not my job to sell camera gear but in my opinion the K3III is a camera that stands on its own as a fantastic photography tool. Comparing it to a mirrorless camera is pointless it is unabashedly something different.

I expect that Ricoh will keep this model in the lineup while multiple iterations of other manufacturers cameras will come and go and I am fine with that.

Based on some images I took I now am pretty sure your right about that. It looks like Type 2 is about half way between no tracking and type 1

I’m not sure he could have tried any less. Is he in a lock down due to COVID or just can’t be bothered to take a single photo? It’s not even good enough to be controversial it’s just a waste of time.

I would say it depends on the paper. I think Ilford Multigrade IV stored well would be okay but AGFA paper would likely have fogging.

K-7 Composition adjust explained

Recently someone asked me if I had used the composition adjustment to frame a scene where I took two images from the same location years apart. Because so much of getting the scene right was about camera heights and angles I did not use it. It did get me thinking about it's purpose and how it differed from just moving the tripod though and so I put together this post on my blog that explains it. I hope that someone may find it useful.

Picked up a Q10

The Q system is a lot of fun and I also picked up a Q10 on the cheap last year that I plan to use as the basis for a telecine scanner. The Q7 though is a major step up in image quality maybe look for the 01 attached to one of those.

Super pleased to find out it uses the same battery form factor as the K-3 and others. That doesn’t eliminate the possibility for a higher mAh rating but even if it doesn’t at least I can share batteries and chargers.

The Pentax DZ-1 brought to you by Ricoh. So we can all argue the correct way to pronounce Zed and that it has the Ricoh name on it and complain that it sounds like “dizzy one”

Many things about the way America operates perplex me this is another of them. Suing over a product years after it’s out of warranty? Don’t you just punish a company by not buying their product in the future if your that unhappy? Along with a strongly worded tweet. Who has time for an effort like this and to what end?

Pentax K-3 II successor on September 2020

I saved up for a replacement for my K3 which will be 7 years old this year. I don’t even think I had a film camera that long in pre digital days. However I ended up buying a 4x5 camera and a new FLM tripod so my desire for a new camera is slightly mitigated. Who am I kidding I look for new news about the K new almost every day.

Well the thread about the APS-c camera update video quickly devolved into who designed a lens argument. Sigh. Hopefully we can have separate threads so we don’t have to wade through pages of Tamron did it...no they didn’t to talk about the camera.

I’ve written a small blog post on the fix the issue if it’s a matter of the flash not registering being at the end of its travel. Sorry if it’s a little light on details I just did the repair without intending to necessarily share it.

I bought the K-7 early and dealt with the overheating sensor until it was fixed in firmware. I bought the K3 early and had a few flippy mirror incidents until fixed in firmware. So have I learned anything? No not really I will order the K-new early and hope that if there are any issues they are dealt with in firmware.

Very nice to meet another film shooter. Personally I dont bother with a meter for the Spotmatics. I often have a little digital point and shoot that I use as a light meter. Another thing to test out with this camera is the fast shutter speeds to make sure they work properly. The only way to be sure is to run a roll of film through it and make sure that the exposure is even across the entire frame.

All the best from a fellow Lower Mainland film photographer.
