No, I don't think that's a joke. A printed image hanging on a wall might be the beginning of something else.
If you're printing in a dark room the act of printing in a dark room is the end of the creation chain.
If you're editing on a computer, editing on a computer would in fact be the end of the image creation chain.
(Or I guess you could say having the file actually printed could be the end of the chain but I would see that as an automated process, carried out after the image is edited to the satisfaction of the artist)

Buying a 645 (maybe)

Thanks all, I've decided to buy it. Lots of nice glass comes with it, a whole kit.
I think I'll look for a 645n body. I prefer knobs to buttons any day

Had a look at it, nothing really happens at all without film loaded. No shutter except when I took the back off it seemed to fire at 1000. I'm not sure why. No meter, menu buttons didn't do what they should do.
I'm not sure if the meter should work without film.

I have an opportunity to buy a 645 with 5 lenses today. I've heard there's no easy way to check that everything's working properly without actually using it. Could this be true? I'm new to medium format but well versed in checking all functions in an SLR...

Got that right. Going back to film was a revelation for me, my K3ii is collecting dust. My photography is just better when I have to think about not wasting film. And yes, the process is half of the joy.

Ha! I've been wondering about this, thanks for the test. I have an SMC Tak 135 2.5 first version that I couldn't be happier with. I've heard version 2 and the K are much better but now I see there's really no difference to speak of...

Pentax MX, 2 KX's, K2, K2dmd, SP F, SP.
Nikon F3, FE, FE2
Minolta Srt 202, XE7, 2 XD 11's.
All are in use, I started buying various body's to see which ones worked best for me. I've sold a Nikon F, F2 and FM, Olympus OM2n. The only one I'd sell right now is the Minolta XE7.
All were virtually free taking into account the value of the glass that came with them. Amazing!
I'll eventually pare the collection down to 6. I'm just not sure which 6 I want the most yet.
I now have no interest whatsoever in digital photography.

Ricoh XR7 film rewind knob; replacement options?
Posted By conniption

I've replaced a Pentax knob with a Nikon one, same size threads. Camera stores that sell used equipment sometimes have some lying around. I'm not sure what size shaft Ricoh used but it's likely the same size as Pentax and Nikon.
Minolta and Olympus are a different size as far as I remember. No need for glue, it likely won't hold for long

Yes, Vuescan absolutely. I have a lowly Canon 8800f and I get really good results. I think I paid $25 for it, Vuescan turns it into a thing that actually works

As I get better (I hope), gear becomes less and less important. Too much distracts from what really matters.
The same can be said for other art forms. When I was a practicing musician I noticed the guys with all the best and latest instruments, 10 or 20 guitars hanging on their walls we're the least creative. I noticed the same effect in art college.

I've looked at a lot of KX's, this is the first split screen I've seen
