Pentax K-1 loves the FA 77mm limited

Hi all,

I'm currently using the 77mm on my K3-ii and absolutely love it! I'm considering upgrading to the K-1 and I have been wondering if the actual focal length would change due to the FF sensor compared to the APSC sensor? If so would the lens work as a wider lens on the K1? and if so what would the resulting focal length be? I currently use the lens for half body portraits and I'd like to gauge an idea of how much wider this lens would feel, i.e if I stood at the same spot, would this lens still be a half body portrait lens or would it become say 3/4th body portraits?

For a long time, I had wanted to try to shoot the milky way. So one fine night I decided to drive about a 100 kms away from my place to get to minimum light pollution sort of area and as I was driving I came across this empty field with two trees and nothing else. This was exactly the image I had in mind when I started driving. So I pulled over and as my eyes settled to the darkness, I was awestruck with the clarity of the Milkyway and the sky. This photo consists of three photos stitched together to get everything into the frame. People don't often take portrait shots of nature but for this particular photo, this is exactly the composition I had wanted :D

Hi all, I have posted this image once before for a monthly contest, sorry to post the same image again but I thought it fits in well with the theme for this weeks challenge.

So here in Melbourne, Australia there is a natural pink lake near the city. I went down one evening to take some pictures, unfortunately soon after I got there the sun went completely out of the horizon. The pictures I got so far were good, the lake looked pink and all but it wasn't outstanding. So a different idea came into my mind and I decided to add some drama to the photo by making the lake milky. I increased the aperture and chucked on a ND filter, put the camera on a tripod and let it shoot for 20 seconds. The resulting image was this, where the lake became milky, it took a few tries to get the lake to mimic the consistency of the sky especially with the fast changing light conditions, but I was most certainly happy with the image I took home that evening.

My submission for fill the frame photo contest :) I'm hoping that this is considered filling the frame, as I zoomed in to get into the picture rather than try and take the entire cityscape.

Drama Across the Lake

I got to the shoot just before sunset. By the time I found my frame and set up, the sun had already gone down but the scene only got more vibrant and dramatic. I thought I'd make use of that and create a more dramatic image. So I chucked on my ND filters, cranked up the shutter speed to 20 seconds and away I went.

Hi all and especially Zephos,

I brought this exact tube off ebay. (as Amazon doesn't work down under)

I would highly recommend staying away from it, it is poorly built. It's a shame, the image quality wasn't that bad at all, I didn't notice any flairs or such BUT everything else was crap.

Some of the drawbacks of this tube was,

1. The fittings wasn't smooth at all. None of my lenses would screw in on the first try, if I get it in by the 3rd try, I consider myself lucky.
2. Makes noises when you shake it.
3. Autofocus was horribly slow and wouldn't lock 7 out of 10 times and even when it locked on, 1/2 times it was not sharp. (In other words autofocus is unusable)
4. Broke in 2 weeks!! Initially it would let me set the aperture on my aperture ring. Now however, even thought my aperture ring is set at f8 or f11 or f20, it always shoots at wide open. This I suspect is some sort of connection problem between the lens and the camera (thanks for the extension tube) as once I remove the extension tube I can set my aperture on manual lenses too.

I'll try and write a review for it as everyone seems interested but for now,

It's a waste of money!

Hello all,

I'm Joe a photography enthusiast from Melbourne. I got into photography earlier last year through a friend of mine, who had a Pentax as well. I love taking nature landscapes, astro photos and animal photos, recently I have also been interested in photo shoots as well.

I use a second hand Pentax K-x with a couple of cheap second hand lenses. One of the things I love about Pentax Forums, is its in-depth knowledge database, which I've used over and over throughout my photography experience, whether it is for buying a second hand lens or for photography techniques. I'm glad I finally made an account.

Happy shooting everybody. Best wishes!
