I've noticed that often when I zoom in or out on my 16-50 the focus gets pulled along in the same direction. This is visible both in pictures and by watching the focus numbers through the window on the lens. Is this a known problem/are there any solutions?

Well, this sounds like a great option for someone like me who shoots mixed photos and video. I might have to jump ship on bodies at least, assuming this is at least a somewhat reasonable price.

Oh hey, my old instructions. I'm gonna be pulling my K-01 apart again since one of my kids broke the screen again and amazingly enough they're still available on eBay, so if you need any clarification let me know.
I know a friends Canon had a similar issue, it's currently in my closet with a new shutter assembly waiting for me to have time to switch it out. I've searched online for a K-01 shutter and no luck. Lots available for Canon though.

Also, apart from losing manual mode in video (which apparently you can work around, at least according to other threads on this forum) and only being able to shoot 25fps (seriously, not 24, not 30? 25?) at 1080, is there any reason I wouldn't want to use a K-5 for video? Looking at the sample footage I've found online the codec quality looks a lot better.

For pretty much any video editing/compositing/sound/color correction..... well, basically anything related to video production, the answer to "is there a free/low cost program to do x?" is always "Davinci Resolve". It's an incredible piece of software that competes not just with other free software but with software packages in the thousands of dollars.

PiDicus , what settings to you recommend for getting the most usable footage out of the K-01? And is your film up online anywhere?

It's all good, I used a dremel tool and file to make the hood from a Canon 17-50 fit. If you look at it too close its kinda janky but nobody's noticed without me pointing it out so far haha.

I mean, the K-01 has video mode on the dial, plus a dedicated video recording button, and the marketing material mentions video. I don't really think that's a fair analogy.

I feel like you're right, you lose too much going to a K-5 vs. the K-01. The loss of 30fps at full HD is killer also. Although, unless I'm doing something wrong, the K-01 doesn't have focus peaking while actually shooting video, does it?
And going to another brand, I'm sure I'd lose AF on my Pentax lenses but would I be able to keep at least aperture control, or is there an aperture ring on the adapter for DA lenses? I haven't really looked into whats available.

I currently have a K-01 and am getting more into video than stills, I like my lenses and would rather not sell everything off and try and switch brands, plus, it would be a pain since there isn't much of a market for Pentax gear where I live. I was however thinking of selling off my K-01 and kit lens and getting a better body, I know Pentax in general isn't the best for video, but my questions are:
What cameras are available with at least higher bitrate video? (IMO the K-01's main shortcoming in video)
Do any Pentax cameras encode to MJPEG instead of H264?
Which Pentax bodies actually have stabilized (not in software) video?

A while back I smashed the LCD screen on my K-01 (Well actually, American Airlines did, but anywho).
I found an LCD screen but couldn't figure out how to get the dang camera apart. Apparently Pentax hired some Chinese puzzle box designers to do the engineering on it :D
Anywho, after giving up on finding instructions anyhow I figured "Heck, it can't get any more broken" and just took it apart. I figured I'd write it up so that other people don't have to go through the trouble I did, so here it is:

Did you ever have any luck? I'm trying to replace my screen and have gotten the bottom off, from what I can tell the top panel comes off next but I haven't figured out how to get it off yet.

Most of mine were at either 18mm or 50ish APS-C. Until I fell in love with my $5 28mm lens and got a DA70. Now they're all at 28mm or 70mm. I would still use the heck out of this lens if I had it, assuming it preforms anything like the other limiteds.
