He does indeed have a 10/1000 catadioptric. I have a couple pics but didn't post them as Im not interested in catadioptric lenses at the moment. The 300mm and the 80-200 I am however. Thanks to Zebooka for posting alternate names of these lenses as it allowed me to look them up on Ebay easier and figure out a fair price to be had. If these are indeed quality lenses, they still seem to be fairly reasonable on Ebay still...

Thanks Zeb! Question though - The 300mm wasn't in the Craigslist ad so how did you know the guy had it? What special powers do you posses?

Thank Gerry! Not what I was hoping to hear, but better to hear before hand!

Got another reply from the seller with some better photos. All the lenses are 'Rubinar' branded. Photos are attatched. Still nothing special?

Also says he has a 10/1000 catadioptric and a 300mm MS Rubinar F4.5. Seems like a decently fast 300mm - Any good? [photo attatched]

Where do you see the 300mm? Also what is the quality and value of KMZ lenses? The seller claims and I have read elsewhere that they were made to Zeiss standards. If so I would imagine $450 a decent buy....?

The input is much appreciated from all!

EDIT -

Thank You for the info. Ive asked the seller for better photos. That's also what I needed to know about the price.

This popped up for sale semi-locally -

Russian Night Vision and lens set

Seller says both lenses are Russian with no brand name. Any bets on the quality? Im not familiar with mirror lenses; what would that 500mm be worth?

I'm not sure what you're saying. Pentax's 'waterproof' cameras can't compare to a case rated for 150ft+ (~45m) depths.

I'm sure no one here will really no the answer, but I need to get this off my chest anyhow. I contacted Ikelite, one of the leading consumer underwater camera housing makers to see if they planned on creating a housing for the K7. This was their reply:

It is frustrating not being able to find an underwater case for these cameras! Their were a couple for the K10D, but they were discountiued and the companies didn't even bother with cases for the K20D.

So, will the K7 break Pentax out of the underdog segment and make people start taking them serious? I mean, Ikelite makes housings for Fuji, Sony, and Olympus dSLRS - Who the hell has those? Does FUJI outsell Pentax?? Good grief...

scimitar12 Helped me realize there is some damage to the lip around the battery door. It is quite symmetrical however, and almost looks like it should be there. (which is why I missed it before) I added a photo of the area to the link in the first post.

Also, I just got the film back. Camera works/meters/functioned great!

Still wanting $80 for it as that what itll take for me to break even.

PZ 28-80 - Not Impressed

Took my newly aquired Pentax 28-80 on a dive trip with me early this week. This was the first time I had gotten to use any of the auto features of the camera. Although it seemed nice (and easy) at the time, I am not impressed with most of the shots I took. Not sure if that's from the lens quality, or letting the camera decide everything for me. I noticed I lost a lot of shots to the auto focus.

Over all the shots seemed dingy, soft, and had some serious vignetting problems when wide. All of the keepers seem to be closer images (<30) and/or partial/total zoom. Seems the lens just can't handle full wide at all.

Thanks yall.

Went and picked it up. Found out some good and bad details when I got there. They good -

A couple never opened 58mm filters
The camera's manual
Small camera bag

Not expensive but a nice surprise that wasn't listed in the auction.

And the bad -

No battery or charger.

The camera is in near prefect condition. The battery door and flash work as they should. No scratches/blemishes anywhere on the camera. Very little dust on the inside.

Obviously since I don't have a battery I don't know if the camera functions as it should. I assume it does. Anyone want it (the body & manual)? Make me an offer...

If you get the camera and find it doesn't operate, Ill refund your money.

a fast enough CPU ??

Go with 4gb - No question.

The hard drive is a tricky question. No, you will not see a speed difference. However! The larger the hard drive, the more prone to failure it is. For example, If you have a lot of photos to store you may look at getting two 400/500GB drives instead of a single TB hard drive.

As for three and four, I haven't kept up with the new CPUs/video cards enough to help you out. I will say, however, that the amount of RAM a video card has is a very poor indicator of it's performance.

Walmart Won't Sell Me My Pictures

Had some family pictures taken at Sears (yeah yeah) a while back. Paid a good amount of money to get the pictures and full rights put on a CD instead of getting prints. Fast forward - I am at the Kodak self serivce kiosk making prints today, and when I go to the photo lab to get a receipt, the lady tells me she can't sell me those pictures untill I get a release because they were "obviously taken by a pro".

I can't find a release at this point and time - Can Walmart hold these pictures? There is no "proof". Yeah, they have a backdrop and look like they were taken at a studio, but who says I don't have one setup at my house? Good greif!

I know this has ben asked before, but I can't seem to find it. What's the "Auto" function do on the older, manual lenses? How does one take advantage of it?

IIRC it's something to do w/ the apeture ring, but ill be damned if I can't remember exactly how to work it.
