I have the following for sale. All prices include CONUS shipping. Will consider international shipping upon request.

Pentax K-3 ($575) - SOLD
Haven't used this too much, but I've gotten some great shots out of it. It's in excellent condition, never had any issues. It comes with original box and all accessories. Manufacture date is 2013-12-08, shutter count is 1,705. I am the original owner.

Pentax FA 31mm f/1.8 AL Limited ($750) - SOLD
I purchased this from B&H in December of 2011 (yes, assembled in Vietnam), but I just don't use it often enough to justify keeping it. Looks as good as new minus a couple of very minor scuffs on the front of the lens cap. This lens comes in the original box with all original packaging and accessories (including the soft case). A B&W MRC UV filter was protecting the front element the entire time I had it. I am the original owner.

Pentax DA 55-300mm f/4-5.8 ED ($120) - SOLD
I've used this lens a bunch and gotten some great photos out out if. This lens also comes in the original box with all original packaging and accessories (including the soft case). The front lens cap tends to be a bit fussy on account of some sand having gotten in between the plastic pieces. No big deal. It stays on just fine. A B&W MRC UV filter was protecting the front element the entire time I had it. I am the original owner.

Pentax AF-540 FGZ Flash ($240) - SOLD
There are no photos of this flash because it's literally new in the box. I got it as part of a package deal from B&H, but I already have a flash (which I don't use much anyway). This flash comes with all paperwork and accessories. As I said, literally new in the box. I am the original owner.

I recently picked both of these lenses up from this forum. They're both great sharp performers in excellent condition, but I'm not in love with the focal lengths, so I'm going to swap the pair for a 31mm Ltd.

If you have a like new 31 for trade, please PM me.

Otherwise, the price on each lens is $425 within the the CONUS (+ Paypal fees if applicable. I also accept Amazon Payments, which is fee-free). Shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, or Canada may require additional shipping charges.

Both lenses are in excellent condition with original boxes, lens caps, hoods, pouches... basically all original materials. The hood to the 70mm has a few scuffs around the outer edge, but everything else looks brand new. Please note the UV filter shown in the 70mm photo is not included.

It frustrates me that they'll release this thing but we still can't get a firmware update for better control and framerate options in K5/Kr video.

I pretty much agree with everyone here. The sensor/price combination is ridiculous. This product might be interesting if it were much cheaper or if the sensor were even slightly larger. But anyone who cares about all the photog-friendly features will be turned off by the sensor, and anyone who's willing to overlook the sensor won't be sold by all the extra features.

To me it just seems like an introductory level, P&S-sized SLR for people who want to have an interchangeable lens system for the sake of saying they have one, without actually knowing what they're doing or what the benefits of such a system are. Admittedly I'm being pretty harsh without actually seeing or using one of these, but on paper the specs are absolutely dumbfounding.

It's not all bad. The toy lenses seem like a fun novel idea, especially for a camera of this size. And truth be told, they do seem like the perfect complement to this body. But at those prices? Hoya's absolutely out of their minds.

Looking to try out a 21mm and 70mm on my new K5. I'm thinking $300-400 on the 21 based on condition and $400-450 on the 70. If you're looking to unload the pair maybe I can get a combo deal?

PM me if you're looking to get rid of either lens, or both.

Thanks. :)

I have the following for sale or trade. As a whole package it would make a great starter setup.
I would much prefer to trade. My want list is basically a handful of limiteds... in priority order: 21, 15, 70/77.

Pentax K10D ($200):
This has been my workhorse since 2007. It has a lot of mileage (Photome says 22,446 clicks), but it still looks and works like a champ. I've never had any issues with it, and it's in like new condition aside from one small scratch on the rear LCD (visible below). I still have firmware 1.03 installed with a service menu focus adjustment made to best complement my lenses. The camera comes in the original box with all original packaging and accessories. I am the original owner.

Attachment 93296
Attachment 93297

Pentax DA 18-55mm AL w/ B+W MRC UV Filter ($75):
A friend of mine gave me this lens to unload. It's in excellent condition but does not include the original packaging or the lens hood. I can probably get both upon request. The glass looks clean and the lens is fully functional. Not much else to say, it's a kit lens. The B+W filter is also like new and comes in original packaging.

Attachment 93293

Sigma 30mm f/1.4 EX DC w/ B+W MRC UV Filter ($430):
This lens has been an absolute joy to use, but I'm upgrading to the 31 ltd so the focal length is redundant. The lens is in like new condition with some minor dust specks visible inside. They don't effect image quality whatsoever. Original packaging, paperwork, and accessories are included. I am the original owner. The B+W filter is also like new and comes in original packaging. Additionally, I have a 62mm B+W MRC Circular Polarizer I can toss in for an extra $70, bringing the total for the lens and both B+W filters to an even $500.

Attachment 93291

Attachment 93292

Sigma 70-300mm APO DG Macro w/ B+W MRC UV Filter ($230):
This is the best of the Sigma 70-300mm offerings. I'm hesitant to get rid of it, but I only need one tele and I'm sticking with the Pentax 55-300mm for now. I know I will regret not having the pseudo-macro functionality but my loss can be your gain! Like new with no visible defects. Original packaging, paperwork, and accessories are included. I am the original owner. The B+W filter is also like new and comes in original packaging.

K5 $1299.00?

Hello Henry. I really appreciate your open discourse here; I think it's invaluable to the community. However I think B&H does have to shoulder some responsibility here. Firstly, the comparison with Amazon is only marginally valid. We all know prices can change in an instant these days, and simply adding something to your cart is not a price guarantee. That said, Amazon's product page never mentioned an instant rebate or a promotional period. The questionable nature of this (for me) comes from advertising a week-long $100 instant rebate on the product page and raising the pre-rebate price by $100 less than 2 days into the week.

The larger issue though is not the price increase; rather it's the customer service, for which B&H is wholly responsible. I know B&H can provide quotes which lock prices in for 4 weeks, and apparently you will also match competitors' prices. Yet between my e-mail exchange with B&H regarding the purchase (while the price was still $1299) and the Amazon/Tristate prices, I was still later told by 3 different people that the $1299 price could no longer be done. In fact 2 separate B&H employees attempted to tell me that the $1299 price never even happened.

I run a small store. We don't even do a tiny fraction of the business B&H does, I'm sure. But I know that if a product incurred a price increase while one of our associates was essentially mid-conversation with a customer regarding purchase of said item, there's no way we would suddenly refuse that customer the original price. Beyond that, for all the speculation about Pentax nudging Amazon and B&H to raise their advertised prices, both retailers are still well within their rights to privately offer a customer an unadvertised discount on any product for any reason.

I'm sure I will make purchases from B&H in the future. All my previous experiences with B&H have been great ones. In fact, I currently have a 31mm Ltd I'm testing for focus problems which I will be able to return or exchange if necessary because of B&H's emphasis on customer satisfaction. It's just that in this particular instance, the entire experience was extremely disappointing.

K5 $1299.00?

+1 here. I even spoken with numerous people at B&H (Lewis, Dov, and one of your sales managers) who said there was nothing they could do for me regarding the price. I wanted to purchase the K5 and Epson r1900 printer, but the $100 price jump really frustrated me. And now that the r1900 is out of stock again I have no incentive to buy from B&H for $100 more than Amazon or Tristate Camera.

Coincidentally I also need to pick up an Apple TV, an Avid mbox3, and a few other things in the coming weeks which i would have been happy to purchase all at once. But this experience has left a sour taste in my mouth. To clearly state "$100 Instant Savings - Offer ends 04/02/2011" but raise the price $100 during the promotion period is disappointing behavior from such a respected retailer.

Drives me crazy... I spoke to 3 different people at B&H (including a sales manager) who told me there was nothing they could do about the price. Of course even if I could get someone to PM Amazon, the r1900 is out of stock again.

This was my frustration as well. I assumed the "Offer Ends 04/02/2011" meant the price was stable through that date. Silly assumption I guess. Still, more maddening is the conflicting stories I've gotten. 2 people told me the $1299 price never even happened. And when I tried replying directly in the e-mail thread where the $1299 price had been quoted I was told "Our new stock came with a higher price and therefore, needed to rise the price. The rebate is still the same from the vendor.
that is why, we would unfortunately not be able to give the lower price." Really? I suppose there's no better way to voice my disapproval than to buy it elsewhere.

I'm probably just going to buy elsewhere, but I think more people should let B&H know if they're disappointed. The presentation of their price information is very misleading. There's basically this entire block of text crammed together...
"Add to cart for lower price why? Instant Savings -$100.00 Offer ends 04/02/2011," which makes it seem like the $100 Savings AND the lower price are valid through 4/2. Raising the price $100 2 days after the instant rebate started seems pretty disingenuous.

So frustrated with B&H. I e-mailed them about purchasing a K5 and R1900 together. The rep told me to go ahead and order both, they'd ship the printer when available and I would still be eligible for the rebate. But the R1900 was unavailable for order online, so I planned to call and order by phone when I got a chance today. Around 2PM I got e-mail notification that the R1900 was in stock again; I went to check out and the K5 had gone up $100. I've tried chatting with customer service a couple times, and they keep telling me the $1299 price never happened. Grrr....

Thanks for the feedback all. I shot a brief video on an iphone to demonstrate how audible the lens is. I know this is not real-world usage for the focus ring, but it seemed like the best way to demonstrate what I'm hearing.

Question about 31mm Ltd Focus Ring

Hey all. I just picked up a 31 limited from B&H and I'm a bit surprised by the sound and feel of the focus ring. I used to have a 77, and I don't recall it behaving similarly.

It feels a bit gritty and it sounds louder than I'm accustomed to... it's definitely more audible than either my FA 50 or FA 35. If I rack from min. to inifinity quickly, it sounds kind of like a zipper, just a bit quieter. Is this normal for the 31 limited? Should the ring be quieter? Feel smoother?

I haven't really had a chance to put it through its proper paces yet, but from some limited indoor shooting the quality is everything I expected it to be. I'm just wondering if mine has any construction issues or if the focus ring sound/feel are normal.

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

K-5 AF trouble catch-all

I just want to add my voice to the chorus of people saying this may be the straw that broke the camel's back for my relationship with Pentax. I've been clinging lovingly to my K10D watching Pentax put its best foot forward against the other guys for a few years now. In the K5 I thought they finally had a camera which in many ways outclassed everything else in its price range. I'd really love more control and better options for video, but I'm willing to forgo those for the K5's incredible dynamic range and high-iso performance with regard to noise. But the sensor stain issue and the front-focus problem in low light are both embarrassing and unacceptable.

I've actually held off on purchasing a number of prime lenses on the chance that I might decide to jump ship if Pentax couldn't live up to the competition, and now it looks like that may happen. The Canon 60D has an inferior sensor, but it can be had for less than 2/3 the price, is a better camera for video, and most importantly it works properly regardless of light conditions. Plus, I don't have to worry about potentially sending one back for stains on the sensor.

If this gets resolved relatively soon, I'll be buying a K5 and a small handful of new lenses. If it doesn't I will most likely be jumping over to Canon, not because it's popular or chic... but because I know I can rely on it. The impact of quality control and consistency on consumer psyche really cannot be overstated.

Since you seem to have played some with the video, can you point out the video improvements with regard to control? Can you set shutter speed manually? Will shutter speed at least display while you're in video mode so you can lock exposure when the shutter speed's at 1/25 if setting it manually is not an option? Thanks.

I'd probably miss being able to change the metering easily, but the AF isn't a big deal for me. I mostly use center-recompose, so no need to change & no need to verify selected AF point.

I think a set of lithiums would serve me fine. I've gotten much more selective over what I even attempt to photo, especially when I'm traveling. Considering my K10D shutter count is just under 20,000 after nearly 4 years, one set of lithiums should last me ~4 months on a k-x. Of course, that doesn't take video usage into account.

Thanks again for all the replies. This community is so helpful.
